What is an Inside Stateroom?

An inside stateroom is a budget-friendly cabin without windows or outside views. It’s perfect for guests who plan to spend most of their time enjoying the ship’s activities.

  • Available on all Disney Ships including Disney Wonder and Disney Magic (sister ships with identical layouts).
  • Two types: Standard Inside Stateroom and Deluxe Inside Stateroom.

The best way to see exactly what an inside stateroom is on Disney Wonder and Magic is to watch this video:

Inside Stateroom Categories

Each stateroom is assigned a category number and letter:

  • Standard Inside Staterooms: Categories 11A, 11B, 11C (184 sq. ft.).
  • Deluxe Inside Staterooms: Categories 10A, 10B, 10C (214 sq. ft.).
  • Higher letters – so the “best” is A – denote more desirable locations on the ship.

Generally the higher the deck, the more it is considered to be a better location as those staterooms are closer to the pool deck.

However, don’t dismiss choices on other decks.

  • Deck 1 can be a good choice as there are very few staterooms located there so it is quiet. It is just a couple of decks down from restaurants and bars.
  • Deck 2 can be a great choice. Just one floor away from restaurants and bars you can easily walk up the stairs. The elevators tend to be less busy going up as there are fewer people coming from that deck. Generally quiet although there can be some noise when docking.
  • Deck 5 is located on the Kids Club and Nursery Deck. This puts a lot of people off this location but it really shouldn’t. I have stayed on this deck a number of times and like it’s convenient location and have never had an issue with noise. If you have kids it is very convenient for the clubs and also the Buena Vista Theater. Note that the aft inside staterooms on Deck 5 are above the Walt Disney Theater so you may experience some noise during the shows (but most likely you will either be at the show or at dinner during these times).
  • Deck 6 has a choice of Aft, Mid Ship and Forward Inside Staterooms. Note that the only choice is Standard Inside Staterooms so if you want the Split Bathroom this is not the deck for you.
  • Deck 7 A good location as close to the pool deck. I particularly like the aft 10A Deluxe Inside Staterooms as it is so easy to walk up the aft stairs to Cabanas Buffet and the Pool Deck.

Sleeping Arrangements

  • Queen Bed in all rooms. It does not separate into a twin, unlike some other cruise lines.
  • Sleeper Sofa for a 3rd guest.
  • Select staterooms include a pull-down bunk bed, accommodating up to 4 guests.

Standard Inside Stateroom Features

  • Size: 184 sq. ft. (smallest on the ship).
  • Bathroom: Single-room layout with a toilet, sink, and combined bath/shower.
  • Best For: Couples or budget-conscious travelers who don’t plan to spend much time in their room.

Deluxe Inside Stateroom Features

  • Size: 214 sq. ft. (extra space dedicated to the bathroom).
  • Split Bathroom: One room with a toilet and sink; another with a shower and sink.
  • Best For: Families or guests who prefer the split bathroom.

Secret Porthole Staterooms

These cabins are technically inside staterooms but include a partially obstructed porthole view for natural light.

The stateroom numbers are 5020, 5022, 5520, 5522, 5524, 6006 and 6506.

  • Categories: Sold as Category 10 staterooms.
  • Locations: Mainly on Deck 5, with two on Deck 6.
  • Best Choices: Cabins 5020 and 5520 (least obstructed views).

Does an Inside Stateroom Save You Money?

Inside staterooms are usually the lowest-priced cabins on Disney Cruises, though savings depend on the itinerary and sailing date.

Thoughts on Price Differences

  • Price Differences Between Stateroom Categories:
The price gap between Inside and Oceanview staterooms is relatively modest for the Mexican cruises. However, for the Alaskan cruises, the difference is significantly larger—especially for Concierge and Verandah staterooms.
  • Alaska Cruise Premiums for Verandah Staterooms:
Verandah cabins are highly sought after on Alaskan itineraries due to the breathtaking views of glaciers and wildlife. As a result, they are priced at a higher premium compared to other stateroom categories.

Additional Features in Every Inside Stateroom

  1. Beverage Cooler: Keeps drinks cool but not cold.
  2. Storage Space: Ample closets and drawers, even in Standard cabins.
  3. Privacy Curtain: Separates sleeping and living areas.
  4. Flat-Screen TV: Includes Disney programming and ship updates..
  5. Desk and Stool: Offers space for work or personal items.

Is an Inside Stateroom a Good Choice?

If you’re looking for comfort on a budget, an inside stateroom is a great option. It’s cozy, functional, and gives you access to all the same ship amenities as other guests.

For families, consider upgrading to a Deluxe Inside Stateroom for the split bathroom. If natural light is essential, try to book a Secret Porthole Stateroom.
