New Disney Cruise Ships to be Built at Meyer Weft Shipyard

Sharing is caring!

As predicted, Disney Cruise Line has trusted the surprise order of four new ships to Meyer Weft.

Disney has a long relationship with the German shipyard that started with the building of Disney Dream which was launched in January 2011.

This was followed in 2012 by Disney Fantasy.

There was then a long gap until 2022 which saw Disney WIsh added to the fleet. DCL is certainly making up for that decade of no new cruise ships.

We are very happy to continue our partnership with Disney Cruise Line and build four additional outstanding ships over the next seven years. We now have eight ships for Disney Cruise Line in our order book which reflects the trust in our capabilities and hard work of our team”, says Bernard Meyer.

“Our Disney cruise ships are the true ambassadors for our brands and beloved by fami-lies the world over,” said Thomas Mazloum, president, New Experiences Portfolio and Disney Signature Experiences. “As we embark on this ambitious and unprecedented expansion for Disney Cruise Line, we are delighted to work with Meyer Werft once again.”

The new ships will take the total of the Disney fleet to 13 by 2031.

There is some speculation that Disney Magic and Disney Wonder may be retired at some time in the not too distant future. By the time all the new ships are launched these Classic ships will be more than 30 years old.

Whilst the interiors of the ships are always kept updated and look as good as new, ships are not designed to last forwever, and there will inevitably be a time when they will be retired.
