Is The Disney Cruise Wine Package Actually Worth It? Let’s Do The Math

Sharing is caring!

If you enjoy wine, one of the things you might be wondering before a Disney Cruise is whether you should buy one of the Disney Cruise Line wine packages.

Disney doesn’t have the traditional unlimited alcohol package that you’ll find on some other cruise lines.

Instead, you can buy wine by the glass, buy individual bottles, bring your own wine onboard, or choose one of the Disney Cruise Line wine packages.

disneycruisewinepackage

There are two packages:

Classic and Premium.

And you can choose a package containing 3, 4, 5 or 7 bottles.

But there is something I wanted to look at more closely.

Does the wine package actually save you money?

Disney says the wine packages can save you up to 25% per bottle. This is a bold claim – and one which for most really won’t be the reality.

I’ve looked at the current package prices, the wines included in the package and, importantly, Disney Cruise Line wine lists showing what those same wines cost if you simply buy a bottle.

I’ve also included the Palo wine list because some of the wines offered in the Premium package also appear on the Palo list.

And once you do the math properly, the answer is a little more complicated than simply saying:

“The wine package saves you 25%.”

Because I really don’t think it does…

How Much Are The Disney Cruise Line Wine Packages?

The current prices I am working with are correct in August 2026.

Number of bottlesClassicPremium
3 bottles$123$183
4 bottles$158$241
5 bottles$188$295
7 bottles$259$388

An 18% gratuity is added to the package price.

So let’s actually work out what you are paying.

Classic package

Three bottles:

$123 + 18% = $145.14

That’s $48.38 per bottle.

Four bottles:

$158 + 18% = $186.44

That’s $46.61 per bottle.

Five bottles:

$188 + 18% = $221.84

That’s $44.37 per bottle.

Seven bottles:

$259 + 18% = $305.62

That’s $43.66 per bottle.

Premium package

Three bottles:

$183 + 18% = $215.94

That’s $71.98 per bottle.

Four bottles:

$241 + 18% = $284.38

That’s $71.10 per bottle.

Five bottles:

$295 + 18% = $348.10

That’s $69.62 per bottle.

Seven bottles:

$388 + 18% = $457.84

That’s $65.41 per bottle.

And that gives us the number we really need.

For a seven-bottle package, you’re effectively paying:

$43.66 per bottle for Classic

or

$65.41 per bottle for Premium.

What Wines Can You Choose?

And that last wine is where things get particularly interesting.

So Let’s Actually Compare The Prices

wineondisneycruise

Here we look at what the savings really are.

Let’s say you are buying the seven-bottle Classic package.

After the 18% gratuity, that works out at:

$43.66 per bottle.

Now take an eligible Classic wine from the regular wine list.

Beringer White Zinfandel

The bottle price on the wine list is $30.

Add 18% gratuity:

$35.40

The Classic package costs:

$43.66

So in this case, buying the bottle individually is $8.26 cheaper.

That’s not a saving from the package.

Selbach Riesling Kabinett

The bottle price is $36.

With 18%:

$42.48

Classic package:

$43.66

So you’re actually paying $1.18 more with the package.

Hess Chardonnay

The bottle price is also $36.

With gratuity:

$42.48

Classic package:

$43.66

Again, buying it individually is $1.18 cheaper.

Kendall-Jackson Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay

The bottle price is $39.

With 18%:

$46.02

Classic package:

$43.66

Now the package is saving you:

$2.36 per bottle.

Not a huge saving, but a genuine saving.

Murphy-Goode Sauvignon Blanc

The bottle price is $35.

With gratuity:

$41.30

Classic package:

$43.66

Buying it individually is $2.36 cheaper.

Robert Mondavi Merlot

The bottle is $34.

With gratuity:

$40.12

Classic package:

$43.66

So again, buying the bottle individually saves you $3.54.

And this is why I think it’s important to look at the actual wines rather than simply saying that the package is always a better deal.

The Classic Package Break-Even Point

For the seven-bottle Classic package, the answer is actually very simple.

You’re paying $43.66 per bottle including gratuity.

So an individual bottle needs to have a menu price of approximately $37 or more before gratuity for the package to start being cheaper.

disneycruiselinewinessave

So:

Below $37: buying individually is cheaper.

Around $37: roughly break-even.

Above $37: the Classic package starts saving money.

Now Let’s Look At Premium

The seven-bottle Premium package works out at:

$65.41 per bottle including gratuity.

So again, we need to compare that with the individual bottle price including the same 18% gratuity.

The break-even point is approximately:

$55.43 before gratuity.

Anything below that and you’re generally better off buying individually.

Anything above that and the Premium package starts looking more attractive.

La Crema Chardonnay

The bottle on the wine list is $49.

Add 18%:

$57.82

Premium package:

$65.41

So in this case, buying the bottle individually is actually $7.59 cheaper.

That’s a really important result.

Just because La Crema is on the Premium list doesn’t mean the Premium package is automatically cheaper.

Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc

The bottle price is $45.

With 18%:

$53.10

Premium package:

$65.41

So buying the bottle individually saves you:

$12.31.

Again, the package isn’t the better deal.

Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio

The bottle on the wine list is $44.

With 18%:

$51.92

Premium package:

$65.41

Buying the bottle individually saves:

$13.49.

That’s quite a difference.

But Then We Get To The More Expensive Wines

Now things change.

Conundrum

The bottle price is $57.

With 18%:

$67.26

Premium package:

$65.41

So the package saves approximately:

$1.85 per bottle.

Not a huge saving, but the package has finally crossed the line.

Pouilly-Fuissé

The bottle price is $59.

With gratuity:

$69.62

Premium package:

$65.41

The package saves:

$4.21 per bottle.

And now we’re starting to see why the Premium package can make sense.

But the really interesting comparison is at Palo.

The Palo Wine List Makes This Even More Interesting

disneypalowinelist

I have also been looking at the Palo wine list from Disney Cruise Line.

And there are some eye-opening prices on it.

For example, the Palo list has:

Santa Margherita Prosecco — $39

Banfi Rosa Regale — $56

Ferrari Brut — $63

Ferrari Rosé — $65

And Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva — $71.

The list then goes dramatically higher, with wines costing hundreds of dollars and some reserve bottles costing well over $1,000.

But we’re interested in the wines that overlap with the package.

Banfi Rosa Regale

The Palo list shows Banfi Rosa Regale at:

$56 a bottle

Add 18%:

$66.08

The seven-bottle Premium package:

$65.41 per bottle

So the Premium package saves approximately:

67 cents per bottle.

That’s basically a break-even point.

And this is a great example of why you need to look at the actual numbers.

It’s not some huge saving.

It’s less than a dollar.

Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva

This is much more interesting.

Palo lists the bottle at:

$71

Add 18%:

$83.78

Premium package:

$65.41

So you’re saving:

$18.37 per bottle

if you’re comparing the seven-bottle Premium package with buying that bottle individually at Palo.

That’s a genuine saving.

It is the same wine.

But I wonder if you order it with the package and it is actually available – I feel as though I am going to have to try this on my next cruise.

Here’s The Comparison In One Table

Seven-bottle package comparison

Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva at Palo$71$83.78$65.41 Premium$18.37 saved

However, lets look at that 25% claim.

I can’t find it.

Even the Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva is a 20.9% saving.

I really can’t find the highest saving that DCL claim.

So Is The Disney Wine Package Worth It?

My answer is:

Sometimes.

And I actually think that is much more useful than simply telling you to buy it.

If you’re buying the seven-bottle Classic package, you’re effectively paying $43.66 per bottle.

If the bottle you want is $30, don’t buy the package.

If it’s $35, don’t buy the package.

If it’s $39, now you’re getting into package territory.

The Premium package is similar.

At $65.41 per bottle, you’re really looking for wines costing around $55 or more before gratuity to make the package financially worthwhile.

And if you’re choosing something like the Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva that Palo sells for $71, the numbers work very well.

But There’s Something Else To Consider

I don’t think the wine package is only about saving money.

There’s also the convenience.

Disney has rotational dining, so your dining room changes during the cruise.

Your dining team moves with you.

And your unfinished bottle of wine can move with you too.

If you don’t finish it at dinner, your server can keep it for you and bring it back the next evening. You can also take it back to your stateroom if you prefer.

You’re not restricted to drinking one bottle per evening and that unfinished bottles can be carried over.

So if you’re sharing a bottle between two people, you don’t have to worry about finishing the whole thing just because you opened it.

And you don’t have to drink exactly one bottle every night either.

You can order more than one bottle from the package on an evening if you want to.

But the same is also true if you buy bottles individually. Your Server will save it for you regardless of whether you bought it as part of the wine package or individually.

What If I Don’t Use All My Bottles?

This is another thing I like about the Disney package.

If you don’t finish the package during your cruise, you aren’t simply throwing the remaining bottles away.

Subject to customs regulations you can take unopened wine bottles off the ship with you on debarkation.

So if you bought a seven-bottle package and only used five, you have the option of taking two unopened bottles home.

If you’re normally going to drink three bottles during a seven-night cruise, buying seven because the per-bottle price is slightly better isn’t saving you money. It’s costing you a big premium – those $40 bottles of wine are probably around $20 or less at home.

You’re still spending money you wouldn’t otherwise have spent.

What About Bringing Your Own Wine?

There is another option that is particularly worth considering if you already have a bottle of wine you love.

Disney allows guests aged 21 and over to bring one unopened bottles of wine or Champagne, no more than 750ml, onboard at embarkation, provided they are carried in your carry-on luggage rather than checked baggage.

You can drink it in your stateroom, but if you bring the bottle with you to the dining room there will be a $20 corkage fee.

But if you have a favorite $25 or $30 bottle at home, this can be a much better option than paying Disney’s onboard price.

Don’t Forget This Way to Save on Wine

menu for disney wish rose bar

Many Disney cruise wine drinkers don’t even know about this.

The Sommelier Bin.

This is available at select bars and you will pay $14 per glass for a “mystery” glass of sparkling, white or red wine. The Server chooses the wine from one where a bottle is already open.

I have had some wonderful wines from the Sommelier Bin. Yes, you do take a chance, but mostly I have enjoyed the wines that have been picked for me.

My Verdict

After actually doing the math, I don’t think you should buy the Disney Cruise Line wine package simply because you have heard that it saves up to 25%.

Look at the wine first.

For the seven-bottle Classic package, you’re paying approximately:

$43.66 per bottle including gratuity.

For the seven-bottle Premium package:

$65.41 per bottle including gratuity.

Then look at the wine you actually want.

If it’s below that price after the 18% gratuity, buy the bottle individually.

If it’s above that price, the package may save you money.

And this is why I think the Premium package is particularly interesting.

A bottle of Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva at Palo is $71 before gratuity, or $83.78 after gratuity.

The seven-bottle Premium package works out at $65.41 per bottle including gratuity.

That’s an $18.37 saving on that bottle.

But something like a $45 bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc would cost $53.10 with gratuity, compared with $65.41 through the seven-bottle Premium package.

In that case, you’re better off buying the bottle individually.

So there really isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.

What I would do

If I was sailing for seven nights and knew I wanted wine with dinner, I’d look at the package list first.

I’d pick out the wines I actually like.

Then I’d compare those prices with the individual bottle prices.

If most of my choices were around $30–$35?

I’d skip the Classic package.

If I was choosing $40–$50 bottles?

I’d seriously consider Classic.

If I wanted some of the more expensive Premium wines and knew I’d drink seven bottles?

I’d definitely run the numbers on Premium.

And if Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva was on my list…

Well, at $71 at Palo versus $65.41 through the seven-bottle Premium package, I think we can safely say the numbers are starting to look pretty good. But I am definitely going to check out this theory next time and see if that bottle is even available.

But that’s the thing about Disney Cruise Line.

You have to do the math.

And sometimes the Disney package is a great deal.

Sometimes it isn’t.

And now you know how to tell the difference.
