Disney Coronado Springs Pool – What is So Good About It?

Sharing is caring!

You may have heard that the Disney Coronado Springs Pool is one of the best of all the Disney Hotel Resorts.

Let’s find out what makes this Disney pool so popular with guests.

Disney Coronado Springs Resort

The one thing that everyone first notices about Disney Coronado Springs is how huge the resort it.

This is even more apparent now that the new Grand Destino Tower part of the resort has opened.

Coronado Springs originally opened in 1997 with 1,917 rooms. The original rooms are motel style and split into three villages around the resort.

These villages are the Casitas, the Rancheros and the Cabanas. These areas have an American Southwest combined with Northern Mexico.

The new Gran Destino Tower added 545 rooms in a 15 storey tower building. This part of the Resort has a more distinctly Spanish feel.

The Coronado Springs Resort is built around the 15 acre Lake Dorado.

Coronado Springs Pool

There are a number of swimming pools in the Coronado Springs Resort. Each of the three villages of the main hotel have a quiet pool.

However, the main pool at Disney Coronado Springs is found at the Dig Site location of the resort.

This whole area is themed to create the idea of a archeological find of a Mayan Kingdom.

That explains the huge 50 foot stepped Mayan Temple that dominates the back of the Coronado Springs Pool!

The Disney Coronado Springs Pool is a very generous size at 120 by 90 feet.

It can get busy in the summer time, but generally it feels large enough.

The pool is dominated by the 50 foot Mayan style pyramid at the back.

It is arguably the very best Disney moderate resort pool.

It is an incredibly impressive focal point of the swimming pool. At the front of the Pyramid of the Sun, there are stone steps rising up to the top.

Water runs slowly down from the top of the pyramid.

This is only for decoration as you can’t walk up the steps of the pyramid!

However, for a Disney Moderate Resort, this really is a wonderfully themed pool.

The most exciting feature of the Disney Coronado Springs Pool is the Jaguar Water Slide. The kids will love the 123 foot long, 16 foot high water slide.

You access the water slide towards the right of the back of the Coronado Springs Pool. The slide is partially open and partially covered and a jaguar figure spits water at you as you pass!

The one problem with the water slide is that you can’t see your children once they have started to climb the stairs.

They disappear for quite a while and then the next you can see them is when they splash into the water.

For me this was a pretty big disadvantage when the kids were younger.

You either go up there with them and have your partner supervise them going into the water, or you trust them when they are older.

You can see them coming down the Coronado Springs Water Slide but you can’t be in one place and see them for all of the process.

There is a life guard on duty at Disney Coronado Springs Pool when the slide is open. However, I never liked the lack of visibility when my kids were younger.

You can walk up the stairs with them and view them going down the slide if this is a concern for you.

Disney Coronado Hot Tub

The Coronado Hot Tub is the largest of any on Disney resort property. This is somewhat surprising considering that Coronado Springs is a moderate resort.

In theory it has a capacity of 22 people.

However, I would certainly not enjoy being in there with 21 fellow guests! The Coronado Hot Tub is not themed in any way. It is a relaxing place to be – unless filled to near capacity!

There are plenty of sun loungers around the Disney Coronado Springs Pool. Siesta’s Pool Bar is open daily at 7 am.

The closing time depends upon the season.

It serves beverages and bar food. Siesta’s is a good, but often forgotten place, to get breakfast and lunch.
