Surprise Disney Cruise New Ship Announcement for Japan

Today, Disney Cruise Line announced a new agreement with Oriental Land Co., Ltd. (OLC) that will bring year-round Disney cruise vacations to Japan! 

Under a recently signed agreement, OLC will operate a Disney-branded cruise business in Japan. A contract to build the ship has been signed with Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

She is expected to be completed in 2028 with a tentative sail date of early 2029.

The announcement confirmed that the new Disney ship will be based in Japan year-round.

She will be a fourth Triton Class ship and a sister ship to Disney Wish.

There is a huge expansion in the Disney fleet to come over the next few years.

With Disney Treasure set to launch in December 2025 Disney Adventure at a date to be announced in 2025 and Disney Destiny in 2026 this is an exciting time for Disney cruise fans!

With the new ship sailing out of Japan, this will take the number of Disney ships sailing to 9 by 2029.

The new ship will be constructed at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, with imaginative designs created by Walt Disney Imagineering.

All the Triton Class ships have been constructed at Meyer Werft shipyard. Disney Treasure is in the later stages of construction, and Disney Destiny is following not far behind.

This agreement marks the latest evolution in DCL’s relationship with Oriental Land Co., Ltd. as they own and operate the Toyko Disney Resort.

“I am sincerely proud that Disney and Oriental Land will be able to work together to create a world-class cruise business in Japan,” said Yumiko Takano, representative director, chairperson and CEO, Oriental Land. “Oriental Land will use their know how from the theme park business to continue pushing boundaries and provide family entertainment cruise experiences filled with inspiration and surprise.”

Based on the license agreement with the Disney Company, construction for the new, as yet un-named Triton Class ship will start in Japanese fiscal year 2025, with the objective to become operational from Japanese fiscal year 2028.

Approximately 330 billion yen has been earmarked for the project including construction and preparations. Based on today’s exchange rates that is $2,048,227.50
