Sharing is caring!

What is the Disney Cruise Dinner Dress Code? Each Disney cruise ship has some fabulous dining opportunities onboard and they all have a dress code.

The dress code for formal dining on Disney Ships has recently changed. It has become much more relaxed.

Let us see what is acceptable for each restaurant.

Disney Cruise Dinner Dress Code Explained

Disney Cruise dining is one of the best parts of the whole vacation. As you would expect, Disney is pretty laid back about what is acceptable to wear to dinner.

The rules are different according to where you eat, so let us take each in turn.

Disney Cruise Dress Code in Main Dining Rooms

The dress code on a Disney Cruise is very laid back and diverse.

You will feel just as comfortable in a t-shirt and Mickey Ears as you will in an evening dress.

Each Disney ship has 3 main rotational dining rooms. You will dine in each one of them at least once on your cruise.

There really is only one basic rule for the main dining rooms.

This is “no swimwear or tank tops”.

You will see a huge diversity of outfits in the restaurant. Mostly it is what is popularly known as “cruise casual”.

You will see lots of Disney-themed outfits.

You will feel at home wearing that Maleficent or Grumpy t-shirt.

However, if you want to dress up that is fine too.

How to Pack for a Disney Cruise

Packing for a cruise can be stressful – but it really doesn’t have to be. Learn all the secrets and tips of a professional full-time cruise blogger!

Do You Have To Dress Up For Formal Night on a Disney Cruise?

On each cruise, there will be an optional “dress up” night.

Disney doesn’t call it a formal night, but it is talking about the same idea.

Some people go all out, whereas others just don’t. It really is up to you.

The only rule for Disney Rotational Dining Restaurants is no swimwear or tank tops.

Dress-up night is a good opportunity to put on your finest clothes and have a great picture taken.

There are plenty of opportunities for a great Disney Cruise Photo.

3, 4 and 7-night cruises all have one optional “dress-up night” and at least one “cruise casual” night.

Cruises of 7 nights and above have a Formal night and a Semi-Formal Night as well.

There will also be a Pirate Night on cruises in the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and from the West Coast to Mexico.

European and Alaskan Disney cruises also have a themed deck party on one night.

You will find a huge range of different outfits on all Disney Cruises during dinner.

It really is one place where you can feel comfortable in pretty much anything.

Mickey Ears, full Pirate costume, nice formal wear or jeans, and a shirt. You will feel at home.

Disney Cabanas Buffet Dress Code

There is no dress code in the Cabanas Buffet. Except you are asked to wear a cover-up if you are wearing swim wear.

Mickey Ears are accepted everywhere on the ship, apart from the adult-only restaurants!

Marceline Market is the buffet on Disney Wish – the dress code is identical.

Disney Pirate Night Dinner Dress Code

There really can’t be many places in the world where it is absolutely fine, and almost expected, that you can dress as a pirate for dinner.

However, if you are sailing on a Disney cruise it is highly likely that you will experience Pirate Night!

All of the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream cruises have Pirate Night. The Disney San Diego Mexican, Bahamian and Caribbean Cruises also do.

You will see a whole variety of dinner wear on Pirate Night. Some people go all out and look as though they are Jack Sparrow clones. Others go for just an eye patch or Pirate Mickey Ears.

Whatever you choose to wear on Pirate Night is very much up to you. You will not feel out of place if you are wearing jeans and a t-shirt or full pirate regalia.

Disney Cruise Adult Restaurant Dress Codes

There are several restaurants on the Disney Cruise ships which allow adults only over the age of 18 to dine there.

All of these restaurants have an additional charge, which varies according to the restaurant.

Each adult restaurant used to have its own dress code, but Disney Cruise Line announced in June 2022 that the dress code would apply to all adult-only restaurants.

This new dress code for June 2022 onwards has also seen a significant relaxation of the rules. Gone are the days when you would be sent back to your stateroom to change if you were wearing jeans.

Guests are requested to dress in a manner consistent with the restaurant’s sophistication.

Formal or semi-formal attire is recommended.

Dress casual attire with a polished look is permitted (such as dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts and blouses, and lifestyle shoes). Clothing such as T-shirts, swimwear, and sports attire is not permitted.

This is a very big change from the previous rules for the dress code.

I have left the previous dress code details below so that you can compare how it has changed.

On Feb. 22, 2024, Disney Cruise Line updated the dress code for adult-exclusive restaurants.

For brunch at Palo and Palo Steakhouse, dress shorts are now acceptable.

The new changes are controversial as many people would like to see the previous dress codes be retained. Others, however, will welcome the changes.

These new rules also include Enchante on the Disney Wish.

Disney Cruise Palo Old Dress Code

Disney Palo is available on all of the ships and is exclusively for adults only.

They serve dinner every night and Brunch on each sea day.

There is an additional charge of $45 per person.

The Disney Cruise Palo dress code had already been relaxed in recent years.

It used to be that men were required to wear a dress shirt for dinner, but things have changed quite a lot since then.

Now there are of course completely new rules and this is the old dress code for Palo.

Palo Brunch on the Disney Wonder

In the past, I had seen guests turned away and sent back to their staterooms to change if they have not met the Palo dress code.

With the relaxation of the rules, it is highly unlikely that will happen – unless you arrive in something like your swimwear!

disneywonderpalo

The dress code starts by saying that guests are asked to  “preserve the ambiance of this fine-dining venue”.

I have dined in Palo many times and people tend to be dressed fairly casually at Brunch, but are more dressed up at Dinner.

The actual dress code for Palo used to state:

“Dress pants, slacks, and collared shirts are recommended for men and a dress, skirt, or pants and a blouse are recommended for women. Jeans may also be worn if in good condition (no holes). Please no tank tops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, shorts, hats, cut-offs, torn clothing, t-shirts with offensive language and/or graphics, flip-flops, or tennis shoes.”

You would not feel out of place if you dressed in either smart casual clothes or something a bit dressier at Brunch.

For a Palo Dinner, I usually use this as a chance to dress up a bit more.

The atmosphere in Palo is very different in the evening. It is more of a romantic setting, so use the chance to dress up if you want!
