In a move that has been anticipated since last week, Disney Cruise Lines has announced that all guests aged 12 and over will have to be fully vaccinated in order to board one of their ships.
This is to bring Disney Cruise ships into line with the new Bahamian government rule that prohibits cruise ships from docking in the Bahamas with any unvaccinated guests over the aged of 12 onboard.
This includes private islands so also covers Disney’s Castaway Cay which is leased from the Bahamian government.
This requirement comes into force on 3rd September 2021 and, at present, will remain until at least 1st November 2021. This can of course be extended at any time by the Bahamian government.
Disney Cruise Line Vaccination Requirements
What do you need to comply with the new Disney Cruise line vaccination requirements?
This applies to all Guests who are ages 12 and older. You must be fully vaccinated to board a Disney Cruise ship.
The approved vaccines include those by AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Moderna.
To be fully vaccinated in accordance with CDC guidelines:
- Guests who have received both doses of Moderna, Pfizer or AstraZeneca are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after the second dose has been administered.
- Guests who have received Johnson & Johnson are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving one dose.
- Guests with both one dose of Moderna and one dose of Pfizer are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after the second dose.
- Guests who have received one single dose of a vector vaccine (e.g. AstraZeneca) and one single dose of a mRNA vaccine (e.g. Pfizer, Moderna) are not considered fully vaccinated.
If you are age 12 and over and do not comply and have proof of being fully vaccinated you will not be allowed to board a Disney ship.
Disney Cruise Line Guests Under 12
What about guests under age 12 who at present are not able to get the vaccine?
Children under age 12 must provide proof of a negative lab-based COVID-19 PCR test taken between 5 days and 24 hours prior to the sail date by uploading their test results to the Safe Passage by Inspire website.
They will also be required to undergo a second COVID-19 PCR test administered by Inspire Diagnostics at the terminal prior to boarding.
Disney Cruise Cancellation Options
What if you are unable or unwilling to comply with the vaccination requirements?
If you are sailing on a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas, and that includes Castaway Cay, departing from September 3, 2021, to prior to November 1, 2021, you may modify your sail date or cancel their sailing without any Disney-imposed cancellation fees by contacting your travel agent by September 3, 2021.
However, there may be cancellation fees imposed by third-party suppliers, including airlines, as well as travel insurance, which are not refundable.
Any applicable refunds will be processed back to the original form of payment. Standard cancellation policies and terms and conditions apply for any cancellation or modification requests received on or after September 4, 2021
