What are the Disney Dream Ship Virtual Portholes?

Disney Cruise Lines is known for its innovation. When the Disney Dream cruise ship was launched way back in January 2011 the new virtual portholes in inside staterooms were incredibly popular.

Interior Stateroom with Magical Porthole - Disney Fantasy

One advantage of an Inside Stateroom is that it can be completely dark, so it is a perfect place to get a good night’s rest. You actually have to watch out that you do not oversleep as you will not see daylight in the stateroom. This can make it a great option for guests with young children.

Don’t worry. You can turn off the Virtual Porthole at any time. You don’t have to worry about Mickey suddenly appearing and waking you up at 3 am.

Often, the Inside Staterooms are not very differently priced to the Outside Staterooms. It is always worth comparing the prices of the two types of stateroom on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy and working out whether you prefer an actual view outside, or a virtual one.

Does The Disney Magic Have Virtual Portholes?

Only the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy have the virtual portholes.

The Classic Disney Ships, the Disney Magic and the Wonder do not have the virtual portholes.

Many hoped that the classic ships would get an upgrade to include the virtual portholes in one of their recent dry docks. Unfortunately, it seems that it would be too complicated (or perhaps too expensive) to retrofit these Disney ships with the virtual portholes.

An Inside Stateroom is still a great option on the Disney Wonder and the Disney Magic, Here you can see a complete guide to Disney Magic Inside Staterooms.

It is highly likely that the new Disney Wish will have virtual porholes. Or at least some innovative use of the technology. Disney Cruise lines is always moving forward in it’s design concepts, so we can expect great things from the Disney Wish.
