Disney World Splash Mountain

Sharing is caring!

One of the most popular rides in Magic Kingdom is Disney World Splash Mountain. This fun ride is great for all the family (provided they meet the 40″ height requirement). One thing is pretty much guaranteed. You will get wet on Splash Mountain! Be prepared to get extremely wet. There is a reason why the line is short on the colder days!

Disney World Splash Mountain is based on Walt Disney’s 1946 classic movie “Song of the South”. Guests board an 8 passenger log and start what may at first seem like a gentle ride through the swamp with Brer Rabbit. However things soon get a little more interesting on this 11 minute ride. You quickly encounter the first of 5 drops. As you near the end of the ride your log with slowly climb for the highest drop – the 52 foot, 5 story, 45 degree drop that you can see from the outside of the ride. If you aren’t already completely drenched at this point then you likely soon will be!

Disney World Splash Mountain is one of the most popular rides in Magic Kingdom. Located in Frontierland next to Big Thunder Mountain, it is advisable to arrive early and get a fast pass for one of them and ride the other.

The height requirement is 40″ for Splash Mountain. There is a Child Swap available if one of your party does not or cannot ride with you. Of course if you don’t want to ride yourself you can always have fun watching other guests plunge over the 52 foot drop and then get soaked!

Although Disney World Splash Mountain is a classic ride it was not part of the original Magic Kingdom rides. It opened on July 17 1992. The Official Dedication was held October 2 1992. It has 68 audio animatronic characters making it one of the largest collections in Disney World. The price tag for the hopping Brer Rabbit was reportedly $1.3 million.

I never knew that the ride was based on a movie...what a fun fact!! For the baby swap it is really nice that they have the play spot right outside of the exit so that those waiting back with the kiddos can enjoy some out of the sun play time.
