Disney World Dining Reservation – Do I Really Need One?

Disney World Dining Reservation

Do I really need a Disney World Dining Reservation? The quick answer is most definitely yes if you want to eat in a Disney World restaurant. How do you make a Disney World Dining Reservation? As the restaurants are so popular in the parks and resorts it is very important that you know how to make a Disney World Dining Reservation. For the most part gone are the days when you could simply walk up to the restaurant of your choice and get a table.

All photos by Expressmonorail

Of course the ease or difficulty of getting reservations depends upon how busy the parks are. You will find it much easier to get a reservation the first two weeks of December than you will on Christmas Day for example!

Here is everything you need to know about making a Disney World dining reservation. Or in Disney speak, make an Advance Dining Reservation.

How Far Ahead Can You Make Advance Dining Reservations?

Disney World Dining Reservations

Disney World Dining Reservations for the table service restaurants can be made 180 days in advance. If you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel you can make dining reservations for the length of their stay (for up to 10 days) at 180 days before the start of their stay. This gives Disney World hotel resort guests a head start. Another advantage of staying in a Disney Hotel Resort.

Disney World Dining Reservations Online

This is our preferred method of booking these days. Simply go to

Disney World Dining

We always find this much quicker than phone reservations.

Disney Dining Reservations By Phone

Call 407 WDW DINE and speak with a Disney dining reservation specialist. The waits can be long and frustrating. But at least you do get a (usually) helpful reservationist to talk to. They can help you with different choices if you first isn’t’ available. The online system can also help you with this (and it sometimes more helpful than the real person)!

Disney Guest Services or Resort Concierge

If you are at the Disney parks you can make a reservation with Disney guest services. This helps with last minute decisions about where to dine! If you are staying at a Disney Resort you can of course make reservations with the concierge.

Disney Dining Walk Ins

These can sometimes work. If you don’t have a Disney Dining Reservation try a walk in. Ask at the restaurant if there are any tables available. This used to work so well. Now your chances are limited. Disney dining is very popular!

Tips for Getting The Disney Dining Reservation of Your Dreams

Some Advance Dining Reservations are more difficult to get than others. The are two Disney restaurants renowned as almost impossible to get a reservation for. These are for Cinderella’s Royal Table in Magic Kingdom and Le Cellier in Epcot Canada Pavilion. You have to call or get online the second the reservation window of opportunity opens.

If you have a large party then you may have a much better chance of getting a Disney dining reservation if you can be flexible. It may be easier to book 2 tables. Cast Members at Disney restaurants are as accommodating as they are able to be. They may be able to seat you together when you arrive. Just don’t be upset if this is not possible. They will try their best to help most of the time.

Don’t give up if you are not successful with your first choice of restaurant. Keep trying. Sometimes there are cancellations which free up a table. If you do not want to keep your reservation then cancel the reservation. This helps other guests by freeing up reservations.

Try a walk in. Sometimes you are pleasantly surprised with success!

Some Disney Dining Restaurant Advance Dining Reservations Need A Credit Card Guarantee

Walt Disney World dining reservations

Some of the Disney restaurants need a credit card guarantee to make a dining reservation.

The list of these restaurants needing a credit card seems to get longer. It used to be rare but now the list is getting longer. If you do not cancel the Disney World dining reservation within a certain time ahead you will be charged a fee per guest. Usually this is $10 but can be higher so be sure to check. The cancellation window is usually a day but some are 2 days. Be sure to check.

Here are the restaurants currently needing a credit card guarantee:

1900 Park Fare at The Grand Floridian Resort
Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall
Artist Point
Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom
California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Cinderella’s Royal Table
Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show
Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue
Mickey’s Backyard BBQ

We know that making a Disney World Dining Reservation up to 6 months in advance can seem like way too much planning. But when you get to Disney World you will be very glad that you did!

Disney World Character Dining

Disney Cape May Cafe

Disney’s Cape May Cafe is located inside the Disney Beach Club Resort Hotel. It offers a character breakfast and an all you care to eat dinner. This is one of the character breakfasts which is sometimes overlooked as it is in a Disney hotel resort location, so it can be easier to get reservations than for some of the other character dining restaurants.

Photos by bestofwdw

The restaurant is relatively small by Disney buffet standards. The nautical theme in the restaurant is done very well and the space is bright and airy. A nice touch is that all the tables have huge sheets of paper on them and your server will give you crayons so you can all have fun drawing on the table.

The breakfast is a good choice if you want to see the characters. The atmosphere, as with all the character breakfasts is lively and loud! The characters spend a good amount of time at each table and the food is good quality.

Dinner is a treat if you like seafood. If you are not a huge fan then there are other choices but really to get the most out of the Clambake at least one of your party really should love seafood.

The buffet set up is not the most ideal in Disney. It is quite small and lines do form around the seafood side of the buffet. So patience is required!

House of Blues Downtown Disney

The House of Blues in Downtown Disney Orlando is perhaps one of the more grown up dining venues at this destination. Sure children are very welcome here but with the House of Blues combination of restaurant, bar and music it is a great place to visit if you are looking for something at little different in Disney World.

Photos by wbeem

The Crossroads House of Blues is certainly one of the most interestingly themed restaurants in Downtown Disney. Yes it is a restaurant but it’s foundation is as a place to hear great music. The next door Music Hall venue hosts live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. It also plays host to the famous House of Blues Gospel Sunday Brunch every week. There is a large and lively outdoor bar which is a great place to relax and have a drink with friends.

Don’t let the broken down looking exterior fool you. Of course this is all part of the effect that the House of Blues wants to create. Think of that off the beaten track restaurant that all the locals know and love – this is the back story of the House of Blues restaurant. And the music is not just the Blues. The music spirit of the restaurant is Rhythm and Blues, Gospel, Jazz and good ole Rock & Roll.

The inside is incredibly vibrant and colorful. Take some time to look around and really explore the colorful art. Even the ceiling is beautifully decorated. The wooden tables and booths are comfortable and pretty well spread out. There is a very small stage where live music is sometimes played. One of the main attractions is the huge B.B Blues Bar. Definitely a place to while away the hours if you have some time.

The Crossroads at House of Blues restaurant menu is designed by celebrity chef Aaron Sanchez. The food is described as a mixture between American and International dishes.

Planet Hollywood Downtown Disney

The Planet Hollywood Downtown Disney restaurant has always been one of the most popular dining destinations since it was first opened. You really do have to give Planet Hollywood full marks for visual impact. The restaurant exterior looks more like a theme park attraction than a place to dine. The exterior of the building is a giant blue planet with a huge Planet Hollywood sign at the top. The entrance looks more like Space Mountain than a restaurant!

The Planet Hollywood restaurants rose quickly to fame in part because of those famous original backers, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzanegger, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. The restaurant was a runaway success when it was first launched and the chain once had over 100 restaurants. Unfortunately now those days are over and the chain has downsized to just 20 and the celebrity backers have long since moved on. But the glamor of Planet Hollywood remains and it still attracts very large crowds at it’s Downtown Disney location.

The big attraction for many visitors to Planet Hollywood is of course the movie memorabilia on display inside. There are lot of interesting movie props and memorabilia. You can spend as much time as you want to browsing around the restaurant.

The food is very standard American diner fare but with a big mark up for the venue. The menu choice is huge, and so will your check be, but if you come here for the atmosphere and the novelty factor then it is probably something you should experience – if only for one time.

Here is a menu for you to browse so you can make a choice to see if Planet Hollywood is the Downtown Disney restaurant for you.

Disney World offers some very unique dining choices and sometimes it can get overwhelming to choose which ones the kids are really going to love. Disney Sci Fi Dine In Theater

Think diner food in one of the most unique restaurants in Walt Disney World and here you have the Sci Fi Dine in Theater. The kids are going to find this Disney Hollywood Studios restaurant a whole lot of fun. Step back to the 1950s for some traditional diner food in a restaurant which looks as though you have stepped right into a movie drive in. The first thing that you will notice is of course the tables which look like convertible cars all lined up in front of a huge movie screen. The second thing you as an adult will notice is how loud and dark the room is! The fun here is about the design and the atmosphere so make sure that you ask to sit at one of the convertible car tables as there are some picnic style tables at the back of the restaurant which you will probably want to avoid.

The food here is not the best in Disney World. You come here for the atmosphere. And usually because the kids really want to go here. Expect average food at high prices and you won’t be disappointed.

Disney Princess Storybook Dining

The Akershus restaurant in Epcot World Showcase is home to the very popular Disney Princess Storybook Dining. If you want to give your kids one of the best chances to meet and talk with the Disney Princesses then this is a great opportunity. You can never guarantee that a certain character will actually appear but you do often find Princess Aurora, Belle, Ariel, Princess Jasmine and Snow White.

You have a choice of breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Disney Princess Once Upon a Time Breakfast offers pre plated all you can eat breakfast favorites. The Princess Storybook Lunch and the Dinner are a combination of all you care to eat buffet items and entrees which you order from the menu. The quality of the food is pretty average but really you go here for the great chance to meet the Princesses not for the food.

The price of the meal includes a photo package. For more information here is our guide at

Disney’s Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Villa Resort

There are very few restaurants in the world where you can dine whilst looking out of the window to watch zebras, giraffe and other wildlife passing by. Sanaa is located at the Animal Kingdom Villas at Kidani Village. There is a huge picture window overlooking the savannah. One of the best times to go is lunch time as of course you can see the animals passing by outside. This is a very unique experience for all the family, not just the kids!

This is one of the lesser known Disney restaurants but it is also one of the most spectacular and if you are prepared to be a little adventurous it also has some of the very best food.

The menu is described as being African food with Indian influences. What this translates to is a very high quality interesting menu with such items as Tandoori Chicken, various curries, spicy side dishes and naan breads. Don’t be concerned if the kids are more of the mac and cheese preferring kind! Sanaa has the usual kids menu offerings of pizza, cheeseburger and macaroni and cheese.

Chef Mickey’s is a very popular character dining experience for all the family. It is particularly great for young children as it is chance to get up close to Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Chef Mickey’s is located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort which is just minutes away from the Magic Kingdom. Breakfast and dinner are served each day.

Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Chip and Dale are usually there at breakfast. Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald Duck usually go for dinner. As with all character appearances these are subject to change.

The food is good quality buffet fare and there is plenty of choice for even the pickiest eaters. This is very popular with young children so go there expecting a noisy, fun atmosphere and you won’t go far wrong!

Cinderella’s Royal Table

Want to know how you can get a look inside Cinderella’s Castle? Be one of the lucky ones who manage to snag a reservation at the most popular of the Disney Restaurants – Cinderella’s Royal Table. This is an extremely popular restaurant. Not only do you get to dine inside the Magic Kingdom Castle but you also get to meet Cinderella. You may also see The Fairy Godmother, Princess Belle, Princess Aurora and Snow White (you know I am going to say that all character appearances are not guaranteed and are subject to change without notice).

The food is pretty good and the kids (and the grown ups) will love the chance to meet their favorite Princesses.

T-Rex Cafe Restaurant in Downtown Disney

This is a relative newcomer in Walt Disney World which was created by the same people who brought you the very popular Rain Forest Cafe. The theme is of course the pre historic world so expect dinosaurs, decent but pricey food and a whole lot of noise! This is a great restaurant to take the kids and of course as it is in Downtown Disney you can visit on one of your non park days as you won’t need a ticket.

The menu at the T-Rex Cafe is definitely on the pricey side. But who can resist Asteroid French Onion Soup, Brachiosaurus Bruschetta , or a Gigantosaurus Burger? Well the kids probably can but don’t worry, there is a kids menu with the usual favorites, pizza, burgers and pasta.

Disney Crystal Palace Restaurant

The Crystal Palace is located at the end of Main Street in Magic Kingdom. It is a great place to take the kids, particularly the 5 and under set. This is one of my very favorite Disney character dining restaurants as not only do you get to meet Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore the food is also pretty good for all the family. The Crystal Palace serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. A particularly good choice is lunch as you can take a break in the middle of the day to sit down and refuel.

For a complete guide go to

Disney World Crystal Palace Restaurant

1900 Park Fare

This is another very popular Disney World character dining restaurant where at dinner you get the chance to meet Cinderella. 1900 Park Fare is located in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort so is just a very short monorail ride from the Magic Kingdom. It has some of the highest quality buffet food in the whole of Walt Disney World. Breakfast characters include Alice in Wonderland, The Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh, and Tigger. If you want to see Princess Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine, Drizella and Anastasia then they are usually scheduled to appear at dinner.

There is a special children’s buffet section which is low down so that the kids can help themselves. 1900 Park Fare is of course a very popular Disney dining location. It can get pretty busy and is rather loud but it is definitely a winner with the kids!

Hoop Dee Doo Musical Review

The Hoop Dee Doo Musical Review is a fun dinner show which has played to guests since 1974 at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. The show is practically unchanged since that time so if you are looking for Disney nostalgia which is great fun for both kids and adults then this is a wonderful choice. The show is held in Pioneer Hall which is the hub of Fort Wilderness Campground and Resort. It is very popular and shows run 3 times a night.

The food is served family style and includes breads, salad, Fried Chicken, Smoked Barbecued Pork Ribs, Mashed Potatoes, and Country Style Baked Beans. Very traditional fare. The real appeal of this experience is of course the entertainment. Table are pre assigned and the closer you are to the stage the pricier the reservation. Be prepared to be entertained by Johnny Ringo and Claire de Lune the dancers, Jim Handy and Flora Long the singers, and Six Bits Slocum and Dolly Drew provide the comedy.

Epcot Coral Reef Restaurant

Epcot Coral Reef restaurant is another great choice for both the kids and the adults. Coral Reef is a restaurant with a difference. The restaurant has a wall of 8 feet high windows which look onto the huge salt water aquarium. which is part of the Seas With Nemo and Friends pavilion in Epcot Future World. Sit and eat your meal whilst you watch up to 85 species of fish in the giant tank. Perhaps more entertaining for the children is the fact that often you can see divers float past your table.

Whilst the concept of Epcot Coral Reef is an excellent one and the decor and theme are a brilliant idea, reviews are mixed about the food and the service. Here is my review at:

Whichever restaurant you choose in Walt Disney World there are plenty of options to keep the kids (and the grown ups) happy. Which is your favorite Disney restaurant? Leave me a Comment!

Disney World Birthday Ideas

Are you celebrating your birthday at Walt Disney World and want some ideas of things that you can do to make the day special. Disney World is a great place to spend any day but it is always a lot of fun to spend your birthday at the parks. So what is there to do on your birthday?

Disney World Free Things to Do on Your Birthday

If you are staying at one of the Disney World resorts then always tell the Cast Members at the time you make the reservation and at the time that you check in that someone is celebrating a birthday. They will usually ask you what your favorite Disney character is and arrange for something special like balloons and perhaps even a small cup cake or dessert treat to be brought to your room. I have done this many times – sometimes it works and sometimes not but it doesn’t hurt to try.

Another fun and free thing to do is go to Guest Services at the parks and ask for a Birthday Pin. This is a fun keepsake but also when you wear this most Cast Members will say Happy Birthday to you when they see it. If you have an autograph book with you the characters will often put a special birthday greeting in there for you.

Disney Celebration Cakes

If you are dining at any Disney World restaurant or staying at a Disney World resort you can order a customized cake for a birthday or other special celebration. Call 407-827-2253 for customized cake orders and give at least 48 hours notice. The cake can be delivered to your room or any Disney full service restaurant.

If you just want a 6″ celebration cake you can order these at the check in podium of any Disney restaurant. You can also order these via your concierge or front desk at any Disney resort if you want it to be delivered to your room. They do not need to be ordered in advance like the customized cakes. The cost for this celebration cake is $21 plus tax and gratuity.

If you do not want to buy a cake then mention the fact that there is someone with a birthday in your party at any Disney restaurant and they will usually bring a small cup cake with a candle in it for you.

Goofy Party Central

If you want to celebrate a child’s birthday with a party at Disney World then Goofy Party Central is a great option. Parties are held every day by advance reservation in a special party room at Goofy’s Candy Company in Downtown Disney. All parties are 90 minutes long and are for guests aged 3 and up. To reserve your party call 407-WDW-BDAY.

The rate for Goofy Party Central for up to 12 guests is $367.38. You can add up to 3 more guests for $25 each. Each party includes 2 hosts, invitations and thank you cards for your guests. There are 2 theme choices for your party:

The Perfectly Princess Party

Perfect for your little Princesses birthday when she will receive a crown, a sash, a boxed glass slipper and mylar balloon. Guests play Perfectly Princess party games, decorate a special treat and receive an autographed picture of Cinderella, a glow necklace and a balloon.

Goofy’s Scien-Terrific Birthday Bash

A Goofy themed birthday party for your special day. The birthday child will receive a Goofy gum ball machine and a mylar balloon. Guests play Goofy games, decorate a treat and get a Goofy glacier cup. They will receive special glow glasses, a party balloon and an autographed picture of Goofy.

Celebrate at a Special Disney World Restaurant

There are lots of amazing Disney World restaurants to choose from for your birthday celebration. Whatever your age there is something that you will really enjoy for your special day.

For younger children a special character meal is a great idea. Here is a guide to the choices available:

However you celebrate your Disney World birthday you will be sure to have a magical and memorable day!

Disney World Dining Plan

How does the Disney World Dining Plan actually work? And does it save you money? There are many benefits of staying in a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel and the choice of whether to opt for the Disney Dining Plan is one of the perks you get with staying onsite.

What is the Disney Dining Plan?

The Disney Dining Plan is an add on option which can be part of the Magic Your Way Package. This is available to all guests at a Disney Resort Hotel who also have a Disney World ticket as part of the package. This option is not available to guests at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dophin because they are not Disney owned property even though they are onsite.

Guests pay a set price for each member of your party and then you are given dining credits to use for meals at Disney World. How many credits you get and how you can use them depends upon the type of Dining Plan that you choose. You do not have to use the same amount of credits on each day. So for instance you could have 4 snacks one day and none another, or 2 full service dining meals one day and skip them the next.

At any time you use a Dining Credit the amount of Credits remaining will show on your receipt so that you can keep track of where you are.

So that Disney Resort guests can take maximum advantage of the Dining Plan it is essential that they learn about each different Dining Plan. It is a good idea to learn how it works and the costs of each before you decide if it is right for your party. Usually the Dining Plan does save you money but the more you know about how it works the better decision you can make. There are several different options.

Disney World Quick Service Dining Plan

The Quick Service is the most basic of the Disney Dining Plans and includes two quick service meals and two snacks per person for each night stayed at the Disney resort. You also get a resort refilable mug which can be refiled only at your home resort.

A Quick Service meal includes entrée or complete combo meal and non-alcoholic beverage at breakfast; entrée or complete combo meal, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage at lunch & dinner.

For 2011 the cost per person per night is $34.99 per adult and $11.99 per child aged 3 to 9. Disney says that this Quick Service Plan can save you up to 15%. I have never been a huge fan of the Quick Service Dining Plan and the changes for 2012 can only make it less desirable as the amount it includes will reduce.

There are changes coming to the Quick Service Dining Plan in 2012 when the number of snacks is reduced to 1 from 2 per day. The plan will still includes two Quick service meal per guest per day.
The Quick Service dining option will still cost $34.99 per night per adult and $11.99 per night for children (ages 3-9) in 2012. So whilst the price is the same the benefit is reduced by around $3 to $5 a day as this is what a snack would cost to purchase.

Disney World Magic Your Way Plus Dining

This is the plan which is probably the best value for the majority of guests visiting Walt Disney World. Disney says that you can save as much as 40% on this Plan.

This Disney Dining Plan option includes 1 table service meal, 1 counter service and 1 snack per person per day.

The table service meal includes one entree, one dessert (lunch/dinner only) and one non-alcoholic beverage OR one full buffet.

The price of this Disney Dining Plan depends upon when you are visiting. The cost in Regular Season is $45.99 per adult and $11.99 per child aged 3 to 9, and for Peak Season $47.99 per adult and $12.99 per child aged 3 to 9 per person per day.

Peak Seasons are the popular holiday times and always include Christmas. For 2011 this is 12/23/11 to 12/31/11.

Be aware too that gratuities are not included in full service meals. So this will be an additional expense.

Disney Deluxe Dining Plan

This covers a lot of food! Guests can have 3 meal credits a day and choose from either Quick Service or Full Service Restaurants. A full service meal includes One Appetizer, one entree, one dessert (lunch/dinner only) and one non-alcoholic beverage OR one full buffet. So technically you could have 3 buffets a day on this plan! 2 Snacks and a Resort Refillable Mug are also included.

This option can be useful if you want to have every possibility covered. It includes so much food it is unlikely that you will actually save money unless you are going to go to the Signature Dining Restaurants which require 2 Dining Credits. If this is the case then you should look at the Deluxe Dining Plan to see if it will be of benefit. Also if you want to have a buffet breakfast and a full service meal each day then this would make sense for you.

The price of the Deluxe Dining Plan for 2011 is $78.99 for adults and $21.99 for children aged 3 to 9.

Disney Wine and Dine Plan

This is a way to pre purchase a wine package for your stay at Walt Disney World. The cost is $39.99 and you choose a bottle of wine each day of your stay from a pre selected list. Again this is only going to be a saving if you know that you will purchase premium wines each night.

Does the Disney Dining Plan Save You Money?

The simple answer is yes the Disney Dining Plan does save money. It also provides the convenience of knowing that your meal costs are all taken care of as part of a package. How much you save depends upon your individual taste and also how well you plan. There is such a vast array of choice and different pricing of each option that it is almost impossible to work out how much you will save. Certain snacks are priced at more than others, different restaurants have different prices. It actually can get a little stressful working it all out if you are determined to get every last bit of value out of a Dining Plan. I know. I have tried! But so long as you just eat what you want and understand the basics of the different plans for most guests they are a money saving idea.

Of course the best option is the Disney World Free Dining Plan which is offered from time to time. This is usually offered at quieter times and is always one of the most popular Disney World Hotel offers.

Disney World Coffee

Let’s be honest here. It is not that easy to find a good cup of coffee at Walt Disney World. Fortunately there are some good options for coffee in the parks and resorts at Disney – it just takes a little know how to find something better than your standard cup of regular or decaf coffee. So if you prefer something other than the standard Nescafe which is offered here are some places to go:

Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Boma

Boma is one of my favorite restaurants. This is one of the best buffets in the whole of Disney World and it also happens to serve some pretty decent coffee too.

The Kenya AA is served in a French press pot and is well worth the extra cost if you really don’t like the usual blend that is served as part of the included beverage part of the buffet.

Epcot World Showcase

Epcot World Showcase is your best bet for good coffee options at Walt Disney World. As you would expect, the best advice is to head to the Epcot France and Epcot Italy Pavilions. In my extensive research Italy has a slight edge over France here. The cappucino in Tutto Italia wins over the cup offered in Chefs de France. The Italians even take it pretty well that you are ordering a cup of coffee with milk in it past noon – something which is simply not done if you are an Italian native. Order esspresso after your meal if you want to blend in with the locals!

If you are looking for something a little different then try the excellent Restaurant Marakesh in the Moroccan Pavilion. This is not to everyone’s taste but worth a try.

If you are looking to grab a quick cup of coffee without dining in a restaurant then again France and Italy are the best choices. The disadvantage of course is that it will be served in a disposable cup – never the greatest option for good coffee. Tutto Italia has a kiosk at the front of the Italy Pavilion. The coffee in the French Boulangerie-Patisserie is a disappointment. You would expect that they would serve up good coffee but unfortunately it is Nescafe from a machine!

Kona Cafe at the Polynesian Resort

Many guests say that the coffee at the Kona Cafe at the Polynesian Resort is the best coffee in Disney World. The Kona Cafe serves coffee in a French Press pot which is enough to serve 2 people for $7.49. You can also order Espresso, Cappuccino , Cafe Latte and Cafe Mocha

Disney World Signature Restaurants

All of the Disney World Signature Restaurants serve coffee in a French Press Pot. These restaurants include Artist’s Point, California Grill, Citricos, Jiko, Le Cellier, Narcoossee’s, Hollywood Brown Derby, Victoria and Albert’s and The Yatchsman Steakhouse. Whilst this coffee is better than the Nescafe blend served in the other restaurants in Disney World it still isn’t anything to get too excited about.

Joffrey’s Coffee and Tea is offered at several kiosk in Disney World locations including The Transport and Ticket Center, Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, Tusker House and kiosks in Animal Kingdom, and The Yacht and Beach Club Hotel Resorts.

If you really can’t go without your Starbucks then it is a little difficult but not impossible to find on Disney property. It is available in Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels (in the Epcot resort area so quite a hike if you really can’t do without your Starbucks fix), Shades of Green Resort and Regal Sun at Downtown Disney.

The amazing quality and diversity of food choices in Walt Disney World is exceptional. The almost complete lack of a decent cup of coffee is remarkable. My personal favorite? The espresso at Tutto Ilalia.

So what is a Disney World guest who really needs good quality coffee every day to do? Take an individual French Press Cup and a supply of Illy Coffee and make your own!

Disney World Character Dining

Are you trying to decide if Disney World Character Dining is for you? A great tradition of a Disney World vacation is to dine with the characters. There are plenty of different Disney restaurants to choose from. This guide will show you which restaurants offer character dining, give you an overview of the menus and help you decide is Disney World Character Dining is the best option for you and your family.

Disney World Character Dining Tips

Disney character dining is very popular. As soon as you have decided that this is what you want to do then you should make Advance Dining Reservations either online at Disney Dining Reservations or call 407 WDW DINE. Reservations can be made up to 180 days ahead. Walt Disney World Resort guests do have an advantage because they can start to book 180 days ahead for the whole of their vacation time (for up to 10 days).

Some restaurants will need a credit card guarantee. Make sure that you note this when you make your Advance Dining Reservations and if you wish to cancel that you do so in the time stated. Or your card will be charged whether you dine or not.

What happens at a character meal? Most, although not all, of the meals are buffets. The characters will visit each table in turn and there will be a chance to take photos and get their autograph.

The Disney characters are excellent at interacting with the guests. They are very well aware that some children may be rather overwhelmed by seeing even their favorite character in life size form! So they will get the message if your child really does not want to come out from underneath the table, but they will also do their very best to coax them out!

For each Disney restaurant there will be a list of characters who are expected to appear. This is just a guide and not a guarantee. Remember even Cinderella needs a rest sometimes.

Where are the Disney World Character Dining locations?

Cinderella’s Royal Table

This is by far the most popular restaurant in the whole of Walt Disney World. The reason? It is located inside Cinderella’s Castle. To get a reservation here you really do have to plan ahead and book absolutely as soon as you possibly can.

Breakfast is served at Cinderella’s Royal Table from 8.00am to 11.15am every day. The price is $44.80 for adults and $29.86 for children aged 3 to 9. The food is all you care to eat which is brought plated to your table. The selection includes, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, French toast, yoghurt, granola and fresh fruit. Beverage choices include coffee, tea, juice, soda and milk.

As part of the all inclusive price you will receive a photo package which includes photos of your party with the characters.

As will all character dining you are never sure which characters will appear but usually you will see Cinderella, Fairy Godmother, Aurora, Snow White and Belle.

Lunch is priced at $48.54 for adults and $31.11 for children A photo package is included and of course you can buy extra photos if you wish to add to these.

Guests choose from a selection of Entrees including Pork Tenderloin, Major Domo’s Favorite Pie and Pasta Al Pomodoro. There is a children’s selection which of Chicken Strips, Pretzel Dogs and Bakes Pasta Marinara.

The desserts are a choice of No Sugar Sorbet, Chocolate Cream Cheese Buckle and Castle Made Rice Pudding.

Dinner with Cinderella is $54.76 for adults and $33.60 for children aged 3 to 9. Again a photo package is included in the price.

You choose an appetizer, entree and dessert. The appetizer selection is not very inspiring with a choice of Mixed Green Salad, Rock Shrimp Cocktail, Cheese Board or Soup. Entrees include Pork Chop, Duck Confit, Fried Chicken, Beef Tenderloin or Vegetarian Cassoulet.

Opinions are very divided on whether Cinderella’s Royal Table is it worth it or not. If you want the location then this really can’t be beaten. But the food is not the best in Walt Disney World – you are paying a premium for the location and experience.

The Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom

Crystal Palace is located at the end of Main Street close to Cinderella’s Castle. And in my opinion serves much better food, certainly for a much better price. The characters are Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore.

Breakfast is served between 8.30am and 10.30am. This is an all you can eat buffet with lots of selections. The menu items do change regularly but you will always find the usual favorites of scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, fruit and pastries. The cost of this character breakfast is $22.99 for adults and $12.99 for children aged 3 to 9. Tax and gratuity are extra.

Lunch is $24.99 for adults and $13.99 for children not including tax and gratuity. This is an all you can eat buffet with lots of choice. A particular favorite of mine is the Fruit and Vegetable Tofu Curry. To finish off there is plenty of choice of desserts. Why not try the Bread and Butter Pudding with Bailey’s Irish Cream Sauce?

Dinner also has a very good buffet selection including Peel and Eat Shrimp, Tropical Slaw, Prime Rib, Roasted Turkey, Chicken Fingers, Roasted Pork and Cheese Pizza. Favorite desserts include Key Lime Pie, Tiramisu and Double Chocolate Brownies.

This is one of my favorite choices when dining in Magic Kingdom. For a complete guide with menus go to:

Princess Storybook Dining

Once upon a time the Akershus restaurant in the Norway Pavilion in Epcot was one of my favorite Disney dining experiences. However that has all changed! Some years ago the restaurant was taken over by the Disney Princesses. Whilst it is a great chance to meet the Princesses in my opinion it is probably the worst buffet food in the whole of Walt Disney World.

Having said that it is a great place to go if you have Disney Princess fans in your party. Akershus Royal Banquet Hall serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. As part of the price you pay for the meal you receive a photo package.

This is a good place to see the Princesses but if you want to have a better chance of seeing Cinderella then Cinderella’s Royal Table or dinner at 1900 Park Fare are better bets. A selection of Disney Princesses appear at each Storybook meal and include Ariel, Belle, Snow White, Mulan and sometimes Mary Poppins (not sure that she counts as a Disney Princess)!

Breakfast is $39.40 for adults and $23.42 for children aged 3 to 9. Breakfast is served family style and includes fruit, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, potato casserole, biscuits and cinnamon rolls.

Lunch pricing is $41.53 for adults and $24.49 for children aged 3 to 9. There is a small buffet table with a selection of salads, seafood, meat and cheese. Your can choose an entree from the menu. This includes such items as Salmon Burger, Venison Sausage Sandwich, and Mushroom Stuffed Pasta. There is a children’s selection too which includes pizza and hot dogs. There is a dessert plate which is brought to the table with a selection of desserts.

Dinner is the same menu as lunch and is priced at $46.85 for adults and $25.55 for children aged 3 to 9.

Garden Grill

This innovative restaurant is located in the Land Pavilion in Epcot Future World. This is a slowly revolving restaurant with views into the LIving With The Land boat ride. You dine with Mickey Mouse, Pluto and Chip ‘n’ Dale.

Dinner is served from 4pm daily and costs $34.99 for adults and $16.99 for children aged 3 to 9. All food is served family style and is brought plated to your table. It includes, breads, salad, Beef Strip Loin, Roasted Turkey, Fish, Vegetables, Potatoes and a dessert of Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp. Children have their own platter of Chicken Drumsticks, Mac and Cheese, Broccoli and Sweet Potato Sticks. For dessert there is Mickey Mousse Cookies and Cream.

Playhouse Disney’s Play and Dine at Hollywood and Vine

This is a great option if you have younger children. The Playhouse Disney gang of June, Leo, Hanny Manny and Special Agent Oso from Little Einsteins entertain children for breakfast and lunch at Hollywood and Vine in DIsney’s Hollywood Studios. Dinner is not with the characters.

Breakfast is a buffet with all the usual favorites costing $26.99 for adults and $14.99 for children aged 3 to 9.

There is also a character buffet for lunch priced at $28.99 for adults and $14.99 for children. The menu items vary but will include salads, seafood, meat and vegetarian entree selections. Of course there are some nice dessert options too.

Donald’s Safari Breakfast at Tusker House

This is the only character dining choice in Disney’s Animal Kingdom park. It is an all you can eat breakfast buffet with characters. The cost is $24.49 for adults and $10.99 for children aged 3 to 9.

There is a large selection of breakfast items including Ham and Cheese Frittata, Yam Casserole, Cheese Blintzes, Corned Beef Hash and Scrambled Eggs.

Goofy’s Beach Club Breakfast Buffet

This is located in the Disney Beach Club at Cape May Cafe each morning. The price is $26.99 for adults and $12.99 for children for a good selection breakfast all you can eat buffet. You will usually see Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Donald in their beach wear!

Chef Mickey

Chef Mickey is located in the Disney Contemporary Resort and is one of the best and most popular of the character buffets.

Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto and Chip and Dale are usually to be found here at breakfast.

You can eat breakfast and dinner at Chef Mickey’s. Breakfast is priced at $26.62 for adults and $13.99 for children aged 3 to 9. There is a large selection of cereals, fruit, pastries and cooked items including Mickey Waffles and Minnie’s Breakfast Pizza.

Chef Mickey’s is also open for dinner from 5pm to 9.30pm with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto and Donald Duck. The price is $34.07 for adults and $17.03 for children aged 3 to 9. The menu varies but has a large selection of items including a specialty carved item.

1900 Park Fare

In my opinion 1900 Park Fare has the best food of all the Disney character dining choices. This restaurant is located in the Disney World Grand Florida Resort.

The Supercalifragilistic Breakfast is attended by Mary Poppins, Alice and The Mad Hatter. Even though the Mad Hatter has to be the most annoying person to see at breakfast this character meal is a real treat. There is a large and varied selection on the buffet including strawberry and apple turnovers, pecan sticky bun, Challah bread, omelets, bacon, apple cobbler and French toast.

Breakfast is priced at $22.36 for adults and $12.77 for adults plus tax and gratuity.

Dinner is served from 4.30pm to 8.30pm and costs $35.99 for adults and $17.99 for children plus tax and gratuity. This is the best place to see Cinderella (apart from Cinderella’s Royal Table). There is a lot of choice for the dinner buffet which includes, prime rib, turkey, salmon with butter sauce, pork loin and mussels.

My Disney Girl’s Perfectly Princess Tea

This character dining experience is also located in the Grand Floridian Resort. This is very much a whole experience rather than being just about the food as this is a wonderful, but expensive, chance to go to a very special tea party with Princess Aurora. The $250 price tag includes a collectable doll, a tiara, bracelet, a scrapbook , a rose and a certificate. The $250 includes admission for one child and one adult. Addtional adult guests are $100 and a child is $150. Tax is not included.

Guests also have tea including sandwiches, cheese briquettes, lavosh crackers and fruit. For the children there is juice, fruit, and sandwiches.

Lilo and Stitch Best Friends Character Breakfast

Another chance to have a character dining experience without park admission. This Character Breakfast is at the Polynesian Resort Disney World Florida..

Breakfast is priced at $20.99 for adults and $11.99 for children aged 3 to 9. Mikey, Pluto, Lilo and Stitch are in attendance for breakfast. There is a limited choice of breakfast items and it is served family style.

Garden Grove Cafe

This is one of the lesser known character breakfasts and there are character appearances only on Saturday and Sundays in the Walt Disney World Swan hotel. The price is $20.99 for adults and $12.99 for children. There is a good selection of breakfast items. Unusually for a Disney character breakfast there is no advance reservation system.

Don’t overlook this breakfast venue, even when the characters aren’t there. It is usually quieter and has a very high quality selection of items The only downside is the slightly out of the way location in the outer reaches of the Epcot resort area.

Should You Go For A Disney Character Meal?

Really it is one of those things which you absolutely have to do at least once. Take some time to pick the experience which you think you will enjoy. They really are quite different from each other both in terms of food and experience, but there is something to please everyone.
