Serenity Bay Cabana at Lookout Cay: Is It Worth the Cost? My Honest Review

Sharing is caring!

Lighthouse Point was the port day I was most excited about on my recent Disney Dream sailing.

I’ve visited multiple times before — but this time was different.

About six weeks before sailing, I happened to check cabana availability and was genuinely shocked to see one still available at Serenity Bay.

If you’ve ever tried to book a Disney cabana, you’ll know they usually disappear within minutes. So seeing Cabana F sitting there eight weeks out? That definitely caught my attention.

Not only was one available on Serenity Bay, there were 2 available on the Family Beach.

Tempting as those Family Cabanas are which are directly on the beach (unlike the Serenity Bay ones), but not that temping at the price of $1030. Or $1375 for a Grand Cabana. Not too bad for a group of people, but not for 2.

After the initial excitement of actually being able to book one wore off, reality set in.

Should I really keep it?

For $620?

Serenity Bay cabanas are less expensive than the Family Beach cabanas, but they are still a significant splurge. And for this cruise, it was just my daugther Holly and I.

No kids (Serenity Bay is adults-only).
No big group to divide the cost.
No real need for a shaded “home base” for a large party.

If I’d been sailing purely as a guest and not reviewing it for EverythingMouse, I honestly don’t know that I would have gone ahead with the reservation — especially for just the two of us.

But I decided to keep it.

I wanted to experience it properly and answer the question so many of you ask:

Is a Cabana at Lighthouse Point really worth it?

So we kept the booking, showed up bright and early on Lighthouse Point day…

Arrival and Cabana Check-In (A Slightly Confusing Start)

The day before arriving at Lookout Cay, wristbands were delivered to our stateroom.

No note.
No instructions.
Just wristbands.

So we set off as soon as the ship was cleared as I didn’t want to waste a moment in the Cabana – I admit I had started thinking of it as an hourly rate at this point…

Now I know a lot has been said about this walk from the ship to the tram spot. It’s 0.6 miles and takes between 8 and 15 minutes depending upon how fast you walk.

If you have accessibility issues you can stop by Guest Services and ask for a golf cart ride. If you have young kids there are wagons and strollers available.

If you have a Family Cabana on Mabrika Beach you will get through the security point and turn right to walk to the Check in. As we were on Serenity Bay we got the tram.

There is a check in point a short walk from the tram arrival point.

The Cast Members were friendly, efficient, and very welcoming — and that level of service really set the tone for the rest of the day.

Golf Cart Transfer and Exceptional Cast Member Care

From check-in, we were taken by golf cart to Cabana F at Serenity Bay.

It’s only a short ride, but it does make the experience feel more premium and relaxed from the start.

As we were getting out of the cart, Holly unfortunately hurt her knee. The Cast Members responded instantly — bringing ice, checking in throughout the day, and making sure she was comfortable.

Whatever your view on the Cabana value, the service level was excellent.

Cabana F at Serenity Bay: Location and What You Actually Get

There are only six Serenity Bay cabanas (A–F), plus two Grand Cabanas, so it is a relatively small and exclusive area.

But note that the Serenity Bay Cabanas are not directly beach front.

They have easy access to the beach over a bridge walkway, but they are not directly on the beach like the Family Cabanas. In the picture below you can see the area in front of the Cabana, and the steps over to the beach on the right.

Cabana F is one of the accessible cabanas and is very conveniently located right at the end of the row of Cabanas.

  • Close to Serenity Bay BBQ
  • Near restrooms
  • Just steps from the beach
  • A short walk to Blue Hole Bar

Inside, the Cabana includes:

  • Comfortable shaded seating
  • Sun loungers
  • Towels
  • A stocked fridge with soda and water
  • A fruit platter and packaged snacks
  • Sunscreen (which was very appreciated)
  • A drink ordering system
  • Music controls for ambiance
  • Snorkel gear

You can order drinks without ever leaving the cabana, which definitely adds to the “luxury beach day” feel.

How the Cabana Fit Into Our Actual Lighthouse Point Day

We:

  • Relaxed on the loungers
  • Walked the beach
  • Ordered one drink
  • Had lunch at Serenity Bay BBQ
  • Enjoyed the peaceful, open atmosphere

But as a party of two, the cabana felt… very large and in reality, a bit of a waste of money.

We didn’t host a group.
We didn’t maximize drink service.
We didn’t need a shaded gathering space.

In reality, we could easily have used the complimentary loungers and umbrellas already available along the wide, uncrowded beach at Serenity Bay.

The Weather Factor (Which Really Changes the Value)

Most of the time the weather is fabulous at Lighthouse Point. On all my other visits it has been great.

It wasn’t this time. And I probably should have cancelled when I could as the weather forecast didn’t look good when I was watching it the week before.

You can see from this picture just how dark those clouds were. And it meant an almost empty beach.

Our day was:

  • Cool
  • Windy
  • And the ocean was too cold to comfortably swim

And at Lookout Cay, the beach and ocean are the main experience.

Unlike Castaway Cay, which has a breakwater and calmer lagoon-style waters, Lookout Cay faces the open ocean, so weather conditions are much more noticeable.

I am pretty good with cooler water (that British upbringing) but I didn’t even want to dip my toes in the water on that day.

We stayed from about 9:00am until 3:00pm, but without warm sunshine and swimmable water, the cabana shifted from being a beach upgrade to essentially a very comfortable seating area with shelter from the rain!

Lunch & the Overall Island Experience

Like all meals on the island, lunch is included in your cruise fare, and there are three BBQ locations across Lookout Cay serving island-inspired dishes, seafood, chicken, and ribs. Two are in the family area and one is in the adult area.

For lunch, we chose Serenity Bay BBQ simply because it was close to the cabana.

Although True True Too BBQ really wasn’t very far away either, the adult BBQ was less busy.

The food is fine on Lighthouse Point, with plenty of selection. I do prefer the food on Castaway Cay, particularly with the recent changes at Serenity Bay.

And for all those people worried about flies on Lighthouse Point I can honestly say I have never seen a problem there. I am not sure what Disney did after the initial problem but I haven’t seen it.

We took the food back to the Cabana and it was nice to enjoy it on the dining table there.

Serenity Bay vs Family Beach Cabanas

It’s also worth understanding the layout of Lookout Cay.

Serenity Bay here is adult-only, but it’s not as physically separated as Serenity Bay at Castaway Cay.

It feels more like a designated section of the same beautiful stretch of beach. The adult area is marked off by cones – so very different from Castaway Cay.

Family cabanas, located closer to Mabrika Cove, are in a very different area of the island.

Most guests who have a Cabana here will possibly not even experience the larger part of the island. These are beach front Cabanas, with relatively few guests having access to that each so a very different experience to Serenity Bay.

So… Is a Serenity Bay Cabana at Lighthouse Point Worth It?

For us, as two adults?

Honestly — no, I wouldn’t book it again.

I’m glad we experienced it.
The service was outstanding.
The cabana was comfortable and well located.

But the natural beauty of Lookout Cay is already the main event.

  • Wide, pristine beach and beautiful blue ocean
  • Plenty of loungers

We could have enjoyed these chairs on the beach without paying extra.

The cabana felt like a luxury upgrade rather than something essential to enjoying the day.

However, I would absolutely see the value if you are:

  • Traveling with children
  • Splitting the cost between 4–6 people

In those situations, the cost per person drops and the cabana becomes much more worthwhile.

I am genuinely glad I booked Cabana F and experienced a full day at Serenity Bay with it.

But if I were sailing purely for my own vacation — not reviewing, not researching, just enjoying the island — I would happily skip the cabana and spend the day with two loungers, an umbrella, and that beautiful stretch of Bahamian sand.
