Disneyland Mint Julep Recipe

The Disneyland Mint Julep is one of those love it or loathe it kind of things. The Disney version is refreshingly alcohol free so all the family can enjoy it. The mint julep is admittedly a rather worrying shade of bright green, but I always find myself making my way to this very popular spot for my julep fix, particularly in the summer.

You do have to seek out the Mint Julep Bar as it is a little off the beaten path, tucked away between the French Market in New Orleans Square, and the entrance to the Disneyland Railroad. You can also find it at Cafe Orleans, one of my all time favorite Disneyland restaurants.

The line at the Mint Julep Bar can be long and moves very slowly. I really couldn’t work out why the line was so slow as the range of items you can buy here is limited. The Cast Members working there did not seem to be the happiest in the park. I think that the design of the kiosk has something to do with it as it is difficult to see through the service windows. On both times I was there last week they messed up my order and the orders of the people in front of me. But the mint julep was worth waiting for (it was over 90 degrees in the park)!

Also very popular from the Mint Julep Bar are the Mickey-shaped Beignets. These taste a lot like donuts and are topped with powdered sugar. A 3-pack is $3.99 and a 6-pack $6.99. Way too sweet for my taste but they are certainly a Disneyland favorite. They also explain why so many of the tables in the French Market are covered with icing sugar!

The Mint Julep Bar also serves coffees and soda.

For those of you who want to bring a little bit of the Disneyland magic home:

3 Cups of Club Soda

For the Garnish:

Mint Leaves

Mix the sugar into club soda until dissolved. Pour into a small saucepan. Then add the lime juice and lemonade concentrate and slowly bring to a boil on a moderate heat. Remove the mix from the heat and add creme de menthe. Chill in the refrigerator.

When it is cooled mix 3 parts syrup to 5 parts water. To serve pour over ice and garnish with the mint leaves, lime or lemon and cherries.
