Disney Cruise New Orleans 2020

Sharing is caring!

The Disney Cruise New Orleans  2020 sailings will be the first time that Disney has sailed from this home port. The news that there will be a Disney cruise leaving from New Orleans in 2020 was greeted very warmly.

So warmly that it became almost impossible to get a stateroom when the cruises were first released. However, don’t despair. We show you the best way to maximize your chances of getting on board if you haven’t already booked.

Disney Cruise New Orleans 2020

Here we have all the information that you need for your Disney cruise out of New Orleans. The Disney New Orleans cruises are starting just in time for Mardi Gras 2020.

First, we will look at the new itineraries for a Disney Cruise from New Orleans port.

Then we will give you a complete overview of the Disney Wonder cruise ship which will be sailing out of New Orleans.

It is a new adventure for Disney cruise lines to sail out of New Orleans. However, it is one that seems to be paying off for Disney very quickly. The response was huge.

The first New Orleans Disney cruises sold out on the first day they were released (as we mentioned you may still be able to secure a stateroom, so keep reading). There is still plenty of availability for the late 2020 and early 2021 New Orleans cruises.

Disney cruise lines have 5 round trip cruises sailing out of the port of New Orleans. There is also one repositioning cruise from New Orleans to San Diego which will sail through the Panama Canal.

Usually, Disney announces new sailing dates around 15 to 18 months ahead of time.

As these New Orleans sailings sold so quickly I would expect that Disney cruise lines will return to New Orleans for November 2020 and perhaps have the Christmas and New Year sailings from there.

This is only speculation, but I will update this as soon as the later 2020 New Orleans cruises are announced.

There are five different sailings to choose from as well as the New Orleans to San Diego via the Panama Canal sailing.

How To Book A Disney Cruise From New Orleans

Right now there are still some staterooms available for the early 2020 sailings, but they are limited to Guaranteed Staterooms.

Disney cruise line availability changes all the time. Plans change and guests cancel. This can happen at any time.

It is more likely that guests will cancel closer to the cruise. For all non-concierge Disney cruise line guests, you pay a refundable deposit. The deposit for concierge staterooms on Disney cruise lines is not refundable.

What this means is that some people pay the deposit thinking they may take the cruise, but then decide not to. Then there will be staterooms available.

The difficulty is timing this. You can’t sit refreshing the Disney cruise line booking page from now until 2020 hoping you get lucky.

The easiest way is to use a good travel agent. Not just any travel agent, but one who knows the Disney ships. We recommend Destinations in Florida

All of their services are free. They are Disney authorized travel agents and know what they are talking about. Click on the link below for a free quote and get their help in booking a Disney Cruise from New Orleans.

If you aren’t lucky enough to be able to book one of the early 2020 New Orleans cruises you should be on the lookout for a return to the port later in the year.

Disney Cruise Vacations

The most likely time that you will find availability for the Disney cruises to New Orleans is around the time that the final payments are needed on the cruises. This is the time that guests make up their mind as to whether or not they are sailing.

For the 4 night cruise, the full payment is required at least 75 days prior to sailing. The 6 and 7-night cruises are 90 days prior to sailing.

The Disney Panama Canal cruise from New Orleans is still showing availability at the moment and can be one of the best values of all the cruises on a per night basis.

Disney Wonder New Orleans Cruise Ship

The Disney Wonder is one of the Disney Classic ships. She is the smaller of the two current designs and can carry up to 2,700 passengers with 950 crew members.

The Disney Wonder was launched in 1999. She has undergone a number of dry docks and refurbishment in that time. So we think she looks as good as the day she was launched.

Disney Wonder Staterooms

Whenever you are booking a Disney cruise you need to make sure that you know all about the different choices of staterooms.

On the Disney Wonder, there are lots of different types of stateroom on offer. The lowest-priced tends to be the Inside Staterooms. These do not have a view of the outside world, but they are very well designed and comfortable.

The next category up is the Outside Staterooms on the Disney Wonder. These are usually higher priced than the Inside Staterooms and offer either one larger or two smaller porthole windows.

One of the most wanted of all the Disney cruise cabins is the verandah stateroom. If you truly want a room with a fabulous view you will pay a premium over the Inside and Outside staterooms. Many think the extra is worth it!

If you want even more pampering on a Disney cruise then opt for a Disney Wonder Concierge Stateroom. All magic comes at a price and the concierge staterooms are certainly not inexpensive. However, you do get some great perks such as the private sun deck and lounge.

Disney Wonder Restaurants

One of the great experiences on the Disney Wonder is, of course, the food. There are 3 Disney rotational dining restaurants that you will experience. For informal dining, there is the Cabanas Buffet as well as a number of other food options available on the pool deck.

For the grown-ups, there is adult-only dining on the Disney Wonder.

You really should try the Disney Palo Brunch or Dinner on your New Orleans cruise.

You are in for a treat on the Disney Wonder. One of the three Disney Wonder restaurants is Tiana’s Place. This fabulous restaurant has a New Orleans theme and is of course home to Princess Tiana.

In Tiana’s Place, you will meet Tiana and have the chance to hear her and the Crawfish Crooners perform. This is one of the best of the Disney rotational dining restaurants. Of course, it is particularly relevant for a New Orleans Disney cruise!

If you simply want a snack in your stateroom don’t forget to call Disney Cruise Room Service. Most of the menu is complimentary. Just remember to tip your server.

Here is our Complete Guide To Disney Wonder Restaurants.

Disney Wonder Pools

You will most likely spend a lot of your time either in or sitting at the side of the Disney pools. There are three pools onboard the Disney Wonder.

The Mickey Pool is designed for young children. This is also home to the water slide.

The Goofy Pool is designed as the family pool. This can get crowded at times, but it can be a great way to cool off and spend some time with the kids. You can also watch Disney movies on Funnel Vision which is right above the pool.

The Quiet Cove Pool is reserved just for adults. If you want a break from the younger ones or are sailing without kids, make sure you spend some time relaxing here.

Disney Wonder Entertainment

There is always something to entertain you on a Disney ship. A highlight is the Broadway Quality shows which are performed in the Walt Disney Theatre.

Disney’s Frozen is performed every cruise. The quality of the production is stunning. Make sure that you arrive early to get your seat as this is a popular show.

Another must-see is The Golden Mickey’s. This is a musical celebration of many of the Disney movies. Watch out for particular highlights including Tarzan, Mulan and the outstanding performance of music from The Lion King.

As well as the stage shows you should check out the Buena Vista Theater which is the ship’s movie theatre. Here you will see a variety of new Disney, Pixar and Marvel movies.

If you are lucky enough to be sailing when a new Disney movie is released there will be a premier at midnight.

There are lots of activities scheduled every day. These range from cooking demonstrations to towel folding lessons, learn to draw your favorites or take your chance on Bingo. You will never be short of something to do on a Disney cruise.

You will always have something to entertain you on your Disney Cruise New Orleans sailing.

Disney Cruise Kids Clubs

Disney Cruise lines have the best kids clubs at sea. You know that the kids are going to be well taken care of. Usually, they don’t want to leave the kids club!

The Disney Wonder has five different kids clubs.

Disney is unusual in that it has a nursery for children aged 6 months to 3 years. The It’s A Small World Nursery is the only one of the kid’s clubs which has a charge.

You do need to book time in advance. However, it is such a rare feature of a cruise line that they have childcare for the very young ones.

The next age group is for the Oceaneer Club. This is such a great space on the Disney Wonder. The little ones can join in Frozen Adventures and meet a digital Olaf.

The older ones are in Oceaneer Lab. Where else can you be part of the Marvel Super Hero Academy?

The space for the Oceaneer Club and Lab is connected by a walkway at the back of the kid’s clubs. The age range is 3 to 12.

The 11-year-olds have a choice of whether to stay in Oceaneer’s or go to The Edge. Other age policies are strictly enforced. Don’t expect your 12-year-old to be able to go to Vibe with their 15-year-old brother.

The Edge is for the tweens aged 11 to 14. This is a smaller space on Deck 9 where the video arcade used to be. It has a lot of activities and my youngest absolutely loves it there.

Teens need something a bit different. They can be one of the most difficult age group to please, but Disney manages it with Vibe. Decorated like a New York loft space this is a place where teens can do their own thing.

Disney Wonder For Adults

disneycruise adults

Lots of people get the idea that a Disney cruise is for kids. Sure, Disney cruise lines offer the best cruise experience for children and families. However, I think that it has a huge amount to offer adults.

I have sailed on many Disney cruises. Sometimes with children. Sometimes as just a couple. Sometimes as a single parent. All have been great experiences.

The Disney Wonder has a lot of adults-only spaces and activities. The Quiet Cove Pool is the focal point of the adult-only space on the Disney Wonder. It is a great place to spend some quiet time.

The Quiet Cove Pool has a couple of shaded jacuzzi at the side of the pool. Signals Bar is also at the side of the pool for all your adult beverages.

Cove Cafe is right next to Quiet Cove Pool. I always seem to spend a lot of time in this very relaxing space. It is wonderfully air-conditioned so can be a great place to escape the heat!

Cove Cafe serves coffee, wine, and cocktails. Also, look out for the glass cabinet at the end of the bar which has lots of cakes and pastries. These are complimentary – you just have to ask.

The Senses Spa is also a great place for adults. It includes the spa, the fitness center, and the Rainforest Room.

Whilst I am not that keen on spa services, I always spend time in the Disney Wonder Rainforest Room. It is an additional charge, but if you want peace and quiet this is the place.

You really need to try Palo at least once. The standard of the food is exceptional.

There are plenty of great bars on the Disney Wonder. The Disney ships are not party ships, but there are some nice spaces that adults can enjoy a beverage or two.

I particularly enjoy the Cadillac Bar on the Disney Wonder. This is often the place for the beverage tasting classes such as Mixology and Martini Tasting. These extra charge adult activities can be a lot of fun.

Disney Wonder New Orleans Cruises

Even though the Disney Wonder New Orleans cruises are new for 2020 and 2021 I am sure that they will be sailing out of this new homeport for a long time to come.

The Disney Wonder is an amazing ship and it is clear that there is a huge demand for the New Orleans Disney Cruises.

Those initial 2020 New Orleans Disney cruises were reputed to have sold out within an hour of being released. Of course, Disney will release some more!
