Disney Cruise Vancouver to San Diego – Is It For You?

Sharing is caring!

Are you thinking about booking a Disney Cruise from Vancouver to San Diego?

Disney Cruise Line has sailed this repositioning cruise for many years.

The usual pattern has been that Disney Wonder sails from San Diego in the Fall and Spring, and repositions from San Diego to Vancouver and back again.

This Pacific Coastal Disney Cruise is usually a 4-night sailing.

This pattern is changing for 2023 and there will only be one repositioning cruise from San Diego to Vancouver.

This is because the Disney Wonder is sailing to Australia and New Zealand in October 2023.

Disney Wonder will sail back to Vancouver on 3 March 2024 with a Hawaii repositioning cruise.

With the Wonder sailing in Australia, this means that Disney Magic will take over sailing from San Diego for October, November, and a short part of December 2023.

Disney Magic will reposition from Miami to San Diego on a Panama Canal Cruise on October 15, 2023. She will then have her home port as San Diego and sail on 3, 4, 5, and 7-night Baja Mexico and Mexican Riviera Cruises.

The Magic will then reposition once again from San Diego to Galveston on 3 December 2023.

What this means is that there will not be a Vancouver to San Diego Disney Cruise in 2023. The next one will be when Disney Wonder sails back to San Diego on 11 March 2024.

Should You Sail on a Disney Repositioning Cruise?

You have to think about whether or not this is the Disney cruise for you.

The Disney Repositioning Cruises are some of my favorites and I always book them when I can.

One big positive is that usually, they are on average a lower price per night. You often get a good value on a one-way cruise.

The disadvantage is that you start in one port and end in another.

This means that unless you live in or close to San Diego or Vancouver, your flight or ground travel expenses may add too much to the mix.

These Disney cruise line re-positioning cruises are really for the more flexible traveler. Many people prefer returning to the same port that they sailed out of.

However, if you do have flexibility then the Disney Cruise Vancouver to San Diego itinerary offers great value.

However, this is a very short repositioning cruise. The distance is not that great so you only spend 4 nights on board. You have to think about whether this is enough time for you.

We have to confess that we have a soft spot for the Disney Wonder. It was the first Disney ship that we sailed on and it holds a very special place in our heart.

Of course, it is easy to say that the newer, bigger Disney Fantasy and Dream are better ships.

However, although we love all the Disney ships we think that the Disney Wonder has the best crew. Disagree with us if you like, but for us, the Disney Wonder is always like coming home. There are so many Cast Members who have sailed with her for years and who we look forward to seeing when we sail again.

Bigger doesn’t always equal better. We love Disney Fantasy and Dream as well, but given the choice, the Disney Wonder usually wins for us.
