However, you need to be a little more creative when looking for a Disney World restaurant which will keep the boys entertained.
Best Disney World Restaurants For Boys
Let’s admit it. Elsa and Anna are not that appealing to boys looking for somewhere to dine at Disney World.
As a mother of two boys, I have visited the parks many times with them and here we have picked out our favorites. Not a Disney Princess in sight!
T Rex Cafe at Disney Springs
The T Rex Cafe at Disney Springs is one of the very best Disney World Restaurants For Boys. Good food and dinosaurs. What more do you need if you are trying to find a great restaurant for boys in Disney World?
The T Rex Cafe is already a popular Disney World restaurant. It has the advantage that you do not need a Disney World park ticket to dine here.
The restaurant is located outside the Disney World Parks at Disney Springs. It is owned by the same company as Rainforest Cafe, but we like this one much better as the theme is just much more appealing for us.The menu is pretty standard fare with some very inventive names such as Brachiosaurus Bruschetta, Gigantosaurus Burger, and the Chocolate Extinction dessert. The food is fine, not great, but you are really here for the theme not fine dining.
Appetizers start at around $11. If you want to share you should get the Supersaurus Sampler which is enough for four people. The Mozzarella Sticks and the Gigantic Pretzel are also good appetizer choices.
The T Rex Cafe will suit most tastes. It unexpectedly features Kale on the menu, but traditionalists will also be pleased to see a Megasaurus Burger and Prehistoric Pasta.
A simple salad somehow tastes better when it is called a Jurassic Salad or maybe you want to try the Caesar-saurus Salad.
Entrees include New York Strip, Fire Roasted Rotisserie Chicken, Boneyard Buffet, Prehistoric Pasta Tar Pit Fried Shrimp.
The kid’s menu has a good selection which includes Grilled Chicken, Prehistoric Pop’n Shrimp, Cosmo’s Cheesy Macaroni, Mini Mes-O-Bones and Dexter Corn Dog.
Make sure that you leave some room for dessert. If you can’t face the Meteor Donut Bites or the Chocolate Extinction, the Sorbet Sampler is a lighter option.
This really is a must-see if you have dinosaur obsessed kids.
Of course, the food is overpriced, but where else do you get to dine with a T Rex and experience a meteor shower? This is a great choice of Disney World restaurant for boys.
Chef Mickeys at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
Chef Mickey’s is one of the most popular Disney character dining locations for a good reason – it is a whole lot of fun.
It’s loud, it is full of younger kids, but it is a great choice for character dining, particularly if you have boys. It’s a great Disney World Restaurants For Boys.
Chef Mickey’s is one of the few Disney World character dining locations which is not inside a Disney park.
It is located in Disney’s Contemporary Resort so it can be a good idea to go there if you do not want to use a Disney entrance ticket on that day.
If you are visiting Disney’s Magic Kingdom it is also easy to either walk or ride the monorail from the park.
Breakfast is served at Chef Mickey’s from 7 am to 11.30 am each day. It is a great chance to meet your Disney favorite characters Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Chip, and Dale.
Chef Mickey’s offers a brunch buffet too. This is a good option if you want to go to the Magic Kingdom early, but then take a break from the park at lunchtime.
You can easily exit and then go back to the Magic Kingdom on the monorail.
The Chef Mickey brunch hours are 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The restaurant also offers a buffet dinner menu from 5.00 p.m to 9.30 pm.

Disney World Chef Mickey’s Character Dinner at the Contemporary Resort
There is plenty of choice on the Chef Mickey buffet. Entrees include Chicken, Chorizo and Shrimp Etouffee with white rice, Baked Salmon Fillet with mango chili chutney and rice and Braised short-ribs with creamy polenta.
There is a large salad bar and there is always a selection of different soups. The Parmesan Mashed Potatoes and Mickey Cheese Ravioli and Marinara Sauce are always good.
You will find plenty of choice of desserts at the buffet table. Rice Krispy Treats and “Minnie’s” Chocolate & Red Velvet Cupcakes are our favorites.
Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Sanaa Restaurant
This is a must-do for anyone visiting Disney World in our book! This is in our Top 10 of favorite Disney restaurants in pretty much any category. The reason? The view.
Located at Kidani Village at the Disney Animal Kingdom Villas is described as serving African cuisine with Indian flavors. The setting is amazing – right on the edge of one of the Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge savannas.
There are not many places in the world where you can dine and look out of the window and see a giraffe. Take the opportunity to dine in this very unique setting when you visit Disney World.
The adults and the kids will love this highly unique dining experience in Walt Disney World.
As Sanaa is located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge this is another place where you do not have to buy a Disney park ticket to dine. This makes it a good bet on the first or last day of your stay if you don’t plan to visit the parks.
Some people are a little put off by the description of the cuisine as having African flavors. However, there is plenty to choose from which everyone will enjoy.
We suggest starting your meal with the Indian Bread Service which is large enough to share. You choose your favorite type of Bread and Dips which include Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, Mango Chutney, Tomato-Date Jam, Tamarind Chutney, and Coriander Chutney.
Entrees include the Fragrant Duck, Traditional Sosatie, Grilled New York Strip, Goan Seafood Curry, and Spicy Durban Shrimp.
The desserts are also very well worth sampling. You can choose African Triple Chocolate Mousse, Kenyan Coffee Petit Entrement, and Caramel N’dizi.
It is fine if your kids don’t like spicy food. There is a kids menu with all the usual options including Cheese Pizza, Chess Burger, Chicken Breast and Fish of the Day.
For dessert, the Savanna S’mores or the “Cookies and Milk” are popular options. They also have the Mickey Check Meals which include Fish of the Day, Grilled Chicken Breast and Shrimp.
We really can’t recommend this restaurant enough as a “must-do” Disney World experience. It really is unique.
Disney Sci-Fi Dine-In
This is such a fun place to dine. Particularly if you have boys who love cars. No, not the Disney Pixar Cars, but the theme of this restaurant is just a whole lot of fun.
This is one of the best restaurants located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
You step back into the 1950s when you eat at the Sci-Fi Dine-In. Lots of 1950s movie posters line the walls.
When you enter the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater you will notice 3 things. The convertible car tables. The huge movie screen. The dark.
As you would expect the menu at the Sci-Fi Dine-In is traditional American diner fare. At Disney World restaurant prices of course, but the theme is so much fun you probably won’t even notice.
OK, you will notice, but it softens the blow, and if you are on the Disney Dining Plan it really doesn’t matter does it?
The essential tip for the Disney Sci-Fi Dine-In is that there are picnic tables at the back which really aren’t that much fun. Be sure to ask the Cast Member for a seat at one of the car tables.
You really must experience Disney’s Sci-Fi Dine-In at least once on a visit to Disney World. It is one of the great Disney World Restaurants For Boys.
Here is our review:
The menu has something to keep everyone happy. The Sci-Fi Appetizer Sampler is a good one for sharing. It has Boneless Buffalo Tenders, Shrimp and Crab Fondue, Housemade Tortilla Chips, and Fried Dill Pickles with Blue Cheese and Horseradish Dipping Sauces.
The menu is what you would expect from a traditional dine-in restaurant. The Flame-broiled New York Strip is always a favorite and the Classic American Burger hits the spot. There are salads and sandwiches available too.
The Vegetarian Falafel Burger is also a great option.
The kids have their own menu. The kid’s meals include that old favorite Macaroni and Cheese, as well as Chicken Tenders and a Cheeseburger.
Desserts are difficult to resist, particularly the Warm Glazed Doughnut and the House-made Sci-Fi Candy Bar.
The Hot Fudge Sundae is a traditional favorite with Vanilla Ice Cream with Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream, and a Cherry. There is also a Vegan Cookie Shake made with nondairy milk and cookies topped with coconut whipped cream.
Tusker House at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
There aren’t that many Hidden Gems in Disney World anymore but Tusker House still seems to keep off many guests radar and we are not sure why. Tusker House.
It offers a character breakfast but we know it isn’t first on people’s wish list when they think of character dining locations. It is located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Donald and Daisy always appear and are often joined by Goofy and Mickey. The characters now appear at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The safari gear costumes make a really nice change and the characters often seem to have more time to spend with the kids here than at other locations. The Jungle Juice served at breakfast is very popular.
Breakfast includes the usual favorites. We particularly like the Potato and Leek Frittata, the Coconut-Sweet Potato Casserole and the Lemon-Poppyseed Bread.
The Warm Cinnamon Rolls are difficult to pass up and the Mini Chocolate Croissants are some of the best in the whole of Disney World.
The food at Lunch and Dinner is described as African and American. If you don’t like spicy food then there is plenty here to keep you and the kids happy.
The Peri-Peri Whole Salmon is delicious, particularly with the Mashed Potatoes and Sauteed Green Beans. You have to leave room for the Chocolate Turtle Brownies and the Passion Fruit Tart.
Disney’s Epcot Coral Reef Restaurant
The Epcot Coral Reef Restaurant is another unique place to dine in Walt Disney World which is a great place to take if you have boys in your family.
We visited Walt Disney World for years without really knowing where the Coral Reef is as it is hidden behind the Finding the Seas with Nemo ride in Epcot in Future World.
It is definitely worth the diversion if you want a spectacular view from a restaurant which will keep your boys entertained. The food is pretty good too.
The Coral Reef has a wall of 8 feet high windows that look onto the huge saltwater aquarium.
Diners can view not only 85 species of tropical fish but also the divers who often swim past the windows. To be honest the divers were more entertaining than the fish for my boys but you get the idea.
As you would expect, the specialty of the restaurant is seafood. However, there are plenty of other options on the menu if seafood is not your favorite thing.
Appetizers include Crispy-fried Shrimp, Caesar Salad, Seared Sea Scallops, and New England Clam Chowder.
The entree menu includes Grilled Yop Sirloin Steak, Seared Mahi Mahi, Oven-roasted Herb Chicken Breast, and Plant Cased Grilled Garden Vegetable Skewer.
The dessert menu is also very tempting with Key Lime Tart, Plant-based Baileys Almond and Jack Daniel’s Mousse and The Chocolate Wave among the choices.
As always, the Kids have a separate menu. This includes Mickey Check meals with Grilled Fish of the Day, Grilled Chicken with Sweet Soy Sauce and Pasta with Parmesan Cream Sauce.
Disney’s Boma at Animal Kingdom Resort
We know we have already talked about Sanaa but we just can’t miss out on another restaurant inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. When we asked out youngest son which was his favorite Walt Disney World restaurant Boma was his first choice.
This used to be a Disney hidden gem restaurant as it is a little out of the way in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort, but now it has definitely been discovered.

Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Boma
Whenever you visit Boma you should take the time to look around the Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort. You can walk out to the savannahs and view the animals even if you are not a guest of the hotel.
You can even see them at night as there is usually a Cast Member at the back of the swimming pool area to show you how to use the night vision glasses. It really is an experience not to be missed.
Boma is a buffet restaurant. The theme is decidedly African at dinner time and a ‘conventional’ breakfast buffet with all the usual favorites. No characters appear at the buffet.
There are almost 50 different items to choose from at the Boma breakfast. You will find a lot of the usual items such as an Omelet Bar, Breakfast Potatoes, Waffles, and Pancakes.
There are some more unusual things for you to try such as the Quinoa, Turkey Bobotie, Zebra Bread and African Fruit Fool. The fruit selection is also really good and includes Mango and Papaya.
The Boma dinner menu changes daily but my favorites are the Soups and Hummous dips. A particular favorite is Butternut Squash Soup. There is plenty of choice of hot entrees including carved meats and fresh salmon.
Make sure that you try some of the unusual side dishes such as the Plantain Crisps, Fufu, and the fabulous Spiced Sweet Potatoes.
Boma has lots of salads including Lentils and Hearts of Palm Salad, and Chick Pea and Edamame Salad.
If you have a picky eater don’t worry – they also serve the usual favorites of mac and cheese, fries and chicken nuggets.
The desserts are a particular favorite. Make sure you try the Zebra Domes.

Beaches and Cream Soda Shop
What do most boys like? Burgers and ice cream. You have them both here are Beaches and Cream located between the Disney Beach Club and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. This isn’t a table service restaurant, but we think it should be included.
It is one of the lesser-known places to eat as it is a little out of the way. However, it is easy to get to if you take the World Showcase exit out of Epcot and take the boat shuttle or walk to the hotel.
There is a good choice of entrees including Angus Beef Burger, Beaches Veggie Burger, Roasted Turkey on Challah and Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque. The Kids Menu includes Hot Dog, Cheeseburger and Mac and Cheese. Mickey Check meals are also available.
However, what most people come here for are the amazing desserts. Who can resist a place that has an ice cream dessert called The Kitchen Sink which is an enormous ice cream sundae served in a huge dish that looks like, yes you guessed it, a kitchen sink?
It’s $34 but if enough of you share then you can justify the cost – and there is no way you could eat it on your own!
If you think that you really can’t face The Kitchen Sink there are plenty of other choices. These include Classic Banana Split, Fudge Mud Slide, Milky Way Sundae, and Brownie À La Mode.
Currently, Beaches and Cream is closed for refurbishment. It is due to reopen in December 2019. Plans have not been released but we predict that there will be some considerable expansion. This is a popular place to eat and more seating would be very welcome.
The Crystal Palace at Disney’s Magic Kingdom
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at The Crystal Palace are all buffet-style meals.
Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet are featured so it makes it a good choice for younger boys. The Crystal Palace is conveniently located at the end of Main Street in the Magic Kingdom.
We like to go at least once during our stay and usually pick breakfast as it is the least costly option.
The Crystal Palace is a beautiful setting but it is loud. In fact, it is almost too loud as there are a lot of younger children here but the interaction with the characters is in our opinion one of the best available. They seem to have a bit more time here than at other character meals.
It is certainly very high energy here.
The Crystal Palace breakfast includes everything that you would expect. There is an Omelette Station and a buffet selection of Breakfast Meats, Potatoes, Cereal, Waffles and Pancakes.
Dinner and lunch have a good choice of options. The choices aren’t as extensive as some of the other Disney character buffets, but you are sure to find something that you like.
As always, there is a special low buffet table with kids’ favorites so that they can reach and pick what they want.
Disney’s Be Our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom
The Be Our Guest restaurant is one of the most ridiculously popular venues in the whole of Walt Disney World. But it is worth giving it a try to get a reservation here. You may not succeed but at least you will know that you tried!
Even though you would think this is a Disney Princess dominated venue, in fact, Belle does not appear. The Beast does though.
We have eaten here at both lunch and dinner and have to say that dinner is better but almost impossible to get a reservation.
The setting is spectacular. Be Our Guest is the only ‘counter service’ restaurant we recommend here. It is counter service for breakfast and lunch and table service for dinner. It has an unusual concept of how you get your food so in some ways just doesn’t feel like counter service.
Your order on interactive screens and the food is then brought to your table. You can order your lunch online within 30 days of your lunch reservation. If you don’t do this, you use the interactive screens to order, just as you do at breakfast.
If you don’t have a reservation then it may still be worth standing in line for breakfast or lunch. Ask the Cast Member at the end of the line what the wait is and see if you can stand the wait. If you can then we think you will enjoy the experience.
The dinner experience is just like any other Disney dining restaurant experience – you are seated at a table and you order from the menu.
The Be Our Guest breakfast menu is a fixed price for all entrees. An assortment of breakfast pastries will be brought to the table for all of you to share. Entree choices include Vegetable Quiche, Croque Madame, Scrambled Egg Whites, and Croissant Doughnut.
Kid’s meal entree choices include Scrambled Eggs, French Toast, and Crepes.
Disney’s Be Our Guest breakfast menu is pricey at $28 for adults and $14 for children. However, it really is a spectacular restaurant location which you should try at least once!
The Be Our Guest lunch menu has a selection of soups, entree, and dessert.
Menu items include French Onion Soup, Croque Monsieur, Tuna Niçoise Salad and Carved Roast Beef Sandwich. The kids have a choice of such items as Mickey Meatloaf, Grilled Cheese and Turkey Noodle Soup, Grilled Shrimp and Whole-Grain Macaroni.
The desserts include a variety of delicious cupcakes. The Lemon Meringue Cupcake and the Triple Chocolate Cupcake are our favorites.
Dinner is a traditional restaurant experience. The menu includes Grilled Strip Steak, Roasted Lamb Chop, Sautéed Shrimp and Scallops, Pan-seared Chicken Breast and Layered Ratatouille.
Kids have a choice of Mickey Check Meals or an entree of Beast Casserole or Grilled Cheese and Turkey Noodle Soup.
The desserts include the fabulous cupcakes which are available at lunch. However, you will probably want to try “The Grey Stuff”. This is the restaurant’s famous dessert which is a Chocolate Shell, Cookie Crème topped with Lumiere’s special “Grey Stuff”. It’s worth a try when you are there.
