Frankenweenie is one of the best Tim Burton movies in quite some time. At first glance it may not seem like the idea would work. A black and white stop motion animation movie doesn’t leap out and strike many of us as an obvious choice for a successful box office venture. And all Tim Burton movies have Johnny Depp in them don’t they? But the idea for Frankenweenie somehow just works and Tim Burton has made a movie which not only looks amazing but which holds the audiences attention from beginning to end for this very touching story.
Take a look at this Frankenweenie movie trailer:
The story is about Victor Frankenstein a young boy who loves his pet dog Sparky. Tragedy strikes when Sparky is run over by a car and is killed. But Victor has an idea that he will bring his beloved dog back to life – all he needs is a little help with harnessing the power of science! Of course it proves difficult to keep his resurrected dog a secret from everyone and soon Victor’s classmates try and copy his rather unusual science project.
The Frankenweenie (Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy)
is now available. There are some interesting extra features on the Blu-ray DVD. In our house we always want to know the behind the scenes scoop so we particularly liked the Miniatures in Motion: Bringing Frankenweenie to Life feature. The all new animation short Captain Sparky v The Flying Sauces is certainly worth a look too.
Will non Tim Burton believers convert after seeing this movie? Probably not. He has a very distinctive style which just isn’t for everyone, but we loved the movie. Visually it is stunning and the story translates to all the family. Frankenweenie is certainly well worth a look.
