There are going to be some very upset cruisers out there as Disney announces that the Disney Magic Cruise for 20th October has been cancelled.
The explanation is that the Disney Magic much awaited refurbishment was not able to be completed as planned and therefore Disney has decided that it is not ready for guests on the 20th October sailing. The Disney Magic experienced bad weather on the Transatlantic Sailing back to Miami.
We can only imagine how disappointing and inconvenient for Disney cruise line guests who were booked on this sailing.
Guests will receive a full refund of their cruise costs and any airline change fees. In addition they are offered a complimentary 5 night sailing on the Disney Magic between now and the 15th May 2014.
For guests unable to reschedule before 15th May 2014 Disney they will receive a 35% discount on a future Bahamian or Caribbean cruise. This has to be taken within two years and it excludes holiday sail dates.
Whilst we know that Disney Cruise Lines must have taken this decision very reluctantly we will wait to see the scale of the fallout from passengers booked on this Disney Magic sailing. The Disney Wonder recently cancelled 2 sailings in January for an unscheduled dry dock and many people were inconvenienced and incurred extra costs because of this. To have a cruise cancelled 3 days before you are due to sail must be extremely difficult.
For the Disney Magic cancellation they are paying airline cancellation costs, but it is not clear as to whether they will do this for the Disney Wonder January cancelled sailings. We also know that it isn’t just the financial cost of a cancelled cruise that is of concern, but that guests may not be able to easily reschedule because of work commitments.
If you are one of the passengers involved or know someone who has been affected by the cancellation of a Disney Cruise leave us a comment below.
