Disney Caribbean Beach

Sharing is caring!

Is Disney Caribbean Beach the right choice of hotel for your Walt Disney World vacation? The Caribbean Beach has an excellent central location which is particularly convenient for Epcot, Disney Hollywood Studios and Downtown Disney. It is a Disney moderate resort with 2112 rooms on a 200 acre site.

As you would expect from the name it’s theme is the Caribbean. The resort consists of the lobby area, The Custom Home, and 33 two storey buildings in 6 villages all named after a Caribbean island. Each village island has it’s own pool with a beach. Old Port Royale, which is also called Centertown, is where you will find most of the resort facilities such as the large resort pool, shops, and restaurants.

At the center of the resort is the 45 acre Barefoot Lake which even has it’s own island in the center Caribbean Cay. Of course this being Disney it is easy to reach the island over the footbridge! The Caribbean Beach is a relaxing place with lots of lush landscaping, The Lake is surrounded by a walking path which leads to the resort buildings.

Like all of the moderate Disney World hotel resorts the rooms at the Caribbean Beach are spread out a long way. So you can be a fair distance from your room from Old Port Royale and you can have a long walk ahead of you to get back to your village. If you have a car you can drive of course, or there is an internal bus to transport you around the resort.

The basic layout of the resort is very similar to Disney Coronado Springs Resort.

Disney Caribbean Beach Resort Rooms

The rooms at Caribbean Beach are 314 square feet in size. Most have 2 full size beds although there are some rooms with a King Size. If you prefer 2 Queen size beds in the room then you may want to look to Coronado Springs Resort instead as this is a similar priced moderate Disney resort. Each room sleeps up to 4 guests and one child aged under 3 in a crib.

The bathroom is quite small, but there are double sinks outside the bathroom. Every room has a television, desk, armoire and refrigerator. All the rooms have internet access for a $10 per day fee.

All of the rooms are motel style and have external corridors. There are no balconies at Caribbean Beach but some people bring folding chairs so that they can sit outside the rooms.

Some of the rooms have a Pirate theme. These are great for families with young children. Who can resist a pirate themed bed and decor? The theme comes at a price of course and these rooms are the most expensive at the resort.

The resort is large. It can take 15 minutes to walk from your room to walk from your room to Old Port Royale. This is fine if you don’t mind walking, driving or taking the bus. But if you want to be nearest the facilities then request a room in Martinique or Trinidad North which are closest to Old Port Royale. These buildings are priced slightly higher than the standard and are categorized as Preferred Rooms. Martinique is also a good choice as it is the first stop on the bus system so your waiting time tends to be less than at other buildings.

You have a choice of either a standard view or a water view. The water views either overlook a pool or the Lake. Of course the water views are slightly more expensive.

How much does a room at Disney’s Caribbean Beach resort cost? Of course it depends on room type and season but standard rooms range from $149 to $234 per night for 4 people. A water view standard room is $174 to $264 per night. King bed and Preferred Room rates are the same as Water View. Remember that the room styles for these categories are the same – it is the different location or view you are paying for. The Pirate Room ranges from $179 to $274 and the Water View Pirate Room from $204 to $304. All rates are for up to 2 adults and 2 children sharing. If you have additional adults they are charged at $15 per night each extra. Rates do not include taxes and are for 2010.

You won’t be short of choices for swimming pool at the resort. Each village has it’s own pool. There is a Pirate themed pool at Old Port Royale, a wading pool and a whirlpool. The adjacent children’s water play area includes squirt hoses, a large bucket that pours water from above and 3 additional waters slides. The main pool is very popular so if you are looking for some peace and quiet then head for one of the village pools. And remember to take the towels from your room as they are not provided pool side.

One very relaxing thing to do is find a hammock to rest in on the sandy beach surrounding Barefoot Lake. Watercraft are also available to rent from Barefoot Bay Marina which is located at Old Port Royale. You can even go on a guided fishing tour of the lake or a Caribbean Pirate Adventure Cruise. Bikes are also available to rent including the Surrey Bicycles for 2 or 4 people. They are a lot of fun to ride around the lake.

You will also find a Volleyball Court and several playgrounds located around the resort.

Disney Caribbean Beach Dining

A quick service and full service dining room are located at Old Port Royale. Market Street is the quick service venue. This is a food court with all the usual fast food type favorites for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Shutters is a full service restaurant which serves Caribbean influenced cuisine such as Aruba Style Chicken, Jerk Crusted Tuna and Caribbean Pasta with Shrimp. Entrees range from around $16 up to $28.

Many guests say that the dining is nice to have as it is on site, but really not amongst the best at Disney resorts. The food court is a bit of a step up from one of the value resorts. It is convenient but often noisy and busy.

Disney Caribbean Beach Transportation

There is bus transportation from the resort to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Animal Kingdom and Disney Hollywood Studios, Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon and Downtown Disney. There is no direct service to the other Disney resort hotels.

Some guests report long waits at the bus stops. If you want to be the first stop on the bus drop off and pick up then choose the Martinique building.

Disney’s Caribbean Beach resort offers great value for money for those looking for just that little bit more than a value resort. Clean, comfortable rooms with all the benefits of a Disney resort. Also remember to look for free Disney Dining offers which are available.
