Disney Magic Cruise Ship Gets An Upgrade

The Disney Magic AquaDunk

The Disney Magic AquaDunk

There are some big changes coming to the Disney Magic Cruise Ship when she goes into dry dock this September. She will emerge from dry dock on October 10th 2013 with some pretty fancy upgrades.

“We have always been committed to reinvesting in our fleet and continuously making shipboard enhancements that elevate the guest experience,” said Karl L. Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. “What we’re doing with the Disney Magic is yet another step forward in our commitment to delivering the absolute best family vacations at sea.”

The Disney Magic Cruise Ship AquaDunk

Dare you ride the Disney Magic AquaDunk?

Dare you ride the Disney Magic AquaDunk?

This is perhaps going to be one of the most popular improvements. The AquaDunk is for the thrill seeking ones! It is a three-story body slide which begins with a near-vertical drop. The water ride is not quite the AquaDuck of the new ships but this one provides it’s thrills with a similar idea, and sends guests on an exhilarating ride in a translucent tube that extends 20 feet over the side of the ship.

Not sure I will personally be trying that one, but I am sure the rest of the family will! Looks like the height requirement will be 48″ so this is not for the very young ones.

DisneyMagicAquaLab

The younger members of the family will enjoy Twist n’ Spout which is the new version of the Mickey Slide. The whole kids pool area is getting a makeover and will be known as The AquaLab. The height requirement for Twist n’ Spout is to be between 38 and 64 inches tall.

The smallest members of the family (the under 3′s) are not forgotten. They will get the newly imagined Nephew’s Splash Zone which is going to be similar to Nemo’s Reef on the larger ships.

Disney Magic Cruise Ship Restaurant Changes

DisneyMagicCariocas

Thank goodness that Parrot Cay is getting a makeover. In fact a complete redesign as it will soon be remained and called Carioca’s. This is a brand new concept inspired by the culture of Brazil. I have long since felt that Parrot Cay was just not special enough or Disney enough but I am sure the redesign will turn it into something great.

Just like Parrot Cay the Caioca’s restaurant will be used for lunch and dinner. It will have a different feel in the evening when it will be transformed with different lighting.

Disney Magic Animator's Palate

The basic design of Animator’s Palate will not change but it will be updated with new HD screens and audio system. There will be new characters and scenes on the walls which transform from black and white to color during the meal.

The most exciting addition is Animation Magic which up to now has only been found on the new Disney ships. You draw your own character on a place mat and it will be transformed into an animation at the end of the meal.

DisneyMagicCabanasBuffet

There are changes for Topsider Buffet too. A much needed expansion will take place increasing the space to 9,460 square feet giving a total of 455 air conditioned seats. This is adding almost 3,400 square feet. The theme is going to be like the buffet on the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream. The remodel will increase the usable space by nearly 3,400 square feet to more than 9,460 square feet for a total of 455 air conditioned seats.

This is welcome news. Usually there is no problem finding a seat on the Disney Magic or Wonder buffets so the expanded space should make it seem even more spacious. It will be interesting to see how they are going to achieve this as I admit that it isn’t too clear from the impressions.

disneymagicpalo

Palo is also getting a make over in decoration with a Venice theme. It doesn’t look as though too much is changing apart from a new fresh look and of course those very distinctive red and yellow stride poles which are seen on the Grand Canal in Venice.

There are some minor changes to the quick service venues on Deck 9. A name change for Pluto’s Dog House to become Pete’s Boiler Bites. Goofy’s Galley gets a more feminine touch and will transform into Daisy’s De-Lites. For some reason there is no change to Pinocchio’s Pizzeria.

DisneyMagicDLounge

Studio C is thankfully getting a make over. A name change to D-Lounge and some more stylish decoration. Let’s hope that the chairs are more comfortable than in Studio C!

Disney Magic Kids Clubs

disneymagicoceannerclubandysroom

The Disney Magic Oceaneer Lab for 3 to 12 year olds is getting the biggest make over. This new Andy’s Room from Toy Story is sure to be a big hit. There is also going to be a brand new Mickey Mouse Club themed area, as well as Pixie Hollow.

One of the more surprising changes is the introduction of the first Marvel themed area on a Disney Cruise Ship. The Marvel Avengers’ Academy is the first of it’s kind and will allow kids to use technology to become a crime fighter just like in the movie The Avengers.

The Oceaneer Club is also undergoing some changes. Not too much was detailed here but there will be a Pirates of the Caribbean theme in one of the spaces.

Nothing new was announced for the teens but we would guess that the teen space will also undergo some kind of update.

DisneyMagictsasmallworldNursery

The nursery for the under 3s will be redesigned with a bold and colorful It’s A Small World theme.

Disney Magic Cruise Ship New Staterooms

DisneyMagicNewStateroom

The staterooms on the Disney Magic ship are also getting a make over. As well as new decor there is a feature which I have been wanting for a long time. They are making the bed frames higher so that you can store luggage underneath. This may sound like a small thing but to me and others it will make a big difference. There is no where in the stateroom at the moment to store anything more than a small carry on so we usually put our suitcases at the bottom of the bed, so restricting the space. To store them underneath the bed will make a big difference

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem that the virtual portholes will find their way to the Disney Magic. The cost is thought to have been prohibitive to retrofit. Looks like guests are only going to find the virtual portholes on the Disney Dream and Fantasy inside staterooms.

The concierge suites and the Walter E Disney and Roy Disney suites are also getting a very smart new look.

Senses Spa and Salon

disneymagicspa

The Senses Spa and Salon gets a more modern look with this redecoration with relaxing shades of earth tones. The space will also be expanded by 725 square feet although it is not clear where this space is coming from. It is doubtful that they can take this from the already somewhat small fitness area. Let’s please hope that they do update that as well!

Something to please the teens is the new Chill Spa for teens aged 13 to 17.

Another new feature will be the Smile Spa. Teeth whitening at sea anyone?

Adult Nightlife on Deck 3

disneymagicafterhours

The whole of the adult nightlife area is to be rejuvenated with a redesign. Back Street will get a new name as After Hours. The whole look and feel of the redesign is much more modern and sophisticated. I wonder if this will mean that the adult areas are used more in the evening than they seem to be at the moment.

disneymagicfathoms

The Rockin’ D Bar will be renamed as Fathoms. This has custom lighting and sound effects and is inspired by the ocean.

Sessions will be replaced with a new themed piano bar Keys.

disneymagicogills

Disney Magic cruise ship will get it’s very own O’Gills Irish Pub and Sports Bar to replace Diversions.

Disney Magic New Exterior

Idisneymagicnewexterior

It isn’t just the inside of the Disney Magic which is getting a major refit. The exterior is getting a very distinctive new look too. The Disney ship will magically transform from 964 feet long to 984 feet long and add 1,000 gross tons in weight. Why the change you may ask? Usually duck tails are added to increase stability. The Disney Magic and Wonder are pretty good and stable in high seas but anything a ship can do to increase stability is always a good thing. The Disney Magic often sails Transatlantic which often has higher swells so this extra stability can only be a good thing.

These changes on the Disney Magic look very exciting and are bringing the now 15 year old ship very up to date and more in line with the innovations and design of the newer ships. Most likely the Disney Wonder will be next in 2014 when she goes into dry dock.

What do you think of the changes on the Disney Magic Cruise Ship? Leave me a comment below.

Disney Cruise 2014 Sailings

Disney Cruise 2014 sailings have just been announced. We now have Disney cruise itineraries for all the ships for early 2014. The Disney Dream, Fantasy and Magic will all be sailing out of Port Canaveral Florida, and the Disney Wonder will sail from her new port of Miami Florida.

We are rather disappointed that all of the Disney Cruise ships will be on the East Coast sailing out of Florida ports for what seems like most of 2014. We are hoping though that as the dates for the Disney Wonder have only been given until April 27th there will be a full schedule of Alaskan cruises for the Wonder for 2014. This means of course that there would also need to be a repositioning cruise from Miami to (hopefully) Los Angeles sailing on April 27th 2014 and then Los Angeles to Seattle or Vancouver. This is only our speculation at the moment but of course we will keep you updated when the itineraries are announced.

It seems likely too that the Disney Magic will return to Europe for summer 2014. These have been very popular cruises and sell out quickly so it would make sense if Disney cruise line is planning on sending the Magic back there for 2014.

Unfortunately we are not surprised that the Disney cruise ships will be mostly based out of Florida for 2014. These are the itineraries which sell very well. Of course one of the reasons for this is that Florida sailings can visit Disney’s private island Castaway Cay which is consistently voted one of the highlights of a Disney cruise.

Disney Pixar California Coastal Cruises – An Invitation From John Lasseter

John Lasster has made a very special video inviting you to cruise on the Disney Wonder for the very first Disney Pixar Cruises. Just 4 sailings in September and October 2012 will be the very special Disney Pixar themed cruises

The Disney Wonder sails out of Los Angeles on Sept. 16, Sept. 23, Sept. 30 and Oct. 7 2012. I have sailed on the Disney Wonder many times and when I think about it now there really was rather a lack of Pixar characters on board. There are certainly plenty of Disney characters to be found on a Disney cruise but the most easily found are the traditional favorites such as Mickey and Minnie and of course a whole lot of Princesses! It will be great to see the Pixar characters on the cruise (yes we booked it)!

But it isn’t just the Pixar characters who will be on board. We are promised that there will also be some people from Pixar Studios. We are really looking forward to the promised presentations by the Pixar team.

All of the Pixar movies will be shown, including the shorts. And Finding Nemo 3D will premiere on board the ship. The Disney Wonder already has the stage show each sailing, Toy Story The Musical (actually my least favorite show but definitely more than worth a look).

The Disney Pixar cruise itinerary is:

Sunday Los Angeles, CA
Monday At Sea
Tuesday San Francisco, CA
Wednesday San Francisco, CA
Thursday At Sea
Friday San Diego, CA
Saturday Ensenada, Mexico
Sunday Los Angeles, CA

We are particularly looking forward to the over night stay in San Francisco as this will give us a great chance to explore this magical city. Arriving and seeing the Golden Gate Bridge should also be a highlight.

Want to sail on the Disney Pixar Cruise? Rates start at just $599* per person, based on double occupancy, in an Inside Stateroom with Restrictions onboard the Disney Wonder®. Government Taxes and Fees are not included.

What Makes a Disney Cruise So Special?

Disney Wonder Restaurants

There are 3 restaurants on the Disney Wonder cruise ship. Disney is known for it’s innovative Rotational Dining on it’s cruise ships. What this means is that each night you dine at a different restaurant but that your wait staff move around with you so that you always have the same Head Server, Server and Assistant Server. This concept works really well as you get to know your servers and they get to know your dining preferences so that they can make your dining experience even better.

The Disney Wonder has 3 different restaurants and you will dine in each one at least once during your cruise. As soon as you check in and get your room key you will see some letters printed on it which will show you your dining rotation. A is for Animator’s Palate, P is for Parrot Cay and T is for Triton’s.

Animator’s Palate

This is perhaps most guests favorite restaurant on the Disney Wonder. You will also find it on Disney Magic. The concept proved so popular that they have a redesigned version of it on the Disney Dream and the new Disney Fantasy.

Animator’s Palate is certainly a very different dining concept. The theme is of course animation and as soon as you approach the restaurant you will see that the emphasis is on bold design. As you arrive in the restaurant you will notice that almost everything is black and white. Even the corridor as you approach the restaurant is in bold black and white design with just one splash of color for the Animator’s Palate sign. The tables, chairs, walls, even the waiter’s outfits are in black and white.

Looks at the walls and you will see drawings of your favorite movies. Again, no color at the moment, but you will recognize many of the great Disney movies such as Beauty and the Beast, The LIttle Mermaid, Toy Story. You will see many of your favorites here.

As the dinner progresses you will start to notice changes on the walls. Sudden flashes of color will appear and the pictures on the wall start to come to life. To animate of course. The pictures and the room becomes filled with color.

At some point after the entrees are served you may notice that your wait staff will be absent for a little while. The reason for this soon becomes clear. The music starts and Mickey arrives! His famous music from the Fantasmic! show plays and he dances around there room. The waiters have all changed into their colorful vests (well they have turned them inside out to show the colors which have been there all the time).

They certainly know how to put on a show in Animator’s Palate and this makes it most guests favorite dining rotation. Be aware that if you are in the restaurant for 2 nights for dinner the show will only be shown on the first night of your rotation there.

The food style is described as Pacific Rim. To be honest I am not quite sure if that really works or if the food is consistent with that theme, but the food is good and there is plenty of choice. For our latest Disney Wonder cruise we particularly liked the Mushroom Risotto appetizer and the Ahi Tuna. From the entree selection my husband liked the Chicken but my daughter and I were rather disappointed with the Black Bean Chipotle Cakes.

Desserts for us are always great because we have gluten allergies and the chefs on the Disney ships always do an excellent job of making special desserts. The kids usually just want ice cream! For those without special dietary needs there is a great dessert menu which includes Chocolate Cake, Cheesecake, and Apple Crumble.

Parrot Cay

This is definitely the most casual of the Disney Wonder restaurants. And really the least interesting too. On our last cruise we dined in Parrot Cay 3 times and really this would not be our preference. Of course we didn’t mind too much as we had our favorite server Dinesh but really if I could choose then this would be the restaurant I would rather dine at less times on the rotation.

The theme is, you guessed it, tropical. Lots of bright colors and pictures of parrots! You do tend to spend quite a bit of time in here other than dinner too as the first lunch on board is served here, and throughout the cruise there is often breakfast and lunch.

The menu is inspired by Caribbean cuisine. The baked crab dip appetizer is good, as is the Asparagus Soup. For an entree there is a good selection including a very tasty Pan Seared Grouper, a Braised Pork Chop and for the vegetarians Pearl Barley Cakes.

Desserts include Creme Brûlée, Lemon Meringue Pie and French Toast Banana Bread.

Triton’s Restaurant

The beautiful mural on the wall of Disney Wonder's Triton's Restaurant

Triton’s is the most elegantly designed Disney Wonder restaurant. It is located on Deck 3 mid ship and like all of the Wonder restaurants seats approximately 462 guests. Triton’s serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The beautiful statue of Ariel which stands outside the restaurant is one of the first things that you will see when you board the DIsney Wonder. She watches over the atrium and of course it is only fitting that she is outside the restaurant which is named after her father in The Little Mermaid.

The overall decor is the most subtle and elegant of the Disney Wonder restaurants. The design is reminiscent of a golden art deco age of ocean liners. Guests are meant to feel that they are in a beautiful ballroom with chandeliers and elegant decor. There is a huge mural depicting Ariel, Triton and Founder at the back of the room.

Whilst the atmosphere is elegant it also feels like it is the most crowded of the Disney Wonder restaurants. The tables can feel rather close together and sometimes the servers seem to have trouble working their way around the tight spaces. But Triton’s has the best food of all of the Disney Wonder rotational dining restaurants. The cuisine is described as American and French which of course covers quite a lot of ground!

The Triton’s menu definitely does have a French influence. On the appetizer menu you will find escargot, duck confit and French onion soup. Entrees include lamb shank, three cheese lobster macaroni, seared sea bass and beef tenderloin. The French influence can also be seen in the desserts which include creme brûlée, grand mariner soufflé and brioche and pannetone pudding.

In additional to the 3 Disney Wonder rotational dining restaurants there is also Palo the adult only dining experience. This is booked separately and has a cover charge for brunch, high tea and dinner.

Of all of the Disney Wonder restaurants my favorite has to be Triton’s. Of all the many times that we have dined there I just feel that the choice and standard of the food is the best.

Which is your favorite Disney Wonder restaurant? Leave me a comment below.

Disney Mediterranean Cruise 2013

What Makes a Disney Cruise So Special?

What makes a Disney cruise such an amazing experience? My family and I have just returned from a magical 7 night Mexican Riviera cruise on the Disney Wonder. We have sailed many times with Disney cruises and have also sailed with a number of other cruise lines. Nothing even comes close to the Disney cruise experience compared with the other cruise lines we have tried. For us the first choice is always Disney. Why?

I gave a lot of thought to the question of what makes a Disney cruise so special. We particularly enjoy the Disney Wonder as we like the size of the ship. The entertainment is amazing, the kids programs are the best at sea, the staterooms are very well designed, and of course it is just, well, it’s Disney!

But of course I really don’t have to think too hard about why the Disney cruise experience is the best. Really for us it is the crew. The people who are there to make sure you have the best cruise experience. Of course the ship is beautiful, the entertainment wonderful, but the thing which really brings the magic to life are the people who work so hard to make the cruise experience truly special.

One of those people is our very favorite server. Dinesh from India. We met him on the Disney Wonder last year and very much hoped that he would be there for us on this cruise. In fact for my 10 year old son this was the most important aspect of the cruise. Forget the shows, the kids club and the water slide – the thing that he was most wishing for was that he would see Dinesh!

I had requested that he be our server months ahead of time. As a travel agent I do this all the time as guests often want to request a particular server. I even double checked as this was so important to us all. As soon as we checked in and I saw the table number on the card I thought that something was wrong. It wasn’t anywhere near the one we had last time and I guessed that a mistake had been made.

As soon as we boarded we went to Parrot Cay for a buffet lunch. We were so happy when we saw Dinesh there. Not so happy when we realized that a mistake had been made and that he was not our server in the dining room. Happily he sorted it out for us and we changed our dining assignment so that he could be our server again. It didn’t even matter that we had to change from the very coveted Main Seating to the later one as it was more important to us all that we were at his table.

For me people like Dinesh are what makes the Disney cruise line the best in the world. You just know that he genuinely wants to help you get the most our of your experience. He remembered that we like curry so made sure that we got some amazing dishes every day. He made sure that my very picky 5 year old always got the exact type of bread that he wanted. He got ginger for my daughter’s tea as she was not feeling well. There were so many things that he did above and beyond what he needed to do. He really looked after us and made us feel very special.

Cliche though it may sound he and other Disney crew members just make you feel at home. You feel so welcome. The customer service we experience in daily life is so often just not good. You can often tell people don’t really enjoy their jobs. The waiter who looks annoyed when you ask for something, the person on the phone who is irritated and reading off a script, the hotel receptionist who just wants to get back to talking to her friend. The concept of great service is now the exception rather than the rule.

Thankfully Disney cruise lines gets service right. From the stateroom attendants who always greet you with a smile, to the highest quality entertainers at sea, to the bar staff, the restaurant servers, the kids counsellors and every other member of the almost 1,000 crew at sea. They make you feel welcome. That is the Disney difference.

To lessen the sadness of leaving a Disney cruise I always have to book another one before I leave the ship. We will be back on the Disney Wonder later this year. And I am calling this morning to make sure that we get our favorite Disney crew member in the dining room. Let’s just hope that the request gets communicated to the ship this time. See you later this year Dinesh!

Top 10 Things to do on a Disney Cruise for Adults

Is a Disney cruise for adults? When you think of a Disney cruise you may first think about how much there is to do on board for children. But what you may not realize is just how many activities and things to do there are for adults. Whether you want to sit back and relax, watch an amazing show, or discover some of the fun activities on board there is always something for the adults to do on a Disney cruise.

Adult Exclusive Dining on a Disney Cruise

All of the Disney ships have restaurants which are exclusively for the grown ups. The Disney Wonder, Magic, Dream and Fantasy have Palo.

This beautiful restaurant serving Italian style cuisine is located on Deck 10 of the Wonder and Magic, and Deck 12 of the Fantasy and the Dream. Dinner, brunch and high tea is offered here. My particular favorite is the champagne buffet branch. There is a very good selection of cold buffet items and you can also order hot entrees cooked to order.

The charge for Palo is $20 per person for brunch and dinner. HIgh tea is $10 per person.

The Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream also have the Remy restaurant available for adults. The cuisine here is French inspired. The setting is just beautiful. The Art Nouveau inspired interior is the perfect place for a romantic meal. At $75 per person this is one of the pricier dining experiences at sea but most feel that it is more than worth it.

The Disney Cruise Spa

You will find a complete selection of spa services on board every Disney cruise. For the Disney Wonder and Magic it is the Vista Spa, and for the Disney Fantasy and Dream it is the Senses Spa.

The Spa offers massages, skin treatments, aromatherapy, pedicures, manicures and hairstyling.

Serenity Beach Castaway Cay

Many of the Disney cruises have a port stop at Disney’s private island Castaway Cay. Many guests say that this is one of the top highlights of their Disney cruise. If you want some quiet time away from the kids then head to the adult only Serenity Beach. This is a remarkably quiet haven which is a short tram ride away from the family beach. There is a bar and buffet available and plenty of loungers so you can soak up the sun.

For the absolute ultimate in luxury why not treat yourself to a Cabana Massage on Castaway Cay? Rates start at $147 for a 50 minute massage.

The Disney Quiet Cove Pool

There is a place where you can hide away from all the kids on board a Disney cruise – the Quiet Cove Pool. Whilst some cruise lines I have experienced have not been that great at truly providing a pool area just for the adults, Disney really does keep this space clear of the younger ones. Perhaps it is because there is so much for the children to do on a Disney cruise they really don’t want to venture where the adults hang out!

Be Like a Kid!

For anyone who knows Disney World and Disney cruises well you know that part of the appeal is being able to get in touch with your childlike side! Disney gives you the chance to recapture your youth (no not with the treatments in the spa) by letting you act like a big kid if that is what you want to do.

You can get up close and personal with Mickey Mouse, a Disney Princess or even Jack Sparrow. Ride the Aqua Duck on the Disney Fantasy or Dream. Take part in one of the great family activities, or practice to be the next American Idol in karaoke.

Be Active

All of the Disney cruise ships have a great fitness facility which are for the over 18s only. Each ship has a large gym with plenty of cardio and weight machines. There is also a good selection of classes particularly for early morning yoga or pilates so that you can start the day off well. The gym on the Disney Wonder and Magic is not that big but it doesn’t tend to get that crowded. If you want some help with your fitness regime then there are Personal Trainers available for a fee.

Another great feature of the Disney ships is the jogging track. This is a great opportunity to keep or even start your fitness program.

Disney Cruise Adult Enrichment Classes

The most popular of these are The Art of Entertaining and Stem to Stem Wine Tasting. Every day there are different classes which are adults, most of which do have a small charge of around $10 to $12 per person. The Art of Entertaining features a Disney chef preparing a dish from one of the Walt Disney World resorts or Disney cruises. There are also plenty of wine tasting, tequila and martini tasting classes on board.

Walt Disney World Entertainment

The shows in the Walt Disney Theatre are the best at sea. Disney certainly knows how to put on a show. There are some shows just for adults late at night but the over 18s will most definitely enjoy the Disney classic shows such at The Golden Mickeys, Toy Story The Musical and Disney Villains.

The Buena Vista Theatre shows movies throughout the day. From movie premiers to Disney classics there is something which will appeal to all ages.

The Cove Cafe

This is another quiet haven for grown ups on the Disney ships. It is located on Deck 9 on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, and on Deck 11 on the Disney Fantasy and Dream. Here you can relax in the comfortable chairs, read one of the magazines, enjoy a quiet conversation, and enjoy a drink from the menu of specialty coffee, tea, wines, and snacks. This is one of my favorite places on the Disney ships as it just has a very relaxing atmosphere where you can truly get away from it all!

Disney Cruise Entertainment Districts

Each Disney ship has an entire deck devoted to adult bars and lounges. In the day time this area is sometimes used for family activities, but after 9pm this is off limits to all but the over 18s.

On Disney Wonder the area is Route 66, on Disney Magic it is Beat Street, on the Fantasy it is The District.

There are bars and lounges to suit every mood and taste. As you would expect from Disney each space has it’s own theme and ambience.

There are so many things to keep the adults happy on a Disney cruise. The kids are not the only ones who will be asking when their next cruise is!

Disney Transatlantic Cruise 2013

The Disney Magic will sail transatlantic on it’s way to and back from Barcelona in 2013. The Disney Magic cruise ship will sail on 18th May 2013 from Galveston on it’s first transatlantic voyage for 2 years. It is what is known as a repositioning cruise as of course it is doing exactly that – moving to it’s 2013 summer home port of Barcelona ready for a great selection of cruises to Europe.

Here is the itinerary for the Disney Magic Eastern Transatlantic Cruise:

Saturday Galveston, Texas
Sunday At Sea
Monday At Sea
Tuesday Castaway Cay
Wednesday At Sea
Thursday At Sea
Friday At Sea
Saturday At Sea
Saturday At Sea
Sunday At Sea
Monday At Sea
Tuesday Funchal, Madeira
Wednesday At Sea
Thursday Gibraltar
Friday At Sea
Saturday Barcelona, Spain

The dates and ports of call for the return sailing have not yet been announced but we will keep you posted as soon as they are.

The first thing that you will notice of course when you look at the itinerary is that there are a lot of days at sea. For some this will be bliss for others this will be a big disadvantage.

Repositioning and transatlantic cruises do tend to be lower priced when compared to other cruises by Disney simply because the demand is less. The cruise is relatively long at 14 nights. Again, for some this is a big advantage but many guests simply don’t have the time to devote to such a long voyage. But if you do then this could be a great opportunity to sail on a Disney cruise for a great rate.

The Disney Magic does have some interesting port stops on it’s transatlantic sailing. Of course one of the most popular will be to Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island. Guests consistently say that Castaway Cay is their very favorite port stop.

Funchal is a very popular port of call for transatlantic cruises. Funchal is the capital city of the small Portuguese island of Madeira. Just 35 miles long and 13 miles wide at it’s widest, Madeira is exceptionally beautiful and is particularly known for it’s flowers and stunning scenery.

Gibraltar is another very popular port stop for cruise ships. Gibraltar is a very British part of the Mediterranean. It is a British territory located at the entrance to the Mediterranean. It is fascinating to sail through the Strait of Gibraltar as you can see Europe on one side and Africa the other.

Barcelona is the final port of call for the Disney Magic Transatlantic cruise. The port of Barcelona will be Disney Magic’s home for the summer when it sails one of 3 different European cruise itineraries. Barcelona is an amazing city. There are many different cruise excursions to enjoy and if you have some time it would be a great idea to extend your stay in the city once you have disembarked from the Magic. Or of course you could always stay on board and sail on one of the Mediterranean cruises!
