Top 10 Disney World Rides for Teenagers

What are the very best rides for teenagers at Walt Disney World? Although the Disney parks are perhaps best known for their appeal to younger children and adults this does not mean that if you have teenagers in your group they are going to feel left out. A Disney World vacation truly is for everyone, including the teens.

Here is my list of Top 10 Disney World rides for teenagers.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

What better than a mix of rock music and a high speed roller coaster? The teens are likely to want to ride this major Disney Hollywood Studios attraction more than once. This Aerosmith inspired roller coaster ride accelerates from 0-57 mph in just 2.8 seconds cataputing riders 200 feet! This is an intense roller coaster particularly by Disney World standards – riders experience G Force of up to 4.5.

Read more in this Disney Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster guide.

Disney Hollywood Tower of Terror

The Hollywood Tower of Terror is another attraction in Disney’s Hollywood Studios which is sure to keep the teenagers happy. Riders plunge 13 stories in this 199 feet tall very imposing attraction. The ride sequence is random so you never quite know which ride you will experience. The theming on this ride is excellent. The teenagers may not ever have seen the Twilight Zone television series but they will appreciate the general spookiness of the place, right down to the excellent bell hops who control the elevator.

If you want to know more go to Disney’s Tower of Terror Guide.

Star Tours The Adventure Continues

You don’t have to be a Star Wars fan to appreciate this amazing motion simulator ride (but it helps). Star Tours has just undergone a major redesign and it is now one of the very best rides in the Disney parks. This is another attraction in Disney Hollywood Studios which the teenagers will really enjoy. There are now 54 possible variations so you never know which sequence you are going to get. If you are familiar with the Star Wars movies you will recognize the classic pod race scenes on Naboo, enjoy the snowy lands of Hoth and of course love to battle it out on the Death Star.

Mission Space

This is the ultimate thrill ride for teens at Disney’s Epcot. Tell them that it was the first ride to supply vomit bags for guests and you are sure to get their attention. This is an extreme ride. Heed the warnings and if you are not ready for this ride then you can select the Green line which is the none spinning version.

Nasa astronauts say that Mission Space gives riders a good idea what it feels like to be launched into space. I guess you can’t beat that endorsement! As with all Disney rides this one has a story. Guests board a 4 person vehicle to be launched on a mission to Mars. You experience up to 2.5 G Force on the Orange ride so even the most reluctant teenager can’t fail to be impressed by this intense Disney ride.

Test Track

This one is a highly unique ride which really doesn’t have any comparison with any other theme park ride. The whole idea is that this is a test facility for new vehicles. Guest board a 6 person vehicle. Riders will experience a series of tests including handling, breaking, and a hot and cold test. The final test is the high speed test where you will reach speeds of 65 mph on an outside steeply banked circular track. This is one for the thrill seekers out there and the teenagers are going to love it.

If you want to know more here is a guide to Epcot Test Track

Soarin’

Another very original ride located in Disney’s Epcot theme park. This 4 minute 40 second simulated flight ride is a flight simulator of a very different kind. You board a huge structure in front of a very large screen. The structure goes up to 40 feet into the air and guests get a sensation of flying. It takes guests over the amazing sights of California including Yosemite, The Wine Country, Monterey, San Francisco, San Diego and of course Disneyland. This is a very unique ride with no other attraction in the world quite like it.

Expedition Everest

The newest and the most thrilling of the Disney World Mountains is located in Disney Animal Kingdom park. Guests board the Anandapur Rail Service train which is scheduled to take them to the foot of Mount Everest. The journey begins mildly enough but then the tests, turns and drops begin. This is a classic roller coaster with amazing Disney theming. The attention to detail is amazing – Imagineers spent 6 years researching this ride.

Kilimanjaro Safari

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a very unique place to experience a very different animal park. The Kilimanjaro Safari ride is a favorite with all ages and teenagers are likely to enjoy this very unique opportunity to get as close to a safari experience as you can without traveling to Africa. Board a safari vehicle and your guide will take you through the plains of Africa to see lions, zebras, elephants, giraffe, hippo and many other animals at very close quarters. Don’t worry it is all in a very controlled environment so whilst you can see the lions this is Disney after all and they aren’t going to get near you!

Disney Pirates of the Caribbean Ride

This Magic Kingdom ride will be a big hit with the teenagers if they enjoyed the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Plenty of chances to catch sight of hero Captain Jack Sparrow even if he is just an audio animatronic figure. This is one of the oldest of the Disney rides (it debuted in Disneyland in 1967) and is the last attraction which Walt Disney worked on personally. A dark boat ride with lots of dark images, fighting and explosions, this one should appeal to the teens.

Space Mountain

Space Mountain is a classic Disney roller coaster which teenagers should enjoy. Not because it is fast or particularly thrilling (it only ever reaches 28 mph which is a snails pace for modern roller coasters) but because it is a unique experience. The appeal of Disney’s Space Mountain appeal is that it uses light very effectively and creates the great Disney illusion of not being quite what it seems.

Disney World Character Dining

Are you trying to decide if Disney World Character Dining is for you? A great tradition of a Disney World vacation is to dine with the characters. There are plenty of different Disney restaurants to choose from. This guide will show you which restaurants offer character dining, give you an overview of the menus and help you decide is Disney World Character Dining is the best option for you and your family.

Disney World Character Dining Tips

Disney character dining is very popular. As soon as you have decided that this is what you want to do then you should make Advance Dining Reservations either online at Disney Dining Reservations or call 407 WDW DINE. Reservations can be made up to 180 days ahead. Walt Disney World Resort guests do have an advantage because they can start to book 180 days ahead for the whole of their vacation time (for up to 10 days).

Some restaurants will need a credit card guarantee. Make sure that you note this when you make your Advance Dining Reservations and if you wish to cancel that you do so in the time stated. Or your card will be charged whether you dine or not.

What happens at a character meal? Most, although not all, of the meals are buffets. The characters will visit each table in turn and there will be a chance to take photos and get their autograph.

The Disney characters are excellent at interacting with the guests. They are very well aware that some children may be rather overwhelmed by seeing even their favorite character in life size form! So they will get the message if your child really does not want to come out from underneath the table, but they will also do their very best to coax them out!

For each Disney restaurant there will be a list of characters who are expected to appear. This is just a guide and not a guarantee. Remember even Cinderella needs a rest sometimes.

Where are the Disney World Character Dining locations?

Cinderella’s Royal Table

This is by far the most popular restaurant in the whole of Walt Disney World. The reason? It is located inside Cinderella’s Castle. To get a reservation here you really do have to plan ahead and book absolutely as soon as you possibly can.

Breakfast is served at Cinderella’s Royal Table from 8.00am to 11.15am every day. The price is $44.80 for adults and $29.86 for children aged 3 to 9. The food is all you care to eat which is brought plated to your table. The selection includes, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, French toast, yoghurt, granola and fresh fruit. Beverage choices include coffee, tea, juice, soda and milk.

As part of the all inclusive price you will receive a photo package which includes photos of your party with the characters.

As will all character dining you are never sure which characters will appear but usually you will see Cinderella, Fairy Godmother, Aurora, Snow White and Belle.

Lunch is priced at $48.54 for adults and $31.11 for children A photo package is included and of course you can buy extra photos if you wish to add to these.

Guests choose from a selection of Entrees including Pork Tenderloin, Major Domo’s Favorite Pie and Pasta Al Pomodoro. There is a children’s selection which of Chicken Strips, Pretzel Dogs and Bakes Pasta Marinara.

The desserts are a choice of No Sugar Sorbet, Chocolate Cream Cheese Buckle and Castle Made Rice Pudding.

Dinner with Cinderella is $54.76 for adults and $33.60 for children aged 3 to 9. Again a photo package is included in the price.

You choose an appetizer, entree and dessert. The appetizer selection is not very inspiring with a choice of Mixed Green Salad, Rock Shrimp Cocktail, Cheese Board or Soup. Entrees include Pork Chop, Duck Confit, Fried Chicken, Beef Tenderloin or Vegetarian Cassoulet.

Opinions are very divided on whether Cinderella’s Royal Table is it worth it or not. If you want the location then this really can’t be beaten. But the food is not the best in Walt Disney World – you are paying a premium for the location and experience.

The Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom

Crystal Palace is located at the end of Main Street close to Cinderella’s Castle. And in my opinion serves much better food, certainly for a much better price. The characters are Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore.

Breakfast is served between 8.30am and 10.30am. This is an all you can eat buffet with lots of selections. The menu items do change regularly but you will always find the usual favorites of scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, fruit and pastries. The cost of this character breakfast is $22.99 for adults and $12.99 for children aged 3 to 9. Tax and gratuity are extra.

Lunch is $24.99 for adults and $13.99 for children not including tax and gratuity. This is an all you can eat buffet with lots of choice. A particular favorite of mine is the Fruit and Vegetable Tofu Curry. To finish off there is plenty of choice of desserts. Why not try the Bread and Butter Pudding with Bailey’s Irish Cream Sauce?

Dinner also has a very good buffet selection including Peel and Eat Shrimp, Tropical Slaw, Prime Rib, Roasted Turkey, Chicken Fingers, Roasted Pork and Cheese Pizza. Favorite desserts include Key Lime Pie, Tiramisu and Double Chocolate Brownies.

This is one of my favorite choices when dining in Magic Kingdom. For a complete guide with menus go to:

Disney World Crystal Palace Restaurant

Princess Storybook Dining

Once upon a time the Akershus restaurant in the Norway Pavilion in Epcot was one of my favorite Disney dining experiences. However that has all changed! Some years ago the restaurant was taken over by the Disney Princesses. Whilst it is a great chance to meet the Princesses in my opinion it is probably the worst buffet food in the whole of Walt Disney World.

Having said that it is a great place to go if you have Disney Princess fans in your party. Akershus Royal Banquet Hall serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. As part of the price you pay for the meal you receive a photo package.

This is a good place to see the Princesses but if you want to have a better chance of seeing Cinderella then Cinderella’s Royal Table or dinner at 1900 Park Fare are better bets. A selection of Disney Princesses appear at each Storybook meal and include Ariel, Belle, Snow White, Mulan and sometimes Mary Poppins (not sure that she counts as a Disney Princess)!

Breakfast is $39.40 for adults and $23.42 for children aged 3 to 9. Breakfast is served family style and includes fruit, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, potato casserole, biscuits and cinnamon rolls.

Lunch pricing is $41.53 for adults and $24.49 for children aged 3 to 9. There is a small buffet table with a selection of salads, seafood, meat and cheese. Your can choose an entree from the menu. This includes such items as Salmon Burger, Venison Sausage Sandwich, and Mushroom Stuffed Pasta. There is a children’s selection too which includes pizza and hot dogs. There is a dessert plate which is brought to the table with a selection of desserts.

Dinner is the same menu as lunch and is priced at $46.85 for adults and $25.55 for children aged 3 to 9.

Garden Grill

This innovative restaurant is located in the Land Pavilion in Epcot Future World. This is a slowly revolving restaurant with views into the LIving With The Land boat ride. You dine with Mickey Mouse, Pluto and Chip ‘n’ Dale.

Dinner is served from 4pm daily and costs $34.99 for adults and $16.99 for children aged 3 to 9. All food is served family style and is brought plated to your table. It includes, breads, salad, Beef Strip Loin, Roasted Turkey, Fish, Vegetables, Potatoes and a dessert of Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp. Children have their own platter of Chicken Drumsticks, Mac and Cheese, Broccoli and Sweet Potato Sticks. For dessert there is Mickey Mousse Cookies and Cream.

Playhouse Disney’s Play and Dine at Hollywood and Vine

This is a great option if you have younger children. The Playhouse Disney gang of June, Leo, Hanny Manny and Special Agent Oso from Little Einsteins entertain children for breakfast and lunch at Hollywood and Vine in DIsney’s Hollywood Studios. Dinner is not with the characters.

Breakfast is a buffet with all the usual favorites costing $26.99 for adults and $14.99 for children aged 3 to 9.

There is also a character buffet for lunch priced at $28.99 for adults and $14.99 for children. The menu items vary but will include salads, seafood, meat and vegetarian entree selections. Of course there are some nice dessert options too.

Donald’s Safari Breakfast at Tusker House

This is the only character dining choice in Disney’s Animal Kingdom park. It is an all you can eat breakfast buffet with characters. The cost is $24.49 for adults and $10.99 for children aged 3 to 9.

There is a large selection of breakfast items including Ham and Cheese Frittata, Yam Casserole, Cheese Blintzes, Corned Beef Hash and Scrambled Eggs.

Goofy’s Beach Club Breakfast Buffet

This is located in the Disney Beach Club at Cape May Cafe each morning. The price is $26.99 for adults and $12.99 for children for a good selection breakfast all you can eat buffet. You will usually see Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Donald in their beach wear!

Chef Mickey

Chef Mickey is located in the Disney Contemporary Resort and is one of the best and most popular of the character buffets.

Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto and Chip and Dale are usually to be found here at breakfast.

You can eat breakfast and dinner at Chef Mickey’s. Breakfast is priced at $26.62 for adults and $13.99 for children aged 3 to 9. There is a large selection of cereals, fruit, pastries and cooked items including Mickey Waffles and Minnie’s Breakfast Pizza.

Chef Mickey’s is also open for dinner from 5pm to 9.30pm with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto and Donald Duck. The price is $34.07 for adults and $17.03 for children aged 3 to 9. The menu varies but has a large selection of items including a specialty carved item.

1900 Park Fare

In my opinion 1900 Park Fare has the best food of all the Disney character dining choices. This restaurant is located in the Disney World Grand Florida Resort.

The Supercalifragilistic Breakfast is attended by Mary Poppins, Alice and The Mad Hatter. Even though the Mad Hatter has to be the most annoying person to see at breakfast this character meal is a real treat. There is a large and varied selection on the buffet including strawberry and apple turnovers, pecan sticky bun, Challah bread, omelets, bacon, apple cobbler and French toast.

Breakfast is priced at $22.36 for adults and $12.77 for adults plus tax and gratuity.

Dinner is served from 4.30pm to 8.30pm and costs $35.99 for adults and $17.99 for children plus tax and gratuity. This is the best place to see Cinderella (apart from Cinderella’s Royal Table). There is a lot of choice for the dinner buffet which includes, prime rib, turkey, salmon with butter sauce, pork loin and mussels.

My Disney Girl’s Perfectly Princess Tea

This character dining experience is also located in the Grand Floridian Resort. This is very much a whole experience rather than being just about the food as this is a wonderful, but expensive, chance to go to a very special tea party with Princess Aurora. The $250 price tag includes a collectable doll, a tiara, bracelet, a scrapbook , a rose and a certificate. The $250 includes admission for one child and one adult. Addtional adult guests are $100 and a child is $150. Tax is not included.

Guests also have tea including sandwiches, cheese briquettes, lavosh crackers and fruit. For the children there is juice, fruit, and sandwiches.

Lilo and Stitch Best Friends Character Breakfast

Another chance to have a character dining experience without park admission. This Character Breakfast is at the Polynesian Resort Disney World Florida..

Breakfast is priced at $20.99 for adults and $11.99 for children aged 3 to 9. Mikey, Pluto, Lilo and Stitch are in attendance for breakfast. There is a limited choice of breakfast items and it is served family style.

Garden Grove Cafe

This is one of the lesser known character breakfasts and there are character appearances only on Saturday and Sundays in the Walt Disney World Swan hotel. The price is $20.99 for adults and $12.99 for children. There is a good selection of breakfast items. Unusually for a Disney character breakfast there is no advance reservation system.

Don’t overlook this breakfast venue, even when the characters aren’t there. It is usually quieter and has a very high quality selection of items The only downside is the slightly out of the way location in the outer reaches of the Epcot resort area.

Should You Go For A Disney Character Meal?

Really it is one of those things which you absolutely have to do at least once. Take some time to pick the experience which you think you will enjoy. They really are quite different from each other both in terms of food and experience, but there is something to please everyone.

Disney World Rides

Which are the very best Disney World Rides? The ones which are the absolute must see not to be missed trip of a lifetime Walt Disney World rides? There are so many to choose from it is difficult to narrow it down but here is my Top 10 choice.

Disney Hollywood Tower of Terror

Even approaching the Disney’s Tower of Terror you know this is going to be a very special and unique experience. The imposing 199 foot tall Tower of Terror can be seen from miles away. As you approach it you may experience second thoughts as you hear the screams of the other Disney guests on the ride!

The inspiration was the popular television series The Twilight Zone. According to Disney Imagineer Legend the Hollywood Tower Hotel dates back to 1917. Located in Hollywood the movie capital of the world it soon became famous for welcoming it’s film star guests.

But then tragedy strikes on October 31st 1939. The Tower is struck by lightning and part of the building is destroyed including 2 wings and 2 elevator shafts. Five guests have just boarded the elevator. The guests are a child star with her nanny, two young stars and a bellhop – you may see them again somewhere……

You board the elevator and then move through the hotel passage ways until you come to a brief pause. The doors open and you get a great view across the park. Just long enough to make you realize just how high you are. And then you plunge 13 storeys down an elevator shaft. Again. And again.

The ride is never the same twice as the innovative technology selects a random drop sequence each time, so you never quite know when the next plunge is about to start. The attention to detail on the ride is amazing. Even if you don’t dare to experience the ride then you should at least go through the line to see all the details on the scenes, and meet the excellent bell hops who make sure that your elevator journey is one that you will never forget.

The height requirement for Tower of Terror is 40″ so warn the kids if they aren’t going to make it.

Epcot Test Track

There really isn’t anything like this Epcot ride anywhere else in the world. Test Track is one of the most technologically advanced rides ever launched in Walt Disney World.

The idea is that it is a test facility for new vehicles. Guest board a six passenger vehicle and are driven around the test facility. Along the way you will experience a series of test including handling, breaking, and even a hot and cold test. Of course what you are really looking forward to is The High Speed Test. This is one for the thrill seekers out there. You reach speeds of up to 65 mph on a huge circular outdoor track before steady breaking brings you back into the test facility and you exit your vehicle.

Epcot Test Track is a very popular ride. It does have a Fast Pass and these do often run out by the early afternoon, so get one as soon as you arrive. There is also a single rider line which is a great idea if you do not mind being in a different vehicle to the rest of your party. There is a child swap facility too as there is a height requirement of 40″. This is one of the best child swap waiting areas as you can spend your time looking around the display of cars to keep your children entertained!

Disney It’s A Small World

This one tends to provoke quite strong feelings. You will probably either love it or hate it. However you ultimately feel about this classic Disney ride you have to experience It’s A Small World at least once. This is one of the original Walt Disney World rides, and although it has had some changes along the way, it is one which Walt himself would recognize.

Guests board a boat for an almost 11 minute ride. You are taken through many different lands to be entertained by 289 audio animatronic dolls representing many of the countries of the world. The theme is international harmony through the eyes of children. It first debuted as a ride at the World’s Fair in 1964 and was a Disneyland favorite too.

The lines can get pretty long at times and unfortunately there is no Fast Pass available. The good thing though is that the lines move pretty fast and everything is shaded from the Florida sun. This ride is suitable for all ages and is a definite Walt Disney World must see.

Disney Animal Kingdom Expedition Everest

This is the most recent of all the Disney Mountains. What sets Disney apart in all areas is attention to detail and Expedition Everest is a brilliant example of this. Imagineers spent six years researching and designing this legend of the Yeti themed ride. Much more than just a roller coaster.

Guests board the Anandapur Rail Service train which is scheduled to take them to the foot of Mount Everest. The journey begins gently enough but as you might expect there are twists and turns just around the corner. The Yeti has torn up the rail track and your journey is about to get much more interesting……..

Expedition Everest is an intense ride as is not for the faint of heart (neither is it for those under 44″ tall). A definite must see in Disney’s Animal Kingdom you do need to ride early in the morning if you want to beat the lines. There is also a Fast Pass available so one tactic is to head straight there as soon as you enter Animal Kingdom park and get a Fast Pass, then head straight to Kilimanjaro Safari (another very very popular ride).

Epcot The Seas With Nemo and Friends

This is one for all the family. Located in the Living Seas Pavilion in the Future World part of Epcot this is a relaxing ride which is just pure relaxation and entertainment. Lines can be long, and even if they aren’t there is a long walk before you actually get to the front of the line. But the wait is worth it to experience this Nemo themed ride.

Board a clammobiles for a journey of discovery through the Seas Pavilion aquarium. Very clever Disney technology makes you feel as if you are swimming with Nemo and his friends. When the ride ends you find yourself in the viewing area for one of the largest salt water aquariums in the world. A great way to relax and just slow down the pace of the day. The Seas with Nemo and Friends is a great ride for all the family.

Aerosmith Rock N Roller Coaster

One of the very best rides at Walt Disney World and certainly the best of the Disney World Roller Coasters. Rock N Roller Coaster is a true thrill ride. Located adjacent to the Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios this 80 foot tall 2 minute 2 second indoor roller coaster accelerates from 0-57 mph in a breathtakingly fast 2.8 seconds.

This is one for the thrill seekers amongst you and there is a 48″ height requirement. The combination of the roller coaster technology and the music of Aerosmith makes this a very popular ride. A Fast Pass is available. When you arrive at Hollywood Studios head quickly down Hollywood Boulevard and take a right on Sunset. Get a Fast Pass for either Tower of Terror or Rock N Roller Coaster and ride the other one before the crowds get the better of you.

The idea behind the ride is that Aerosmith are late for their concert appearance. You have a back stage pass but you need to quickly get to the performance with them. What better way than to share a super stretch limo that will speed you to the venue. And of course you will encounter twists, turns and 360 loops along the way, whilst listening to the band.

Epcot Spaceship Earth

The very symbol of Epcot. The geodesic dome which is Spaceship Earth can be seen for miles around and is one of the most recognized symbols of Walt Disney World. Spaceship Earth is one of the very best rides at Epcot.

Guests board time travel vehicles to be taken on a journey from the beginning of time to the present day. The theme is how communication has changed throughout the ages to make the earth the place which it is today, and which it may become in the future. Both educational and entertaining this is a ride which all of the family will enjoy.

Epcot Spaceship Earth is located right at the entrance to Future World, but often it is best not to follow the crowd and ride this attraction first. If the line is more than 15 to 20 minutes long then wait until later in the day when crowds will often have moved further into the park and you can sometimes just walk onto the ride with little or even no wait.

Disney Pirates of the Caribbean Ride

These days you will of course find Captain Jack Sparrow in this iconic Disney ride. Guests board a boat and sail along for an eight and a half minute pirate themed ride. The ride debuted in Disneyland in 1967 and has been a park favorite ever since, having enjoyed even more popularity since the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Pirates of the Caribbean is billed as a journey for all the family but be aware that it is dark, with some frightening images. My youngest children still are really not very keen on this ride!

Unfortunately there isn’t a Fast Pass for Pirates of the Caribbean, but the ride does move fast and is under cover so at least you aren’t out in the Floridian sun.

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin Ride

A modern variation on a classic shooting arcade. Help Buzz Lightyear on his mission to save the world from Evil Evil Emporer Zurg. This is a lot of fun for all ages. Guests board a Space Ranger vehicle built for two and use the laser gun to shoot at the targets to win point. This really appeals to the competitive spirit in everyone (hint: ignore the round targets as they bring the lowest scores).

The line is fast loading so even if the line is long you do feel as though you are making progress! And it is always fun to meet Buzz Lightyear himself in the line. Younger members of the family, and perhaps some of the older ones too, will marvel at the larger than life fully articulate Buzz Lightyear in the line.

Disney World Space Mountain

A Disney classic. Space Mountain remains one of the most popular of the Disney Mountains. Walt Disney always wanted a space age attraction. Tomorrowland was his vision of the future and he wanted a major attraction for this Disney World land.

Space Mountain is not particularly fast. At 28 mph is it positively slow for a roller coaster. But the appeal is not it’s speed. It is in it’s theming and innovative use of lighting. Guests are always surprised when the realize that this is not a fast or particularly complex ride. It’s appeal is that it uses light very effectively and creates the great Disney illusion of not being quite what it seems.

It is also a lot of fun to board the Transit Authority, a slow moving people carrier attraction which travels right through Space Mountain. All you can see is flashing lights, the boarding area, and sometimes even hear the screams from the Space Mountain riders. But if you want to catch a glimpse of Space Mountain without daring to ride then this is a good way to do it.

Of course Space Mountain is a popular ride. But there is a Fast Pass and a Child Swap area. Guests must be at least 40″ to ride.

So there it is. My own personal list of unmissable Walt Disney World rides. I know that many of you have your own personal favorites. There are so many to choose from a list of 10 is almost an impossible task. So which would be on your list of top 10 favorite Disney World rides?

Top 10 Places to Take a Nap at Walt Disney World

Why do you need even need to think about taking a nap in Walt Disney World? There is no denying that a Walt Disney World vacation takes quite a lot of energy! There is so much to see and often so little time to see it that it can be a tiring place to visit. The usual advice is to go back to your hotel and spend the afternoon in the swimming pool. Great advice but it can be time consuming, particularly if you are not staying on Walt Disney World resort. So what better to replenish your energy than a power nap?

Now I know that some of you will be horrified that I am suggesting you actually sleep through these attractions. Ideally all of them should be experienced at least once in a lifetime. But if you really need to get some of your energy back to face the rest of the day and make it to the fireworks then this is a strategy that actually works!

So here is my list of the best places to take a nap in Walt Disney World!

Impressions de France

Daily Disney - Free Friday - A Beautiful Morning In Paris

Some people say that Epcot stands for Every Person Comes Out Tired and there really is a lot of truth to this! Epcot is huge and there is a lot of walking involved if you spend a whole day here and explore World Showcase.

One of my favorite attractions is in the Epcot France pavilion. The 18 minute movie is Impressions de France. Make sure that you try and actually experience this attraction at least one time before actually using it as a place to nap! The comfortable seats and soothing French classical music make this a perfect place just to close your eyes for a moment and rest.

The American Adventure

Located in the American Pavilion in Epcot this is one of the greatest examples of amazing Imagineer innovation. This 30 minute show takes us through the history of America. Well worth seeing but also ideal for a rest. It’s central location in Epcot’s World Showcase make it perfect for a nap in the middle of the day.

Universe of Energy

This Epcot attraction may be slightly ironically named for a great place to sleep for 15 minutes or even longer! The pre show is 8 minutes long and then you board a huge traveling theater car to learn about where energy comes from, and encounter a few dinosaurs along the way. The theater is dark and the ride is long – 37 minutes where you can’t leave even if you wanted to! The perfect place for a sleep although it can get a little noisy at times and the seats are not the most comfortable places to rest.

Spaceship Earth

Epcot Spaceship Earth is of course the most iconic of Disney attractions. It is also a great place to take some time out from racing around the park. This 13 minute ride takes you on a journey through time. The advantages if you really do want to shut your eyes for a while is that it is dark, reasonably comfortable and pretty quiet!

It’s A Small World

Disney - Small World Taj Mahal

This has to be the classic Disney World attraction where tired adults and children can always take a rest in air conditioned comfort! I am not sure that my husband ever goes on this ride without falling asleep for at least 5 minutes. You will never get the song out of your head even if you have been asleep for most of the 10 minutes and 30 seconds ride. This is a not to be missed Magic Kingdom classic so make sure you stay awake at least one time!

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

The Transit Authority is located in Tomorrowland in Disney’s Magic Kingdom park. This is the perfect place for a rest because in all but the busiest times you can keep going around and around for as long as you want to. It takes 10 minutes to travel around in the continuously running cars. The best part is going through Space Mountain where you can hear and sometimes catch a glimpse of the roller coaster vehicles speeding around the track. Lines are usually non existent so if you need a break head to Transit Authority.

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress

This fun journey through time from the 1920′s to the present day American family is well worth a look. And the comfortable seating and 20 minute duration make it an ideal place for a rest in Magic Kingdom.

Disney’s Haunted Mansion

Daily Disney (Explored)

Although a little short at 7 minutes and 30 seconds to be the prefect resting stop, The Haunted Mansion is a comfortable and of course dark place to rest! You could be a little scared of course if you wake up suddenly and wonder where you are……

Muppet Vision 3D

This is one of my favorite shows in Disney Hollywood Studios. This 17 minute show based around the Muppet Show is a not to be missed attraction. But if you feel in need of a break it is also a comfortable place to take a nap. Have to confess I did this myself last week! The only difficulty is that there are some loud noises particularly towards the end of the show. So you may be woken up a little abruptly at the end – yes I do speak from experience!

Finding Nemo The Musical

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is not the easiest place to find an attraction to actually take a power nap. Most attractions are fast paced, interactive, require walking, or are just plane scary! So this was a difficult choice, but Finding Nemo The Musical is a place where I will confess that I have caught a few minutes of precious down time. The theater is not idea as a place to rest though – the benches are not that comfortable and you are often packed in there with 1,500 other guests. The show is a definite must see but if you really need a place to escape for a while this could be the one.

Disney World Roller Coasters

When you think of Disney World you probably think of Mickey Mouse and Cinderella. But don’t overlook the Disney World roller coasters. You will find some of the world’s most innovative and family oriented roller coasters in Walt Disney World.

All photos courtesy of Expressmonorail

Disney World is known for it’s mountains. You will find Disney classic roller coasters Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom. Disney’s newest mountain, Expedition Everest is in Animal Kingdom. If you want to accelerate from 0 to 57 mph in just 2.8 seconds and experience more G Force than a Shuttle launch then Aerosmith’s Rock N Roller Coaster at Disney Hollywood Studios is the place to be. Of course Disney has something for all ages and the little ones can enjoy Goofy’s Barnstormer in Magic Kingdom.

Which Disney World roller coaster travels at just 28 mph but is probably the best known of all? Which train gives you the most thrilling ride on Big Thunder Mountain? And how can you spend less time in line and more time enjoying the attractions?

Disney World Space Mountain

Daily Disney (Explored)

Space Mountain is perhaps the best known and best loved Disney World roller coaster. It is located in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom. It opened on January 15th 1975 and has been one of Disney World’s most popular rides ever since. Space Mountain is a roller coaster in the dark which relies heavily on Disney Imagineering for it’s appeal. Riders are surprised to learn that the top speed of Space Mountain is just 28 miles per hour. The steepest drop is 39 degrees. But it’s twists and turns and unexpected drops make is one of the best loved and most popular Disney World rides.

There are 2 roller coaster tracks inside Space Mountain – Alpha and Omega. But no need to be concerned about which side that you get as both offers the same experience.

Best loved of course means long lines. So make use of the Fast Pass system when you can. Space Mountain is the first attraction that many people head to when arriving at Magic Kingdom. It is often a good idea not to just be one of the crowd – so if you want to cut down your wait time make sure that you head to Tomorrowland for a Fast Pass as soon as you arrive. Another tactic is to wait until nearer park closing to see how long the line is.

The height restriction for Space Mountain is 44″ and children under the age of 7 must have an adult with them. If you have a child too small or just too scared to ride then use the Child Swap facility where one parent can ride and the other waits. The waiting parent can then swap and enter the Fast Pass Line. Ask a Cast Member for details before joining the line.

Disney Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Disney - Big Thunder Mountain

Disney’s Big Thunder Mountain is located in Frontierland is Magic Kingdom. This is another Disney classic having first appeared in Disneyland. The theme is a cursed runaway train in the abandoned town of Tumbleweed, an old gold rush town which was deserted following a flash flood. Big Thunder Mountain is wonderfully themed and the attention to detail is as you would expect from Disney, exceptional. The mountain is inspired by the landscape of Utah and Arizona’s Monument Valley.

The Big Thunder Mountain train reaches speeds of up to 30 miles an hour and there are 3 significant dips. The ride is 3 minutes long, Nothing really scary though so this one is usually fine to take the youngest of the kids provided they meet the 40″ height requirement. Guests who do not enjoy the larger roller coasters will usually enjoy Big Thunder Mountain. So even if you usually say no to roller coasters you may want to give Big Thunder Mountain a try.

Those looking for the more thrilling experience should ask the Cast Member is they can ride on the back.

Big Thunder Mountain is an entirely different experience after dark. If you have experienced it in the day time be sure to go back at night if you have the time,

It is one of the most popular rides in Magic Kingdom so be sure to use the Fast Pass system.

Rock N Roller Coaster

Disney - Rock N Roller Coaster

The Aerosmith Rock N Roller Coaster is one of the most popular rides in Walt Disney World. Located in Disney Hollywood Studios this 80 foot tall 2 minute 2 second indoor roller coaster ride accelerates from 0-57 mph in 2.8 seconds. Rock N Roller coaster is a ride which will satisfy even the most serious of adrenaline seekers.
You will experience between 4 and 5 G Force depending on where you sit in the ride.

Rock N Roller coaster may be a thrill ride but it is very much a Disney experience. The inspiration was the music of Aerosmith. Guests will first step into the G-Force Recording Studio to meet their rock and roll hosts. You will learn that Aerosmith need to leave quickly to speed their way to their next concert. You will travel in a special stretch limo as their guests.

The Aerosmith Rock N Roller Coaster features a specially recorded sound track which you will hear through special speakers mounted in your stretch limo vehicle. It almost takes your mind of the fact that you are speeding around the track at anywhere at up to 57 mph and going through 3 inversions. Well almost but not quite!

This is a pretty intense ride for Disney World and some guests may change their mind in the loading area. The sight of the stretch limo accelerating away at such speed is a little too much for some. If you decide it is all too much then just tell a Cast Member and they will show you how to exit.

Rock N Roller Coaster is a popular ride. A Fast Pass is available for this ride and there is also a Single Rider Line. Make use of both of these facilities if you can. Rock N Roller Coaster is right by Hollywood Tower of Terror so when you arrive in the park look at the board for the wait times on both of them and decide which to ride first and which to get a Fast Pass for.

There is a height requirement for Rock N Roller Coaster of 48 inches. A Child Swap is available. If there is a member of your party too small, young or just plain scared to ride the attraction then one of you can stand in line while the other waits with the child. Then after the first person has experienced the ride the other can get into the Fast Pass Line. You must ask a Cast Member for a Child Swap pass before you get in line.

Disney Expedition Everest

Disney - Expedition Everest HDR (Explored)

Head on over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom for the newest roller coaster. In keeping with Disney tradition Expedition Everest is another mountain attraction. It debuted on April 7th 2006 and took Disney Imagineers 6 years to research and build. As you would expect the attention to detail is amazing. The line for Expedition Everest is worth seeing even if you don’t want to experience the attraction!

Even though it is named after the great mountain, the ride is not meant to be a copy of the real Mount Everest. It is a fictional Forbidden Mountain which takes it’s inspiration from the story of the Yeti. Disney Imagineers created the most complex animatronic figure for the Yeti – unfortunately it always broke down quite a bit and is at the time of writing not working!

This is a roller coaster with twists, turns and drops. Definitely not one for the faint hearted. Yes it has the fabulous Disney touch, but at heart it is a fairly serious thrill experience.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that this roller coaster is like Big Thunder Mountain – it is much more intense. Disney does emphasize that this is a family ride and many children do love it. But just be aware that some children also find it quite scary – just use your best judgment and remember that you can always use the Child Swap facility if your little one either doesn’t meet the 44″ height requirement of just doesn’t want to ride.

As you would expect Disney’s Expedition Everest is a popular ride. Head straight there when you enter the park in the morning if you want to skip the lines. Use a Fast Pass and the Single Rider line to save time.

There are so many great roller coasters in Walt Disney World. Whether you want the speed of Rock N Roller Coaster or the classic Space Mountain there is a Disney World roller coaster for everyone.

It is a very unique place which draws visitors looking for very high quality hotel accommodation in the middle of Walt Disney World. And perhaps a very different experience. Disney Animal Kingdom Villa Accommodation

You have a choice of luxury accommodation at Walt Disney Animal Kingdom Villas. From a studio sleeping 4 to a Grand Villa for 12 you have a lot of choice. Since the opening of Kidani Village the accommodation is now split between the Jambo House (the original Animal Kingdom Lodge building) and the Kidani Village which opened in 2009.

Animal Kingdom Resort guests now have the benefit of recreational and dining facilities at both Kidani Village and the original Jambo House too.

Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort also has 1,293 guest hotel rooms in the Jambo House.

Disney Animal Kingdom Resort Studios

The studios sleep up to 4 guests plus a child aged 3 and under in a crib. There are studios in Kidani Village and the Jambo House. The studios in Kidani Village are slightly larger at 366 square feet against the 316 to 366 square feet of the Jambo House studios.

The studios have a Queen size bed and a sleeper sofa. You really can’t do that much cooking as you only have a refrigerator and microwave. But with all the Disney dining options perhaps that isn’t what you are looking for!

The Animal Kingdom Studios have either a parking area or pool view. If you want a Savannah view then choose the Deluxe Studios in Jambo House or Deluxe Studio Savannah view in Kidani Village. Of course you do pay a premium for the view but really this is one of the most amazing views so you really do want to think seriously about upgrading.

Disney Animal Kingdom One Bedroom Villas

Animal Kingdom Lodge

The one bedroom villas offer a lot more space and can accommodate up to 5 guests (although the value one bedrooms have a limit of 4 plus an infant). These have a very generous 807 square feet of space in Kidani Village. The one bedrooms in Jambo House have 629 to 710 square feet of space.

Each has a master bedroom with a King bed and whirlpool bath. Kidani Village villas have 2 bathrooms whilst the Jambo House has one. This may be an important factor in deciding which one to book. Each has a Queen sleeper sofa in the living room. Also there is an additional sleeper chair in all except the value room.

Each one bedroom villa has a full kitchen and a washer dryer. Many guests will be taking the Disney Dining Plan but having the advantage of a kitchen is a great asset when you are on vacation. A huge plus is the stacked washer and dryer. It saves on all that packing you need to do!

Each one bedroom villa has a balcony.

Kidani Balcony

You can choose from a Standard (parking lot or pool) or Savannah View for the One Bedroom villas in either Jambo House or Kidani Village.

There is also an option of a Deluxe Studio on the Club Level of Jambo House. This brings the opportunity to book certain optional experiences such as the Wildlife Discovery Excursion, the Sunrise Safari Breakfast Adventure and the Wanyama Safari and Dinner. Guests also have access to the Club Level Lounge in Jambo House.

Two Bedroom Villas

In Kidani Village there are 2 types of 2 Bedroom Villa. At 1173 square feet you have a choice of Dedicated 2 Bedroom and Lock Off 2 Bedroom. The dedicated villa is a ‘true’ 2 bedroom and the ‘lock off’ is a studio and a one bedroom connected.

The Kidani Village Dedicated 2 Bedroom Villa can sleep up to 9 people plus an infant in a crib. The villa has a master bedroom with a King size bed. There are 3 bathrooms with the master having a whirlpool tub. The second bedroom has 2 Queens and there is a Queen size sleeper sofa and an additional sleeper chair in the living room. There is a full kitchen.

You have a choice of Standard or Savannah view.

The Kidani Village Lock Off 2 Bedroom Villas are also 1173 square feet. The value villas sleep up to 8 and the standard sleep up to 9 guests plus an infant in a crib. The villa has a master bedroom with a King size bed and a master bathroom with a whirlpool tub. Jambo House villas have one additional bathroom whilst Kidani Village have 2. There is a Queen size bed and single sleeper sofa in the second bedroom. The living area has a Queen size sleeper sofa and a sleeper chair (except in the value rooms which do not have the sleeper chair so accommodate one less guest).

All the villas have a full kitchen. Again you have a choice of Savannah or a Standard View.

You get extra space in Kidani Village as the Jambo House 2 bedroom villas are 945 to 1074 square feet.

Grand 3 Bedroom Villas

The 3 bedroom villas sleep up to 12 in both Jambo House and Kidani Village. These villas will give you a lot of space to spread out, and of course all have a view of the Savannah. The Kidani Village villas are 2201 square feet and the Jambo House 2349. The Kidani Village 3 bedroom villas are on 2 levels, whilst the Jambo House are single level.

Each villas has a King size bed in the master, and 2 Queen sized beds in the 2 additional bedrooms. There is also a Queen size sleeper in the living room. The villas have 4 bathrooms including a master bathroom with a whirlpool tub.

The villa has a full size well equipped kitchen, and a washer and dryer.

The 3 bedroom villas are priced from $1550 a night in Value Season.

Should I Choose a Disney Animal Kingdom Savanna View?

Of course the savannah view rooms are charged at a higher room rate than the standard rooms but in my opinion if you can fit this into your budget then it is well worth booking a room with a view of the animals. It really is a unique experience which the whole family is sure to enjoy. If you only book a standard room then of course there is plenty of chance to see the animals from one of the many lookout areas in the resort – but waking up to a view of a giraffe from your very own balcony is an experience you will likely never forget.

Disney Animal Kingdom Villa Restaurants

Disney Animal Kingdom Resort has an excellent choice of restaurants.

You will find Jiko at The Jambo House. This is one of the best fine dining experiences in Walt Disney World. The first thing that you will notice is the beautiful decor. The theme for the restaurant was inspired by the colors and landscape of the opening scenes of The Lion King movie. The cuisine has a very definite African influence and there is plenty on the menu to tempt you. The flatbreads are a specialty and definitely worth trying. Entrees range from around $30 and upwards. Great options include Swahili Curry Shrimp, Maize Crusted Halibut and Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon. The restaurant is also well known for it’s extensive, South African only, wine list. Jiko is definitely worth a visit wherever you are staying on Walt Disney World.

Sustainable Fish at Sanaa - Arctic Char

Boma is another favorite in Jambo House. This buffet restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner each day. The breakfast buffet at Boma is $18.99 for adults and $10.99 for children (aged 3-9). Dinner is $32.99 for adults and $15.99 for children. Tax and Gratuity are not included.

Breakfast at Boma has all the usual favorites plus a few which you may never have heard of before. Try the quinoa porridge, Bobotie (corn beef, eggs, cream, potato and onion) and don’t forget the Brioche.

The dinner buffet at Boma has delicious food with an African influence. I know that description may deter some guests but it really shouldn’t! The menu changes daily but usually includes favorites such as prime rib and salmon. There is a great selection of soup and salads. And don’t forget the amazing selection of deserts. Try the Zebra Domes and Simba Paw Prints.

For quick service dining Mara at the Jambo House is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This counter service restaurant offers the usual favorites – waffles, pizza and burgers. It is located just next to the pool and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Sanaa is an excellent full service restaurant located in Kidani Village. The restaurant decor is stunning. The word Sanaa translates as “work of art” in Swahili. A huge feature of the restaurant is the large windows overlooking the savanna – so you may even see a giraffe passing by as you relax and enjoy the excellent African/Indian influenced cuisine. The menu offers a wide variety of items. Sample such Appetizers as Pea and Potato Samosa, Seared Panner Cheese and Pulled Duck with Red Curry Sauce. Entrees include a selection of curries and favorites such as Tandoori Chicken. There is a good selection for vegetarians including a $14.99 vegetarian sampler. For dessert try the Mango Pudding, Chai Cream or Chocolate Cake.

Both the Jambo House and Kidani Village villas offer room service dining.

Disney Animal Kingdom Villas Recreation

I have to confess that for me that Animal Kingdom Resort has less to do with recreation than with quite relaxation, but I know that many of you are interested in the recreation facilities! There are so many places just to sit and escape at the Disney Animal Kingdom Resort. It is such a haven from the noise of modern life that perhaps we should all just take a moment to sit and do absolutely nothing but take in the surrounding beauty.

The Jambo House and Kidani Village each have their own recreation facilities but if you are a guest of one then you have a choice of either facility. Whilst it is fine to walk over to use restaurants and other facilities I would say that really you will only want to use the pool at your home resort – as the hassle of walking to the other part of the resort may prove too much, particularly if you have children anxiously wanting to get into the pool!

The jambo House has Uzima Springs pool which at 11,000 square feet is the largest swimming pool at a Walt Disney World hotel. Uzima Springs has a 67 foot water slide, zero depth entry and a children’s wading pool. There are two hot tubs located away from the pool in secluded, shaded and usually quieter areas. The main pool does get very crowded at busy times and sometimes the seating area just doesn’t offer quite enough space. Unfortunately there is no ‘quiet’ pool for those preferring a bit of relaxation.

Animal Kingdom Lodge

Kidani Village has Samawati Springs. This is a 4,700-square-foot, zero-depth entry pool with a 128-foot long slide. This pool also has 2 hot tubs.

The Jambo House and Kidani Village have a playground. The at Kidani Village is of course newer and much larger but both will keep young children happy for hours. This is an interactive water park which the kids will really love. If you are staying in Jambo House this is worth a visit if you have younger children.

The Jambo House has Simba’s Clubhouse a child care center for children aged 4 to 12 years old.. Reservations can be made in advance by calling 407 WDW DINE.

Both also have a fitness center and a jogging trail. The fitness centers are free to use for resort guests.

The Disney Animal Kingdom resort offers 2 of the most interesting gift shops you will find in all of the Walt Disney World hotels. Of course you will still find the usual favorites in the stores. If you need a Mickey Mouse mug or a Goofy plush you will find one. But the African themed goods are the most interesting and even if you are not a guest of the hotel but are visiting one of the restaurants be sure to stop by in the store to browse around.

Disney Animal Kingdom Transportation

Disney Animal Kingdom resort is part of the bus transportation system. This is perhaps the one negative aspect of the resort – the bus service does tend to be a little slow as the Disney Animal Kingdom Resort is right on the edge of the property. Even though it is next to Animal Kingdom Park the only way to get there is by bus or car – there is no path to walk there. You may find that you want to rent a car if you are staying at the resort.

Are Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas the Right Choice?

The resort is certainly one of the most unique in the whole of Walt Disney World. The villas are spacious and beautifully decorated. If a villa is not what you are looking for then explore the possibilities of the Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge hotel rooms.

The dining choices are excellent and there is plenty to keep you occupied at the resort. Animal Kingdom Lodge is a wonderful choice if you are looking for the experience of a lifetime. The relaxing, laid back atmosphere, combined with the amply opportunities to see the animals make Disney’s Animal Kingdom Resort one of the very best choices in the whole of Walt Disney World.

Disney Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek

Have you ever wished that you could get up close and personal with the wildlife at Disney’s Animal Kingdom? Now you will have the chance as Disney is introducing a new and exciting tour – The Wild African Trek.

Although Disney hasn’t yet specified whether guests under age 16 will be allowed on the tour I am guessing that because of the nature of the experience this one is going to be for the grown ups only. Part of this 3 hour experience is that you will step to the edge of a cliff to get a great view of the hippos and crocodiles. Never fear. You will have a safety line – but I am thinking this really isn’t an experience for the kids!

The 3 hour Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek will be limited to just 12 people per tour and will run several times a day. Guests will get to see parts of Harambe Wildlife Reserve which are usually closed off to the public. Each tour will be lead by an experienced guide and guests will travel in overland safari vehicles.

At the end of the tour guests will spend time at a private safari camp which is set up above the savannah. There they will watch the animals whilst sampling the Tastes of Africa.

To reserve the Disney Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek call 407 WDW TOUR. The price will vary seasonally. If you can book now and take a tour between January 16th and February 26th 2011 there is a discounted price of $129 per person. You will also need to have park admission to Animal Kingdom. It is highly likely to be one of the most popular Walt Disney World tours so book as soon as you can.

Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge

If you are looking for a very special luxury Disney World resort hotel then you really should consider Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. A stay at this unique resort is definitely something very special. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is located adjacent to the Animal Kingdom theme park. Step inside the lobby and you will feel as though you have been transported to a luxury safari lodge on the African continent.

The best thing about the Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge? The wildlife! This deluxe Disney hotel is set in a 40 acre savanna where over
200 species of animals and birds roam freely. There are animals, which include giraffe, zebra, ostrich, impala and wildebeest, to be seen throughout the resort.

If you choose a Savanna view room (and you really should if you can) then you can wake up, step out on your balcony and view the giraffes. No other resort in North America offers you this unique experience.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Resort is their newest deluxe resort The hotel was built in 2001. The resort has seen some recent expansion. The new Animal Kingdom Villas comprise Kidani Village and The Jambo House which offer villa style accommodation and are part of the Disney Vacation Club but are open for booking by all guests.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Rooms

How do you choose the best rooms in Animal Kingdom Lodge? There are 1,293 guest rooms most of which are 344 square feet in size. Most have full balconies. The deluxe rooms are larger in size and there are some suites available.

The majority of rooms are standard rooms. These are located on floors 1 to 4. Standard rooms have either 2 Queen beds, a King bed or 1 Queen and a bunk bed. There are also a number of rooms which are wheelchair accessible King rooms. Each room accommodates up to 5 people. The bunk bed rooms are a lot of fun for those with young children.

Deluxe rooms are the same configuration as the standard rooms but are larger at 381 square feet. They are located on floors 5 and 6. All deluxe rooms are concierge rooms.

The bathrooms in Animal Kingdom Lodge are of a split design so there is a sink and vanity outside the bathroom. One common complaint about the rooms is that they are not very well lit. If a lighted mirror is important to you then best bring one from home!

The most important thing about your choice of Animal Kingdom Lodge room is your choice of view. Usually I advise guests to think very carefully if the upgrade price of a view room in an hotel is really worth it to them. But in the Animal Kingdom Lodge I really do think that you will get so much more out of the experience if you choose a savannah view. It is so much part of the experience that if you can afford the upgrade then go for it!

There are 135 Standard View Rooms. These have a view of the parking lot and of course are the lowest priced rooms available. There are also 136 Pool View Rooms. The pool area is very attractive and beautifully landscaped. It can of course get a little noisy at busy times.

The majority of the rooms, at 724, are Savanna View Rooms. Disney of course designed the building to make maximum use of the unique animal viewing opportunities at this resort. There are also 191 Deluxe Savanna View Rooms and 55 Concierge Rooms (both pool and savannah view).

If you really want to treat yourself then the Presidential and Vice Presidential Suites are available, as well as 5 one bedroom suites and 12 two bedroom suites.

If you choose a Savanna Room then the general opinion is that the views from the 3rd and 4th floor rooms are the best. Also remember that the Lodge is set around 3 separate savannas – Sunset, Arusha and Uzima – and not all of them have the same animals. I always request the Sunset savanna as this is the only one with zebras. Fortunately all 3 of the savannas have giraffe. These truly amazing animals are visible from all areas of the resort.

You can request a room located on a particular floor or savanna – but remember always that requests are not guaranteed.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge has many viewing areas from which to see the animals – so it isn’t just those guests staying in the savanna rooms who have this privilege. There are both inside and outside viewing areas. There are comfortable rocking chairs located on outside viewing areas – a favorite place to sit back, relax and enjoy a glass of wine. This being Disney you would also expect a little magic. At night time the Savanna area lit as though it is full moon every night.

How much do rooms cost at Animal Kingdom Lodge? A standard view room starts from $240 per night rising to around $400 at Holiday Season. Standard Savanna view rooms start at around $290 to $465 per night. Bunk bed rooms are priced slightly higher.

Deluxe pool view rooms start at $310 and rise to almost $500 a night at peak time. Deluxe savanna view rooms start priced at $360 rising to $560. Again, bunk bed rooms are higher priced.

Deluxe concierge level rooms pricing starts at $465 and rises to around $700.

Where are the Best Rooms in Animal Kingdom Located?

To answer this question you first need to have an idea of the resort layout of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

You will enter the resort on the 3rd Floor into the huge breathtaking lobby. The 4 guest room wings are each 5 stories high and fan out from the lobby building. Surrounding these ‘wings’ are the savannas.

The Zebra Trail and Kudo Trail wings offer the most attractive and best views. The best savanna views are on the Kudo and Zebra Trails facing the interior savannas. Exterior room views are good but generally not quite so good as the interior.

Pool views are offered by some of the outside facing Zebra Trail and Giraffe Trail rooms.

The Ostrich Trail and Giraffe Trail rooms are perhaps the least desirable wings as well as being the smallest. Some rooms on the Ostrich Trail overlook a small Savanna but many overlook the entrance. Some Giraffe Trail rooms overlook the pool but most have a view of the entrance instead.

Which floor is the best? General opinion seems to be that the 3rd and 4th floor rooms have the best views of the savanna.

As the view is a very crucial part of your stay it is worth doing your research and requesting a room on a particular part of the Lodge. Requests are not guaranteed but it does cut down the risk that you will be allocated a room that you are not quite happy with. This really is something which your Disney Travel Agent can help you with. The right room can make a big difference.

What does Animal Kindgom Lodge Concierge level offer?

The Kilimanjaro Club lounge is for the exclusive use of concierge and suite guests at Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is located on the 5th floor of the Lodge. Strangely the resort was designed so that the lounge does not have a view of the savannas – an unusual planning quirk for Disney.

You will find helpful concierge staff in The Kilimanjaro Club who can arrange tours, dining reservations and answer any questions that you may have. The Club also serves snacks and beverages throughout the day. A selection of beer and South African wine are available in the evening from 5pm to 7pm with appetizers from Boma and Jiko. The standard of the food and beverages is high and certainly well worth taking advantage of if you are staying on concierge level.

A major benefit of concierge level at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is that you have exclusive access to the Sunrise and Sunset Safari. Many would say that for this alone it is worth upgrading to concierge at Animal Kingdom Lodge. These safaris are separately priced and must be booked ahead of time as they are very popular. You will experience a safari ride within the savannas – your real chance to get up close to the animals. If you are able to book this experience then it is highly recommended – many say that this is highlight of their vacation.

In my opinion it is worth upgrading to concierge level if you can. I have stayed in many hotels both in standard and concierge level and probably the best value for the money was in Animal Kingdom Lodge. The food is excellent and it is worth it for that alone. But add in the Safari experiences open only to concierge guests and you really do have a winning package worth the splurge.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Recreation

The Animal Kingdom Lodge has one swimming pool – the Uzima Springs pool which at 11,000 square feet is the largest swimming pool at a Disney World hotel. It has a 67 foot water slide, zero depth entry and kids wading pool. There are also 2 hot tubs located away from the pool in secluded, usually quieter areas. The main pool does get very crowded at busy times and unfortunately there is no ‘quiet’ pool for those preferring a bit of relaxation.

The Lodge has a fitness center. There is also a child’s playground area located near to the swimming pool.

Children have an activity center – Simba’s Clubhouse. This supervised activity facility is for children aged 4 to 12 years old. Reservations can be made in advance by calling 407 WDW DINE.

One of the great things about Animal Kingdom Lodge is the wide variety of activities which it offers. Some are even free like the flamingo feeding, night vision animal watching over the savanna, safari games, cookie making at Boma and music of the Savanna in the Sunset Lounge.

There is plenty for all the family to enjoy – check out the daily bulletin which will be delivered to your room each day, or the posted schedule in the lobby.

Bush Camp is now available to all children aged 6 to 14. This Camp runs every Saturday from 1pm to 4pm. Bush Camp offers children the opportunity to learn about African culture and the animals of the lodge through play, organized games and activities. Advance reservations are required by calling 407 WDW PLAY. The cost is $70 plus tax.

Some of the best experiences are reserved exclusively for concierge guests – The Sunrise Safari Adventure Breakfast and the Sunset or Wanyama Safari. Each event can only be booked by contacting the Animal Kingdom Lodge Itinerary Planning Office up to 180 days in advance.

The Sunrise Safari Adventure Breakfast is available only on a Sunday or Thursday. The best way to describe this is a private Kilimanjaro Safari ride tour. You will be taken to the Animal Kingdom Park from the Lodge at 7.30 am after meeting in the concierge lounge at 6.30am. You will board your own private safari vehicle and be taken on a tour of the safari track with plenty of chances to see the animals. There are numerous chances to get some great photos of this unforgettable experience. This is a unique chance to see the animals up close without having to hurry – the tour lasts around 45 minutes. Being early in the morning many of the animals are at their most active so be prepared for some unique chances to see the animals.

After the safari you will be taken to the Tusker House restaurant for a breakfast buffet. You are then given a special Fast Pass so that you can return to Kilimanjaro Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Regular park admission is not included with this safari – so you must have a separate Disney ticket to the park too.

The cost of the Sunrise Safari is $55 for adults and $27.50 for children aged 3 to 9. You make the booking with a credit card guarantee so if you want to cancel then you must remember to do this 48 hours ahead or you will be charged.

Is the Sunrise Safari worth the expense? Many guests say that this is their favorite part of the whole vacation so if you are a concierge guest is really is well worth considering.

The Sunset Safari is also only for concierge guests. The Safari departs from Porte Cochere at the Lodge every Monday, Wednesday and Friday approximately 90 minutes before sunset. This is as close to a true safari experience as you will get outside of traveling to Africa. There is plenty of time on this 90 minute experience to observe and learn about the animals who live at Animal Kingdom Lodge. You will get some amazing photos.

Guests must be at least 8 years old and this experience is limited to just 8 people for each safari. It is popular so be sure to book well ahead

At $150 for adults and $75 for children aged 8 and 9 the Sunset Safari doesn’t come cheap – but guest reviews are very positive. The Sunset Safari also includes dinner at Jiko which in my view is one of the very best restaurants in Walt Disney World. If you get the chance this really is one of those ‘not to be missed’ Disney World experiences.

Animal Kingdom Lodge Transportation

As a guest of Walt Disney World resort you will of course have access to the free transportation system which connects the parks and resorts.

Want to know the main drawback to the Animal Kingdom Lodge? Location.
The Animal Kingdom Lodge is located right next to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. But there is no walk way so you even have to take a bus to get to the closest park.

Disney transportation has 3 modes of transport: buses, boats and the monorail. Disney’s Animal Kingdom resort is part of the bus transportation system. To be honest the buses can be slow and rather inefficient. This is the only Disney resort where I would say that a car is almost essential. You can of course use the buses but you may be frustrated by your journey times.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Restaurants.

This is another category in which the Lodge really excels – dining.
The Animal Kingdom Lodge has 2 of my very favorite Disney World restaurants – Jiko and Boma.
When I first started writing about Disney I was reluctant to ever disclose my favorite Disney restaurant for fear that it would stop being the best kept secret! Unfortunately I was right to keep it quiet. This Disney World dining secret now seems to be out. Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge has increased in popularity in recent years and it can be difficult to get a table. If you want to dine at Boma make Advance Dining Reservations by calling 407 WDW DINE.

For all of you who think that you can’t have quality food at a buffet restaurant then Boma may force you to rethink. Boma serves a buffet breakfast and dinner each day. Whilst breakfast is good I would suggest dinner for a very special treat.

The breakfast buffet at Boma is $18.99 for adults and $10.99 for children (aged 3-9). Dinner is $30.99 for adults and $14.99 for children. Tax and Gratuity are not included.

The food at Boma is a little difficult to describe. It has African influences and this is a cuisine which is a little different from that we are all used to. The menu changes daily but my favorites are the soups and the couscous and the hummous dips. There is plenty of choice of hot entrees including carved meats and fresh salmon. Boma has lots of salads and fresh fruit too. For the younger members of the family there is a special buffet with the usual favorites of mac and cheese and chicken nuggets. So don’t worry that the kids won’t find anything to eat. The desserts are also a big favorite of mine. You have to try out the Zebra Domes.

Jiko – The Cooking Place is a full service fine dining restaurant that is one of the very best in Walt Disney World. Jiko is a truly family friendly fine dining experience. Jiko serves dinner only in a beautiful African themed setting. The dining room is inspired by the opening scenes of Disney’s The Lion King. You will be shown to your table by an exchange program student from Africa who are at Disney as part of a year long cultural exchange program. The waiters at Jiko are exceptional and many are trained sommeliers who will help guide you around the exclusively South African wine list.

The flatbreads are a specialty and definitely worth trying. Entrees range from around $30 and upwards. Great options include Swahili Curry Shrimp, Maize Crusted Halibut and Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon.

If you just need a quick snack at The Animal Kingdom Lodge then Mara is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This counter service restaurant offers the usual favorites – waffles, pizza and burgers. It is located just next to the pool and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Animal Kingdom Lodge also offers Uzima Springs pool bar and Victoria Falls Lounge bar.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge now offers villa accommodation in the original resort building Jamba House and the newly built Kidani Lodge. The villas are part of Disney’s Vacation Club but are open to be booked by any guests.

Disney’s deluxe resort villas are a great option for guests looking for luxury spacious accommodation which offer kitchenettes or even full size kitchens with multiple bedrooms. The Disney villas can be an ideal vacation option for families in particular. They offer space and convenience in the very best Disney resorts.

The main building of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, The Jambo House, is where you will find 216 villas which are located on the 5th and 6th floors of the building.

There are a number of villa options in the Jambo House. Choose from a Studio, One Bedroom Villa, Two Bedroom Villa or Three Bedroom Villa. The Villas have a kitchen and the Studios have a kitchenette. The different views options are just the same as the Lodge hotel rooms with Standard (the parking lot), Pool View and Savanna all being available. Guests also have the option of Concierge Club level for the Studios and Villas. The price? Of course they vary between dates and villa types but they can be a great value if you have a larger party. Check with us for specific pricing for your dates.

The newest villas and studios are located in the Kidani Village which has 492 new units. The choice is of Studios, One Bedroom, Two Bedroom and Three Bedroom Grand Villas. The view choices are Standard and Savanna Views.

Kidani Villas is a breand new part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and has it’s own savanna. Guests can use any of the facilities of The Animal Kingdom Lodge but Kidani Village also offers some new amenities. The Village has a 4,700 square foot zero depth entry swimming pool complete with a 128 foot water slide. Adjacent to the pool are 2 hot tubs and a new Survival of the Fittest Fitness Center. The new Uwanja Camp is a 4200 square foot interactive water play area for children and teens. You will also find a half Basketball Court, 2 Tennis Courts and a Video Arcade Center.

Guests of the Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo House and Kidani Village will be able to use the facilities of both locations – you can easily walk to each part of the resort on the outdoor walking path.
