Disney Cruise Cancellations

Updated July 2, 2021

Disney last announced cancellations on 6 June, 2021:

  • Disney Wonder sailings have been cancelled through September 19, 2021
  • Disney Dream sailings have been cancelled through August 6, 2021
  • Disney Magic domestic sailings have been cancelled through November 4, 2021
  • Disney Fantasy sailings have been cancelled through August 28, 2021

The Disney Magic is sailing in Europe on Magic at Sea Sailings starting on 15 July. These are cruises to nowhere with no port stops.

The reason that the Disney Magic is available to sail is that the UK and Europe are not under the jurisdiction of the CDC.

Currently, these are the next bookable sailings on all the Disney Ships for 2021.

  • Disney Wonder Cruises next bookable September 24, 2021 2-Night Baja Cruise from San Diego
  • Disney Magic Cruises next bookable July 15, 2021 3-Night Disney Magic at Sea UK Staycation Sailing from Liverpool
  • Disney Dream Cruises next bookable August 9, 2021 4-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Disney Fantasy Cruises next bookable September 4, 2021 7-Night Eastern Caribbean Cruise from Port Canaveral

Disney Cruise Date Flexibility Offer

To encourage guests to continue to book cruises, Disney Cruise Line introduced a booking flexibility offer.

What is this? It allows guests who have either a new or existing reservation which is booked by July 31, 2021, for a sailing scheduled on or before December 31, 2021, to change their sail date up to 15 days before departure.

Disney Cruise Date Flexibility Explained

  • You must have booked before July 31, 2021
  • Your reservation must be for a cruise scheduled to sail on or before December 31, 2021
  • If you meet these 2 conditions you can change your sail date up to 15 days prior to your scheduled sailing date.
  • You can change to a sailing that commences prior to September 30, 2022. Standard prevailing rates will apply. Future cruise credits cannot be applied to the Disney Wish maiden voyage, setting sail on June 9, 2022.
  • Guests cannot change their reservation back to the original sail date after taking advantage of this offer.
  • If you cancel your new sail date, cancellation fees will be the greater of a) cancellation fees that would have been applicable to the original sail date; or b) cancellation fees applicable to the new sail date.
  • Standard air cancellation fees apply for Guests who booked flights through Disney Cruise Line.

When Will Disney Cruises Sail Again?

There is so much speculation about when Disney Cruises will sail again – but right now we simply do not know the answer.

The CDC had issued guidelines that require compliance before each cruise ship is issued a Conditional Sailing Certificate.

However, this has now been overturned as a requirement following the State of Florida’s recent ruling against the CDC.

The position now is that the test sailings are a recommendation, but cannot be a requirement.

The Disney Dream was due to set sail on a test cruise on June 29, 2021 with 300 volunteer crew acting as passengers. However, Disney Cruise Line published this statement via ABC:

The Disney Dream had been scheduled to set sail Tuesday from Port Canaveral, Florida, with 300 employees who had volunteered for the “simulation” cruise. But the trip was postponed until next month, pending approvals, because a small number of employees had inconsistent results for COVID-19, “which is considered positive by the CDC.”

disneymagiccozumel-1

It interesting to see that the Disney Dream sailings have been canceled to August 4, whilst for the other ships, it is quite a bit later. Perhaps this is a sign that there is some hope that the Disney Dream will sail first.

The Disney ships will of course have to return to their respective ports and have a full crew. This again takes some time to set up the logistics of this.

What Happens If Your Disney Cruise is Cancelled?

Disney Cruise Lines has outlined their new policy which extends the Future Credit until September 30, 2022.

Disney has sent this email to guests on the Disney Wonder, Magic and Fantasy who are affected by the changes:

Dear ,
All of us at Disney Cruise Line hope you and your family are staying well.
Our team at Disney Cruise Line remains focused on the health and well-being of our Guests and team members. We are carefully reviewing the recently released guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and working toward resuming operations. As we continue to refine our protocols for our eventual return to service, we are cancelling all Disney Dream/Disney Fantasy/Disney Wonder sailings departing through June 2021.
We are offering affected Guests who have paid their reservation in full the choice of a 125% future cruise credit* to be used for a future sailing on or before September 30, 2022, or a full refund. The credit has automatically been added to your account. Once you have decided on an alternate sail date, you may contact your travel agent. Your agent may place a reservation on hold for you by applying this credit as a payment option when booking a new reservation online. Guests that have not paid their reservations in full will automatically receive a refund of what they have paid so far.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during these times. We look forward to welcoming you aboard as soon as we can and making magic for you and your loved ones.
Sincerely,
Cast & Crew

*The Future Cruise Credit (FCC) is equal to 125% of your original voyage fare plus the cost of the Vacation Protection Plan, if applicable. The FCC is only valid for sailings departing on or before September 30, 2022. Select Disney Wish block-out dates apply. Your original reservation must be paid in full to be eligible for the FCC. The FCC is applied per person and is non-transferable, non-refundable and has no cash value. Standard prevailing rates apply and Guests are responsible for any balance due after the FCC has been applied. If you end up not being able to use the FCC, you will be eligible for a refund up to the amount of your original voyage fare plus the cost of the Vacation Protection Plan, if applicable. Standard cancellation policies and terms and conditions apply to future sailings. Guests who previously received a FCC are not eligible for an additional FCC.

For those sailing on the Disney Magic they get this email:

Dear ,

All of us at Disney Cruise Line hope you and your family are staying well.

Our team at Disney Cruise Line remains focused on the health and well-being of our Guests and team members. With this focus being a top priority and the likelihood of international borders remaining closed for an extended period of time, we have made the decision to cancel Disney Magic sailings through September 18, 2021.

We are offering affected Guests who have paid their reservation in full the choice of a 125% future cruise credit* to be used for a future sailing on or before September 30, 2022, or a full refund. The credit hasautomatically been added to your account. Once you have decided on an alternate sail date, you may contact your travel agent. Note that this now states that Disney Wish block out dates apply. No word yet on when the Disney Wish sailings will be released, but it seems unlikely that any Future Cruise Credit will be able to be applied to those sailings.

Details of the Disney Future Cruise Credit

The Future Cruise Credit is equal to 125% of the original voyage fare plus the cost of the Vacation Protection Plan, if you have purchased this.

The Future Cruise Credit is only valid for sailings departing up to September 30, 2022. This is a change from the original policy and extends the date out further for rebookings.

The original reservation must be paid in full to be eligible for the Future Cruise Credit. This means that if you cancel prior to Disney canceling you are not eligible for the 125% Future Cruise Credit.

The FCC is applied per person and is non-transferable, non-refundable and has no cash value and may be divided across multiple sailings.

Standard cancellation policies and terms and conditions apply to future sailings. Guests who previously received an FCC are not eligible for an additional FCC.

If your future sailing costs more than your FCC you will be responsible for the balance. If it costs less then any excess will be applied as an On-Board Credit.

When you rebook your cruise using your FCC you will pay the standard rate at the time that you rebook. We have no way of predicting how prices for Disney Cruises will change in the coming months, so it may be that they become more expensive, or even that they are reduced.

Guests who booked their reservation through a travel agent should contact them directly with any questions. If you booked directly with Disney Cruise Line you should call  (866) 325-6685 or (407) 566-7797.

101 BEST DISNEY CRUISE TIPS

disneycruiseexcursions

Disney Cruise Lines, like all services, has a supply and demand pricing model. Therefore if after this crisis is over there is a high demand for Disney cruises it is likely that prices will remain at current levels or increase.

As Disney only have 4 ships right now, until Disney Wish arrives, they do not have the issues that larger cruise lines, such as Princess or Royal Caribbean have.

Once those cruises come back online they have a lot of space to fill. Disney is a luxury cruise line with limited capacity and very loyal fans. It will certainly be interesting to see how prices go over the next year or so.

Right now, all Disney Cruises are canceled up to at least April 30, 2021. There are also some itineraries canceled in May.

Disney Cruise Line Itineraries More Than 7 Nights

disney cruise trivia

In order to comply with the CDC Conditional Sail Order, Disney has had to cancel some sailings which were more than 7 nights.

So far there have been 3 cruises affected by these changes:

  1. Usually, the Disney Fantasy sails 7 night Western and Eastern Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral. However, occasionally she will sail shorter or longer itineraries. The 9 night Disney Fantasy sailing was due to leave Port Canaveral on July 22, 2021, has been canceled, but it has been replaced with alternative itineraries.

This sailing has been replaced with a 3-night Bahamian sailing and a 6 night Western Caribbean sailing. Both of these options are available to book from December 21, 2021.

Guests who were already booked on this sailing will be offered a 10% discount on the cost of either the 3 or 6-night replacement itinerary.

For guests who were already paid in full, they can choose either a 125% future cruise credit to be used for a future sailing prior to May 31, 2022, or a full refund.

2. The Disney Wonder was due to sail on 28 June 2021 on a 9-night Alaskan cruise from Vancouver. This has been replaced with a 7-night cruise from Vancouver.

For guests who were already paid in full, they can choose either a 125% future cruise credit to be used for a future sailing prior to May 31, 2022, or a full refund.

Guests who were booked on the 9 night cruise can also opt for a 10% discount on the replacement 7 night cruise.

3. The Disney Magic was due to sail on a 13 night Transatlantic Cruise from Miami to Barcelona on May 9, 2021. This cruise has been cancelled.

At the moment, no replacement cruise has been announced. The Disney Magic is still in Europe at the moment – having spent a lot of time since the shut down in the port of Dover.

If you were booked on this cruise and have paid your reservation in full you can choose either a 125% future cruise credit to be used for a future sailing prior to May 31, 2022, or a full refund.
