Best Movies On Disney Plus To Watch For Teens

Sharing is caring!

Given Disney’s reputation of being a company that produces entertainment for kids, teens might think Disney Plus doesn’t offer any movies they’ll like. Some teenagers have told me when they search through the movie library on Disney Plus they can never find any movies they think they’ll enjoy.

While it is hard to see why teenagers would turn away from such sophisticated titles as Johnny Tsunami, Mom’s Got A Date With A Vampire, Million Dollar Duck, The Biscuit Eater, or The Shaggy D.A., there are some movies that might be more appealing to teenagers.

After some searching around, I have found some of the best movies on Disney Plus for teenagers.

Tron: Legacy

It’s far from being the best movie on this list, but there are lots for teens to enjoy in this movie.

For one thing, the world in this movie is very imaginative. It’s one of those worlds where you think to yourself “I really want to go there,” like Middle Earth or Narnia.

The action is unique and very fun to watch. The Light Cycle battle is probably the best part of the movie.

The second best part of the movie is seeing one of the first attempts at making an old actor look younger through digital effects. All I’ll say is the effect hasn’t aged well. I hadn’t seen this movie for over five years, and I gasped when I first saw the young Jeff Bridges character. The guy looks like a Barbie…

The Nightmare Before Christmas

If you love Halloween – and Christmas I guess – this movie is perfect for you.

Like Tron: Legacy, one of the best parts of this movie is the world, which won’t surprise anyone given that this is a Tim Burton movie. I really like the dark and grim feel of Halloweentown.

Teens might appreciate the darker tone in this movie. The story can be a bit sinister sometimes and there are lots of creepy moments scattered throughout the movie.

The songs are good too. They’re probably the best Halloween songs you can find – which, probably isn’t saying that much, given that there are only three others. I honestly can’t think of any other than Thriller, Monster Mash, or Ghostbusters.

Captain America: Civil War

Arguably one of the best superhero movies of all time, mostly because of that airport scene.

I like how the main conflict isn’t between a hero and a villain, but between the two main heroes of the movie. You don’t see that in a lot of superhero movies.

It is also really cool to see all your favorite superheroes come together in one movie. Again, that airport scene is incredible. It’s so much fun.

This is aso one of my favorite MCU movies on Disney Plus

Pirates Of The Carribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl

You couldn’t ask for a better action/adventure movie.

The action in this movie is outstanding. All of the action scenes give you a full-on adrenaline rush and make you feel like you’re riding a roller coaster.

The comedy works well too. I like how they mix in the comedy with the action scenes, making those sequences even more fun to watch.

Unfortunately, the sequels aren’t anywhere near as good as this one. They have their moments, but I still wouldn’t recommend them.

Star Wars – The Original Trilogy

In my opinion, the original Star Wars trilogy – A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi – is the best out of all the trilogies.

If you haven’t seen this trilogy yet, I highly recommend you do so. Even though these movies came out around forty years ago, they’re still really, really good.

The spinoffs, Solo and Rogue One are good too. The same goes for The Force Awakens, the first movie in the newer trilogy.

Guardians Of The Galaxy

Most likely you’ve seen this movie already, but if you haven’t, it’s definitely worth a watch. And even if you have seen it before, go watch it again!

I like it how you’re supposed to take this movie seriously, while at the same time you’re not supposed to take it seriously. It’s very self-aware and knows that it’s a silly movie – one of the main heroes is a talking raccoon and the other a talking tree, after all…

Then at other times it takes itself very seriously and has really dramatic, emotional moments.

Somehow, they managed to take those really dramatic moments and a lot of the silly parts and blend them into a fantastic movie.

The sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is really good too and worth a watch.

The Hunchback Of Notre Dame

Much like The Lion King, this movie is more adult than a lot of the other Disney animated movies.

It’s a very dark story, especially by Disney standards. There’s even a part where the main villain tries to drown a baby. As you can see, it’s a bit more intense than something like Snow White or Tangled.

The Simpsons Movie

This is one of my favorite movies. I love every second of it.

Pretty much every single joke lands. The funniest part is probably the skateboard scene, especially the bit at the end with Ned Flanders. Spider-Pig is a close second.

Also, watch more of the tv-show – it’s just as good.

Freaky Friday (2003)

I really wasn’t expecting to like this movie. I thought it was going to be really cheesy like those Disney Channel Original movies, but to my surprise, the movie was actually really good.

It’s really funny seeing the mother and daughter trying to deal with the problems the other has to face each day.

There’s some good heartfelt moments as well, like the scene where the daughter goes to her brother’s school. I won’t spoil what happens, but I did get a bit teary-eyed.

Black Panther

Out of all the movies of this list, I think this is the best.

This is probably the most adult Marvel movie. A lot of it is just talking. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a good share of action in this movie. There are some really amazing action sequences, like the car chase in the middle of the movie.

What puts this above the other movies on the list is the message it conveys. I won’t reveal what it is, but it is a very important message, and the way they convey it is really clever.

Now go on and enjoy these movies!
