Top 10 Disney Animated Movies To Watch On Disney Plus

Sharing is caring!

One of the best things to be launched for Disney fans out of 2019 was Disney Plus.

Having a place where you can access hundreds and hundreds of Disney animated movies was a thing of dreams, but now that dream has come true with Disney Plus!

Now you can watch pretty much all of your favorite Disney animated movies, such as Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, along with hundreds more wherever and whenever you like!

With so much choice though, sometimes it can be a little overwhelming and it can be hard to decide which one to watch.

So to help you pick which movie to watch next, I’ve comprised a list of the 10 best Disney animated movies to watch, with the one at the top being (in my opinion) the greatest Disney animated movie ever produced.

There are spoilers ahead, so if you haven’t seen these movies I would avoid reading the text I put under the movie titles.

Enjoy!

10. The Lion King

This film is epic! Everything feels very big in this movie, from the story to the scenery and to the music.

Speaking of the music, I think this might have the best score out of any Disney movie. I sometimes play the soundtrack while I’m writing and it gives me chills every time I listen to it.

This has a really good message too about not running away from your past mistakes. My favorite scene is when Rafiki convinces Simba to go back to Pride Rock, teaching him that he should learn from his experiences.

The only thing is about this movie is sometimes the characters can be a bit annoying, specifically Timone and Pumba. Other than that, great movie!

9. Alice In Wonderland

This movie is unlike any of the other Disney animated movies, and that’s what I love about it.

There isn’t much of a story. There is the storyline with the White Rabbit, but its main focus is on Alice exploring all these bizarre places in Wonderland.

This movie is basically an excuse for the story-tellers to unleash their imagination and go wild with creating all these weird and crazy characters and settings, and that’s why I love it.

8. The Emperor’s New Groove

I’ll admit, the story isn’t the best. It’s very predictable and it feels very cliché.

However, it makes up for having a brilliant sense of humor with some of the funniest moments out of any of the Disney animated movies.

I love movies like these that don’t really take themselves that seriously and made to just make you laugh. A perfect example of this is how they mention how illogical it was that Yzma and Knonk somehow made it back to the lab before the main characters.

The finale for this one is incredible. I was laughing so much the last time I watched it that I had to pause it.

7. Aladdin

By far, Robin William’s as the Genie is the best part of this movie. The energy he brings to his character is amazing.

This one probably has my favorite Disney villain, Jafar. His evil laugh is top-notch and I love how over-the-top he is.

The songs in this movie are great too, my favorite being “Friend Like Me.”

6. Frozen

It’s almost impossible to come up with something to say about this movie since everything that could be said has probably been said before.

Even though it’s been nearly seven years since its release it still remains one of the best animated movies ever made.

I really like how they twist around lots of Disney clichés, such as the handsome prince turning out to be a main antagonist of the story. They also challenge some of those clichés too, like when Elsa tells Anna she can’t marry a person she just met.

And of course what would the world be without the iconic Let It Go?

5. The Princess And The Frog

The thing I like about this Disney princess movie is the princess is actually a positive role model, where many Disney princesses like Ariel or Aurora fall flat on being a good influence on children.

Tiana knows that in order to accomplish her goals she can’t rely on anyone but herself and she works very hard to reach her goal. Compare that to Ariel, who sells her voice to a sea witch – who she knows has a history of committing evil acts – so she can be with a man she just met.

I think this has one of the best Disney princes too. He’s not just a bland character only speaks one or two lines, like Prince Charming.

4. Cinderella

About fifty-percent of the reason why I love this movie has to do with the main villain, Lady Tremaine. I really like how subtle she is in the way she abuses Cinderella. She rarely actually directly abuses her, instead she is a more manipulative.

For example, when Cinderella comes down in the pink dress and Lady Tremaine doesn’t want her to go, instead of physically stopping her, she manipulates her daughters into ripping her dress by drawing attention to the necklace.

She knew that it was her daughter’s necklace and that she’d get mad at Cinderella once she realized she was wearing it. I really like villains like that, who are subtle in the way they get at the main character.

The rest of the movie is excellent too. Again though, the highlight for me is Lady Tremaine. Fun fact about her is that the actress who provided the voice for her also provided the voice for Madame Leota in the Haunted Mansion.

3. Tangled

This is a really, really fun adventure movie that’s perfect for families.

Tangled is one of the funniest movies Disney has produced. I love Pascal, the chameleon.

The scene where Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder go out to see the lanterns is still one of the best scenes in animated movie history. My jaw drops when I watch it, even though I’ve seen it over a thousand times.

As far as Disney Villains go, Mother Gothel is one of the best.

2. Zootopia

I love the message in this movie. I really liked that Disney tackled themes about prejudice and racism in one of their movies.

I think my favorite moment in the movie is when Judy Hopps reaches for her predator repellent when she thinks Nick Wilde is about to attack her. I like that the main character isn’t perfect and this scene shows that even the best of people can be prone to being prejudice or biased against other groups.

1. Beauty And The Beast

The perfect animated movie. It has great characters, a great villain, story, and outstanding animation.
