DIY Disney Christmas Ornament Stitch

Who wants to make their own DIY Disney Christmas Ornament of the adorable Stitch character from the movie? Here I show you, step by step, how to make this Stitch Christmas Tree Ornament. Who can resist those cute ears?

Painted Stitch Christmas Tree Ornament

Here are the materials you will need for your DIY Disney Christmas Ornament.

Materials:

• Clear Plastic Christmas Ornaments
• Acrylic Craft Paint (I used Deco Art Americana in Blue Harbor“>Blue Harbor, Primary Blue” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>PrimPrimary Blue“>ary Blue, Turquoise Blue” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Turquoise Blue, Lamp Black ” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Lamp Black, and Warm White” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Warm White)
• Small Plastic Cups
• Fine Paint Brush
• Blue and Purple Felt 4”x6” each (I used Benzie Design felt in Periwinkle and Lilac)
• Hot Glue Gun
• Stitch Ear Template
• Scissors or Rotary Cutter and Cutting Mat

Instructions for Making Stitch Disney Christmas Ornament

Pull the cap out of your ornament and set off to the side.

Pour medium blue paint in the ornament and slowly rotate it to coat the whole inside.

Set the ornament upside down in a plastic cup to drain out the excess paint. Let it sit overnight if you can, but a couple hours minimum. 

While that dries, Print out the template for Stitch’s ears, and cut out both pieces.

For each template piece, cut out one blue felt piece and one purple felt piece.

I find it easier to lay the fabric pieces together and cut them with a rotary cutter at the same time to make sure the inner and outer ear match up well. 

Once the inside of the ornament is dry, you can pop the cap back on and start painting the face on the outside.

Since you’re using acrylic craft paint, you will get the best results if you do a thin layer for each shape you paint, then let that dry and paint another thin layer over it. 

Start by making an oval with the dark blue for the nose, then adding a slight point to the bottom of it. 

Next, make two ovals in turquoise, each with a slight point toward the nose. 

Once the turquoise dries, add black for the eyes in the same shape, just smaller. While you’re using the black, paint his mouth, nostrils, and the lines above the nose and eyes. 

Now you’ll go back to the turquoise, and paint the turquoise of his chin.

It’s better to paint this after the mouth, because you can touch up any thickness mistakes on the mouth by covering them in turquoise.

The last thing left to paint is two small white dots on his eyes. 

Now it’s time to add the ears! Using a thin layer of hot glue, attach the matching ear pieces together so that they have a blue back and purple front.

Pinch the corners together and glue into place to create the folds. 

Before attaching the ears to the ornament, cut the triangle slits from the bottom of each ear. The slit in his right ear (your left!) is up near the tip, and the one on the other side is closer to the base. 

Now squeeze some hot glue onto the base of each ear and press them in place on the back of his head.
