This is what the Disney Cruise home port map will look like for late 2027 and early 2028.

Disney Hasn’t Sailed From New York Since 2022
Let me just say this upfront: This is going to be incredibly popular.
Disney hasn’t operated sailings from New York since 2022. And for East Coast cruisers, especially those in the Northeast, this has been a significant gap in Disney’s port offerings.
No more flying to Florida. No more long drives to other ports. Just show up in Manhattan and sail.
That’s a game-changer for a lot of families.
Based on the teaser images Disney released, and the information on the DCL website, we’re looking at sailings to Bermuda, the Caribbean, and the Canadian Coast. Those are classic New York cruise itineraries, and they make perfect sense for the market.
The Big Question: Which Ship Is Going to New York?
Here’s where it gets really interesting.
We don’t know for certain yet, but there are really only two realistic scenarios:
Scenario 1: The Disney Wish relocates to New York (and potentially Galveston for part of the year), while the Disney Believe takes over the Wish’s current Port Canaveral schedule.
Scenario 2: The Disney Wish goes straight to Port Canaveral as originally planned, new Disney Believe heads north to New York. I am not convinced that DCL will put a brand new ship in New York but it could happen.
Either way, it appears one of the Wish-class ships is heading to New York.
And honestly? That would be a smart strategic move. The Wish-class ships are the newest in the fleet, featuring all the latest amenities, dining experiences, and entertainment options. Putting one of them in New York would make a serious statement about Disney’s commitment to the Northeast market.
But we’ll know for sure tomorrow when Disney makes the official announcement.
What the Teaser Images and DCL Website Tell Us
Disney released some teaser graphics featuring coordinates and destination hints that pretty clearly point to New York sailings.
And here’s what we’re seeing on the Disney Cruise Website
Destinations Include:
Bermuda: This is a classic and extremely popular itinerary from New York. Bermuda offers that perfect mix of British charm, beautiful pink-sand beaches, and easy accessibility from the Northeast.
The Caribbean: Disney highlighted ports including Antigua, St. Maarten, and San Juan. These longer Caribbean itineraries from New York give families the option for warm-weather tropical vacations without flying to Florida first.
Canadian Coast: Sailings to Halifax and Saint John offer scenic coastal beauty, cultural experiences, and those gorgeous fall foliage cruises that are incredibly popular in the Northeast market.
Those are exactly the kinds of itineraries you’d expect from New York. They’re proven routes that appeal to different types of cruisers depending on what kind of experience they’re looking for.
Want a relaxing beach getaway with a touch of British sophistication? Bermuda.
Want warm-weather Caribbean vibes with multiple island stops? Head south.
Want scenic coastal beauty, charming port towns, and cultural experiences? Canadian Coast.
Disney is covering all the bases here.
Why New York Is Such a Strategic Port for Disney

Image Disney Cruise Line
Disney operates from multiple homeports. But New York is different, and it’s worth understanding why this matters so much.
Accessibility
New York is one of the most accessible cruise ports in the entire country. You’ve got massive population centers within driving distance—not just New York City itself, but also New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and beyond. You’ve got three major airports serving the region. And you’ve got excellent infrastructure for getting people to the port.
That accessibility translates directly into demand.
Market Size
The Northeast represents an enormous potential market for Disney Cruise Line. These are families who’ve been flying to Florida or driving to other ports for years. Many of them would prefer to cruise closer to home if given the option.
By bringing Disney back to New York, Disney is essentially saying: “You don’t have to come to us anymore. We’re coming to you.”
That’s powerful.
The “Sail Away” Experience
There’s something genuinely special about sailing from New York. Watching a Disney ship pass the Statue of Liberty as you head out to sea is an iconic experience that you simply can’t replicate from other ports.
It’s the kind of moment that creates memories and gets shared on social media. And for Disney, that kind of organic marketing is incredibly valuable.
What This Means for the Rest of the Fleet
If the Wish does relocate to New York, that creates some interesting questions about fleet deployment.
Port Canaveral: If the Wish leaves, does the Treasure take over those sailings? More likely that Disney Treasure will continue with the 7 night sailings and the new ship Disney Believe takes over the 3 ad 4 night sailings that Disney Wish did.
That seems like the most logical scenario, and it would ensure Florida remains fully served with multiple ships.
Galveston: There’s also speculation that the Wish could split time between New York and Galveston, giving Disney a Wish-class presence in both markets. That would be a significant upgrade for Texas cruisers who currently have access to older ships.
Seasonal Patterns: New York sailings are typically seasonal, running primarily from spring through fall. That could allow Disney to reposition the ship to warmer climates during winter months, maximizing utilization.
We don’t have definitive answers yet.
But hopefully we will tomorrow.
And regardless of the specific deployment strategy, the bigger picture is clear: Disney is expanding its homeport presence and giving cruisers more options.
That’s good for everyone.
Why This Announcement Matters Right Now
Disney’s return to New York comes at an interesting time in the cruise industry.
Demand for cruising has been incredibly strong. But there’s also been a shift in what cruisers are looking for. More people want convenient homeport options. More people are prioritizing experiences that don’t require extensive travel just to reach the ship.
New York addresses both of those trends perfectly.
It’s convenient for a massive population base. And it offers itineraries that feel special and different from the standard Caribbean routes that dominate Florida departures.
Disney is reading the market correctly here.
What Happens Next
The official announcement is coming tomorrow, August 25th. At that point, we’ll know:

Really fast.
New York sailings have always been popular when Disney has offered them. And putting a Wish-class ship there is only going to increase demand.

Be ready to book quickly. Popular sailings—especially on new routes with new ships—can sell out within hours or even minutes for certain cabin categories.
Know your dates. Have a few different sailing dates in mind so you have flexibility if your first choice sells out quickly.
Understand your budget. New York sailings, especially on a Wish-class ship, will likely command premium pricing. Know what you’re comfortable spending before booking opens.
My Take on All This
I’m genuinely excited about this announcement.
Disney returning to New York is great news for Northeast cruisers who’ve been underserved for the past few years. It’s great news for families who want the convenience of a closer homeport. And it’s great news for anyone who wants to experience one of Disney’s newest ships without flying to Florida.
The itineraries look solid. The timing makes sense. And if Disney does put the Wish in New York, that’s a significant commitment to the market.
This is the kind of expansion Disney should be doing.
More homeports. More options. More ways for families to experience Disney cruising without it feeling like a major logistical undertaking just to get to the ship.
I also think this signals that Disney is confident in the strength of cruise demand right now. You don’t commit to opening a major homeport unless you believe you can fill the ships. And Disney clearly believes they can.
Disney Cruise Line is returning to New York City. The official announcement is tomorrow, August 25th. And based on the teaser images, we’re looking at sailings to Bermuda, the Caribbean, and the Canadian Coast.
We don’t know which ship yet, but all signs point to one of the Wish-class ships. And that would make New York one of the most exciting and well-equipped homeports in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.
This is going to be popular. Really popular.
If you’re thinking about booking, don’t wait. Get connected with the Vacationeer now so you’re ready to go when bookings open. Tomorrow’s announcement is going to generate a lot of excitement, and the best cabins will go quickly.
