Disney Princess Storybook Dining

Disney Princess Storybook Dining is the place to go if you want to be assured that you will dine with a Princess at Walt Disney World. The Disney Princess Storybook Dining experience is available at Restaurant Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in the Norway Pavilion at Epcot. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is available.

What is the Princess Storybook Dining Experience?

This is best character meal at Disney World if you are looking to meet the most Disney Princesses. Of course you have Cinderella’s Royal Table in Magic Kingdom but the Princess Storybook Dining has the most Princesses gathered in one restaurant!

Which Princesses will be there? As with all Disney World Character Dining everything is subject to change and you cannot guaratee a particular Princess will be there. But Princess Aurora, Belle, Ariel, Princess Jasmine and Snow White may be there. Mary Poppins also often makes an appearance – although I can never quite understand what qualifies her to be amongst the Princesses! This is a rare opportunity to see Ariel in her ballgown. Of course it would be a little difficult if she wasn’t in her human form!

During the meal the Princesses visit you at your table. There is plenty of opportunity to take pictures and get their autograph.

Will you see Cinderella? She does sometimes appear but it is pretty rare. If you want to see Cinderella then try and get one of those very difficult to snag reservations at Cinderella’s Royal Table or go for dinner at 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian for Cinderella’s Gala Feast.

Every Princess Dining Experience includes a picture package. A souvenir picture will be taken of your party in the restaurant lobby. The photo packet has four 4×6 prints, one 6×8 print, and a 6×8 photo of the castle presented in a Cinderella themed folder. (Parties of 1-6 get one photo packet, parties of 7-11 get two, parties of 12-15 get three and parties of 16 or more get six photo packages.

The Princess Storybook Dining Akershus Restaurant

Akershus is located in the Norway Pavilion of Epcot World Showcase. It is an amazingly themed recreation of a 14th century Norwiegan castle. High ceilings with huge wooden beams, rustic chandeliers, stained glass windows and atmospheric lighting make this a fitting venue for the Disney Princesses.

Disney Princess Once Upon a Time Breakfast

The breakfast costs $39.40 for adults and $23.42 for children aged 3 to 9. It is served from 8.30 am to 11.00 am.

The breakfast is served family style which means that it is brought pre plated to your table. It is all you care to eat so you can ask for more! The breakfast includes the usual favorites: Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Bacon, Cheese Danish, Fresh Fruit, Breakfast Breads including Cinnamon Rolls, Potato Casserole. Juice and Coffee refils are also included. There is also a healthier option of Yoghurt and Museli.

Princess Storybook Lunch

The price for the Lunch is $41.53 for adult and $24.99 for children aged 3 to 9. This includes tax but not gratuity. You can also use a Dining Credit if you are on the Disney Dining Plan.

The Lunch is both selections from the cold buffet table and made to order hot entrees. The buffet table is called ‘A Taste of Norway’. There is a small buffet table which includes a good selection of salads, meats, cheese, seafood and breads. This is a little different from the usual offerings of a cold buffet and it is good for those who are prepared to try something out of the ordinary. Picky eaters of all ages may find a bit of a problem here!

Guests also choose from a menu of hot entrees. These include an excellent Salmon Burger, Venison Sausage Sandwich, Chicken Sandwich, Mushroom Stuffed Pasta. If you want to try a Norweigan dish then Traditional Kjottkake is available. This is ground beef and pork dumplings with lingonberry sauce.

There is also a children’s menu. This includes cheese pizza, hot dogs and grilled chicken breast.

The lunch includes free tea, coffee and non alcoholic drinks. There is also a list of cocktails with a Norweigan theme all for around $10.

Princess Storybook Dinner

This is the same style as the lunch but it does have different entree choices. The cost is $46.85 for adults and $25.55 for children aged 3 to 9.

Guests can choose from the Taste of Norway buffet table. Entrees include Mustard Glazed Seared Salmon, Sauteed Chicken Breast, Traditional Kjottkake, Mahi Mahi, and Grilled Pork Chop.

Is Princess Storybook Dining Worth It?
How is the food in the Princess Storybook Dining restaurant? Opinions vary of course but most guests do enjoy it even though it is rather different to the usual buffet fare offered at Disney character dining restaurants. For those of us who remember the old Akershus before the Princesses arrive then I would say that the quality went down as soon as the royals took over. And of course the price went up.

So unless you want to pay the price to see the Princesses then this really is not a great choice anymore. But for guests who want to find one of the best places to meet the Disney Princesses then this has to be a winner. If you have picky eaters then choose the breakfast as this has the usual conventional choices, and of course is lower priced too.

Non alcoholic beverages are included in the price of the buffet. The price of the Chef Mickey character buffet for adults is $35.99 and $17.99 for children aged 3 to 9. Tax and Gratuity are not included. This is also one dining credit if you are on the Disney Dining Plan.

Most Disney restaurants now operate seasonal pricing so during Holidays and busy times there may be a price difference.

Will your family enjoy Chef Mickey’s? It is one of the most popular dining experiences and it is a great place to see your Disney characters. It is conveniently located in the Contemporary Resort so you can even visit on a day when you don’t want to use a theme park entrance ticket but still be a part of the Disney magic. It is very popular (and can be pretty loud). Be aware that it is likely there will be whole lot of young children there so don’t go to Chef Mickey’s expecting a quite, relaxing meal! But if you want good quality buffet food with some of the most popular characters in Disney World then Chef Mickeys is a great option!

Disney World Character Dining

Are you trying to decide if Disney World Character Dining is for you? A great tradition of a Disney World vacation is to dine with the characters. There are plenty of different Disney restaurants to choose from. This guide will show you which restaurants offer character dining, give you an overview of the menus and help you decide is Disney World Character Dining is the best option for you and your family.

Disney World Character Dining Tips

Disney character dining is very popular. As soon as you have decided that this is what you want to do then you should make Advance Dining Reservations either online at Disney Dining Reservations or call 407 WDW DINE. Reservations can be made up to 180 days ahead. Walt Disney World Resort guests do have an advantage because they can start to book 180 days ahead for the whole of their vacation time (for up to 10 days).

Some restaurants will need a credit card guarantee. Make sure that you note this when you make your Advance Dining Reservations and if you wish to cancel that you do so in the time stated. Or your card will be charged whether you dine or not.

What happens at a character meal? Most, although not all, of the meals are buffets. The characters will visit each table in turn and there will be a chance to take photos and get their autograph.

The Disney characters are excellent at interacting with the guests. They are very well aware that some children may be rather overwhelmed by seeing even their favorite character in life size form! So they will get the message if your child really does not want to come out from underneath the table, but they will also do their very best to coax them out!

For each Disney restaurant there will be a list of characters who are expected to appear. This is just a guide and not a guarantee. Remember even Cinderella needs a rest sometimes.

Where are the Disney World Character Dining locations?

Cinderella’s Royal Table

This is by far the most popular restaurant in the whole of Walt Disney World. The reason? It is located inside Cinderella’s Castle. To get a reservation here you really do have to plan ahead and book absolutely as soon as you possibly can.

Breakfast is served at Cinderella’s Royal Table from 8.00am to 11.15am every day. The price is $44.80 for adults and $29.86 for children aged 3 to 9. The food is all you care to eat which is brought plated to your table. The selection includes, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, French toast, yoghurt, granola and fresh fruit. Beverage choices include coffee, tea, juice, soda and milk.

As part of the all inclusive price you will receive a photo package which includes photos of your party with the characters.

As will all character dining you are never sure which characters will appear but usually you will see Cinderella, Fairy Godmother, Aurora, Snow White and Belle.

Lunch is priced at $48.54 for adults and $31.11 for children A photo package is included and of course you can buy extra photos if you wish to add to these.

Guests choose from a selection of Entrees including Pork Tenderloin, Major Domo’s Favorite Pie and Pasta Al Pomodoro. There is a children’s selection which of Chicken Strips, Pretzel Dogs and Bakes Pasta Marinara.

The desserts are a choice of No Sugar Sorbet, Chocolate Cream Cheese Buckle and Castle Made Rice Pudding.

Dinner with Cinderella is $54.76 for adults and $33.60 for children aged 3 to 9. Again a photo package is included in the price.

You choose an appetizer, entree and dessert. The appetizer selection is not very inspiring with a choice of Mixed Green Salad, Rock Shrimp Cocktail, Cheese Board or Soup. Entrees include Pork Chop, Duck Confit, Fried Chicken, Beef Tenderloin or Vegetarian Cassoulet.

Opinions are very divided on whether Cinderella’s Royal Table is it worth it or not. If you want the location then this really can’t be beaten. But the food is not the best in Walt Disney World – you are paying a premium for the location and experience.

The Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom

Crystal Palace is located at the end of Main Street close to Cinderella’s Castle. And in my opinion serves much better food, certainly for a much better price. The characters are Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore.

Breakfast is served between 8.30am and 10.30am. This is an all you can eat buffet with lots of selections. The menu items do change regularly but you will always find the usual favorites of scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, fruit and pastries. The cost of this character breakfast is $22.99 for adults and $12.99 for children aged 3 to 9. Tax and gratuity are extra.

Lunch is $24.99 for adults and $13.99 for children not including tax and gratuity. This is an all you can eat buffet with lots of choice. A particular favorite of mine is the Fruit and Vegetable Tofu Curry. To finish off there is plenty of choice of desserts. Why not try the Bread and Butter Pudding with Bailey’s Irish Cream Sauce?

Dinner also has a very good buffet selection including Peel and Eat Shrimp, Tropical Slaw, Prime Rib, Roasted Turkey, Chicken Fingers, Roasted Pork and Cheese Pizza. Favorite desserts include Key Lime Pie, Tiramisu and Double Chocolate Brownies.

This is one of my favorite choices when dining in Magic Kingdom.

Princess Storybook Dining

Once upon a time the Akershus restaurant in the Norway Pavilion in Epcot was one of my favorite Disney dining experiences. However that has all changed! Some years ago the restaurant was taken over by the Disney Princesses. Whilst it is a great chance to meet the Princesses in my opinion it is probably the worst buffet food in the whole of Walt Disney World.

Having said that it is a great place to go if you have Disney Princess fans in your party. Akershus Royal Banquet Hall serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. As part of the price you pay for the meal you receive a photo package.

This is a good place to see the Princesses but if you want to have a better chance of seeing Cinderella then Cinderella’s Royal Table or dinner at 1900 Park Fare are better bets. A selection of Disney Princesses appear at each Storybook meal and include Ariel, Belle, Snow White, Mulan and sometimes Mary Poppins (not sure that she counts as a Disney Princess)!

Breakfast is $39.40 for adults and $23.42 for children aged 3 to 9. Breakfast is served family style and includes fruit, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, potato casserole, biscuits and cinnamon rolls.

Lunch pricing is $41.53 for adults and $24.49 for children aged 3 to 9. There is a small buffet table with a selection of salads, seafood, meat and cheese. Your can choose an entree from the menu. This includes such items as Salmon Burger, Venison Sausage Sandwich, and Mushroom Stuffed Pasta. There is a children’s selection too which includes pizza and hot dogs. There is a dessert plate which is brought to the table with a selection of desserts.

Dinner is the same menu as lunch and is priced at $46.85 for adults and $25.55 for children aged 3 to 9.

1900 Park Fare

In my opinion 1900 Park Fare has the best food of all the Disney character dining choices. This restaurant is located in the Disney World Grand Florida Resort.

The Supercalifragilistic Breakfast is attended by Mary Poppins, Alice and The Mad Hatter. Even though the Mad Hatter has to be the most annoying person to see at breakfast this character meal is a real treat. There is a large and varied selection on the buffet including strawberry and apple turnovers, pecan sticky bun, Challah bread, omelets, bacon, apple cobbler and French toast.

Breakfast is priced at $22.36 for adults and $12.77 for adults plus tax and gratuity.

Dinner is served from 4.30pm to 8.30pm and costs $35.99 for adults and $17.99 for children plus tax and gratuity. This is the best place to see Cinderella (apart from Cinderella’s Royal Table). There is a lot of choice for the dinner buffet which includes, prime rib, turkey, salmon with butter sauce, pork loin and mussels.

My Disney Girl’s Perfectly Princess Tea

This character dining experience is also located in the Grand Floridian Resort. This is very much a whole experience rather than being just about the food as this is a wonderful, but expensive, chance to go to a very special tea party with Princess Aurora. The $250 price tag includes a collectable doll, a tiara, bracelet, a scrapbook , a rose and a certificate. The $250 includes admission for one child and one adult. Addtional adult guests are $100 and a child is $150. Tax is not included.

Guests also have tea including sandwiches, cheese briquettes, lavosh crackers and fruit. For the children there is juice, fruit, and sandwiches.

Lilo and Stitch Best Friends Character Breakfast

Another chance to have a character dining experience without park admission. This Character Breakfast is at the Polynesian Resort Disney World Florida..

Breakfast is priced at $20.99 for adults and $11.99 for children aged 3 to 9. Mikey, Pluto, Lilo and Stitch are in attendance for breakfast. There is a limited choice of breakfast items and it is served family style.

Garden Grove Cafe

This is one of the lesser known character breakfasts and there are character appearances only on Saturday and Sundays in the Walt Disney World Swan hotel. The price is $20.99 for adults and $12.99 for children. There is a good selection of breakfast items. Unusually for a Disney character breakfast there is no advance reservation system.

Don’t overlook this breakfast venue, even when the characters aren’t there. It is usually quieter and has a very high quality selection of items The only downside is the slightly out of the way location in the outer reaches of the Epcot resort area.

Should You Go For A Disney Character Meal?

Really it is one of those things which you absolutely have to do at least once. Take some time to pick the experience which you think you will enjoy. They really are quite different from each other both in terms of food and experience, but there is something to please everyone.

Cinderella’s Royal Table – Is It Worth It?

Want a Place at Cinderella's Royal Table?
Have you ever wondered what Cinderella’s Royal Table restaurant is really like? Located inside Disney’s Magic Kingdom castle it is the most popular restaurant in the whole of Walt Disney World. But does it really deserve to be that popular?

Anyone who has tried to make Advance Dining Reservations for Cinderella’s Royal Table will know that sometimes it feels as though you have embarked on Mission Impossible! Unless you call right at the first minute of the first day you can make ADRs (90 days ahead for everyone, and up to 100 days ahead for Disney resort guests) then you will most likely be told that there are no tables left. So we know it is very popular!

What if you don’t manage to get Advance Dining Reservations for Cinderella’s Royal Table. Try again. Sometimes there are cancellations and you will strike it lucky.

Do remember though that there is a 24 hour cancellation policy. When you make your ADRs you will be asked for your credit card details – and they will be charged unless you cancel within the 24 hours before you are set to dine.

But does the Cinderella dining experience live up to the expectation? Of course it gives you a chance to actually get inside Cinderella’s Castle. And for this alone it is worth it for many Disney World visitors. The interior of the restaurant is very well done. Just as you would expect the inside of the castle to look – lots of stained glass, stone work and wood. It is also much smaller than most people imagine – another reason why it is so difficult to get in!

It is pretty pricey. At $42.99 for dinner for adults with tax and gratuity as extra this is not an inexpensive dining option.

Cinderella’s Royal Table restaurant is what is known as a photo package experience. What does this mean? The price of the meal also includes a photo with one of the characters.

Many people love the fact that a photo is included with the meal. The photo package is four 4×6 prints and one 6×8 print of your photo, as well as one 6×8 print of Cinderella Castle in a Cinderella photo holder. Each party of 1 to 4 guests will get one photo package,5 to 8 guests will receive two packages.

For me and for many other guests though the feeling is that it would be better if the price was lower and the photograph was not included. Personally I do not like to have to wait in line to have a picture taken (and this is what often happens). This may be because I have hundreds of pictures already of myself and my family with Disney characters! But I would prefer to be able to skip this part.

Disney Princess Cinderella

The time with the characters is good for a Disney character dining experience. The restaurant is small so when I have been there we have had plenty of time with the characters. Who will be there? As with all Disney character dining restaurants the list can, and does, change so don’t promise your little ones (or yourself) a special character. But the ones you are likely to find are Cinderella, The Fairy Godmother, Princess Belle, Princess Aurora and Snow White.

So what is the food like at Cinderella’s Royal Table? Not great but not bad either. For that price I would expect a higher standard. But with this Disney restaurant you are going there for the experience of dining in Cinderella’s Castle. The food is fine, but nothing to get that excited about. There are plenty of choices including a Children’s menu. Some guests do report feeling rushed but I have never really found this to be so.

So is Cinderella’s Royal Table really worth it? I would certainly say it is somewhere you should experience at least once. The unique quality of being located inside Cinderella’s Castle really is a lot of fun.

Have an expectation that the food will be fine but nothing that special. If you want to dine with Cinderella and have great food then try out dinner at 1900 Park Fare in Disney’s Grand Floridian. Overall Cinderella’s Royal Table is a good Disney experience though – if you can get in then you should give it a try.

Disney World Character Dining

Want to have a meal with Mickey Mouse or dine with a Disney Princess? Well there are many Disney character dining choices at Disney World.

But how do you choose which Disney World character dining experience is for you? One of the most popular Disney dining experiences is Cinderella’s Royal Table. And many of the Disney guides will tell you just how difficult it is to get a table at this Disney World restaurant. Why is Cinderella’s Royal Table so popular? Because it is right inside Disney World’s Cinderella Castle and of course you meet the Princess herself – but it has to be said only briefly! So if you want to dine in the Disney World castle be sure to make Advance Dining Reservations way ahead of time.

There are many other Disney character dining choices both inside the theme parks and also in the Disney hotels. Buffet dining is the most popular type of dining for a character meal but some meals are also served ‘family style’ meaning that a selection of food is brought to your table.

So how do you decide which Disney World character dining experience to choose? Well, firstly ask yourself if there is any particular character that you would like to meet. Would you prefer to dine with a Disney Princess? Or perhaps you want to spend more time with Mickey Mouse, or Winnie the Pooh.
Then think about whether you would prefer to dine inside the theme park or if dining in a Disney World hotel would be a better use of your time. Then think about your budget. Breakfast is usually the best deal. With buffet breakfast style dining you usually skip lunch so in terms of value you may want to factor this in to your Disney dining choice.

What about the quality of the food? Well we are not talking gourmet dining here but the quality at some of the restaurants is pretty high. One of my own favorites is the buffets at 1900 Park Fayre at the Grand Floridian. Whether it is breakfast with Winnie the Pooh and Friends or dinner with Cinderella the food here is excellent. And a great value.

Will your child love the Disney character meal? Well you have to think about how they are going to react to the characters. Generally it is much easier to predict a child’s reaction to a Disney Princess than it is to think how they will react to a less ‘life like’ character such as Winnie the Pooh. Suddenly being confronted with a large ( and some of them seem huge to a small child) Disney character may be too much for your younger child. But the Disney characters are brilliant. They can win over all but the most reluctant of kids, and they know exactly when to walk away when it just isn’t going to work.

Disney World character dining really does bring the magic of Disney right into your vacation. If you would like even more information including reviews, prices and a comprehensive guide to all the Disney World character dining experiences then explore my Disney World Character Dining Guide
