Crossroads At House of Blues Downtown Disney Review and Giveaway

We are always looking for great places to eat at Downtown Disney in Anaheim and this weekend we went to Crossroads at House of Blues. We have visited their locations in Downtown Disney Orlando and Houston but it is a while since we tried the Anaheim House of Blues location – but we were very glad that we did!

It was a rainy day at Disneyland – a rare thing in sunny California. We had spent a full day at the park so were ready to eat!

The restaurant is quite small, but the tables were arranged well, and the atmosphere and decor is fun. The Academy Awards were playing on the televisions in the background so we could see what was happening which was fun.

We ordered the Angus Sliders and the Voodoo Shrimp. My husband enjoyed the Sliders. I loved the Voodoo Shrimp. The menu describes this as “The house favorite, sautéed jumbo shrimp, simmered in an amber beer reduction on top of housemade jalapeño cornbread”. The sauce and the corn bread were excellent. I could easily have had this as a main dish with a salad. It was an excellent balance of flavors and I would certainly order this again.

My daughter is vegan and we found the waitress very helpful with our requests – particularly as we did not call ahead as we often do. The waitress went to ask the chef for her recommendations and she suggested the Flat Iron Steak Salad made vegan. This meant cutting out the steak and the cheese, leaving a salad of romaine lettuce and field greens, red onions, tomatoes, black beans and diced avocado tossed in balsamic vinaigrette. She was happy with this choice.

We also ordered a Caesar Salad as this is my eldest son’s favorite thing at the moment. This was a little disappointing though. I tried some and was thinking about why it wasn’t that great when my son said, “It tastes watery”. He was right. There just wasn’t the right balance of sauce and cheese.

For my entree I chose Lobster Mac & Cheese. It was really really good. It had just the right amount of lobster and the crunchy breadcrumbs on the top were very good.
It was similar to a dish that I ate in Epcot’s Coral Reef restaurant a few weeks ago, but if I had to choose I would say that the House of Blues version was better.

My husband ordered New York Strip and was very impressed. It was cooked as he ordered and he said it was good quality steak.

The boys ordered Cheese Pizza and Grilled Cheese with fries. They were both happy with their choices.

houseofbluesvegan

The vegan entree was an adaptation of the Pasta with Housemade Marinara from the Kids Menu. She said it was fine but that it tasted as though it had been under a heat lamp for quite a while. On the presentation side it wasn’t great, with the sauce on the side of the dish when it was served.

Of course we felt that we had to sample the desserts. The kids liked the ice cream, and my daughter was very happy that they had a Raspberry Sorbet. Often the vegan option is just fruit but it was nice to have something different.

houseofbluesbreadpudding

We ordered Chocolate Mousse which my husband enjoyed. I had the Bourbon Bread Pudding which was good. Both desserts were huge – easily made to share.

Overall our experience was excellent. The appetizers and entrees were generally of a very high quality. I admit I was surprised at how good the food was, and we will certainly be returning in the near future.

The prize will be one (1) $100 “Karma Cash” promotional voucher for a Crossroad’s at House of Blues restaurant (excluding Boston).
