Disney Cruise San Diego 2022 Complete Guide [Updated]

Sharing is caring!

The Disney Wonder returns to San Diego in early 2022 for more sailings to Baja Mexico. Here is the Ultimate Disney Cruise San Diego 2022 Guide.

The Disney Cruise San Diego 2022 sailings are a little different from previous years.

One of our favorite itineraries, the 7-night Mexica Riviera cruises are only offered once in 2022.

Gradually over the years, the number of 7-night sailings from San Diego has reduced.

It used to be that the majority of the sailings were 7 nights, but for now, we only have a single one-week-long sailing.

For those of us who prefer the 7-night San Diego sailings, you could of course combine back-to-back sailing to give you more nights.

This gives you a longer time on the Disney Wonder but isn’t ideal as the per night price tends to be higher if you book shorter cruises.

Another new feature for the Disney Cruise San Diego 2022 is a port stop in Catalina. This tiny Californian island is located just off the coast of Los Angeles and is well worth a visit.

Here we will talk about the Disney cruises sailing from San Diego in 2022 as well as give you some background about the fabulous Disney Wonder.

Disney Wonder Cruise 2022

The Disney Wonder is what is known as one of the Classic Disney ships. She was the second ship to be built and is the sister ship to Disney Magic.

The classic ships are the smallest in the Disney Cruise Ship fleet. They have a capacity for up to 2,713 passengers who are looked after by 950 crew members.

If you want to start with a great overview of the Disney Wonder experience this Virtual Tour is a great place to start.

The Disney Wonder has 877 staterooms. For help in choosing your stateroom go to Disney Cruise Ship Staterooms.

The Disney Wonder has 3 main dining restaurants. To see menus and reviews of these go to Disney Wonder Restaurants.

You can also get a great idea of what all the food is like on the Disney Cruises by reading this article which has a lot of pictures and menus for you to see.

There is plenty to appeal to all ages on a Disney Cruise. Many people think it is just for kids, but it really isn’t. Disney Cruise Lines designed their ships so that there is something for everyone to do.

This could be the perfect cruise for you if you are looking for a Cruise for Adults. This takes you on a tour of all the Disney Wonder Bars.

San Diego Disney Cruise 2022

The Disney Wonder Sailing out of San Diego

Right now only the early Spring 2022 and early Fall Disney San Diego cruises are available to be booked.

The last San Diego Disney Cruise for 2022 which is available right now is the October 3, 2022 sailing for 3 nights to Ensenada.

It isn’t known why the Disney Wonder schedule stops in early October 2022. The other 4 ships (remember that the Disney Wish will be sailing by then), all have cruises that are available up to the end of 2022.

The usual pattern would be that the Disney Wonder would reposition to Galveston and then New Orleans in early November.

The Disney Wonder will sail the following itineraries of 2, 4, and 5-night cruises from San Diego.

2 Night San Diego Baja Cruise

Disney Wonder Port of San Diego

  • Ensenada

Sailing on 3/18/22. This 2-night cruise is the Shortest Disney Cruise available.

Is a 2 night Disney Cruise worth it? We would say that any Disney Cruise is worth it! However, really do think about whether or not a 2-night cruise is the right one for you.

It can be a great idea if you have never sailed before and want to get a taste of what it is like.

However, you do need to be aware that you do not spend very much time on the ship and that the cost per night tends to be very high.

You will board on Friday at lunchtime, usually around noon at the very earliest.

You will spend one complete day on the ship, where you will be docked in Ensenada (our advice is definitely to stay on the ship as this is such a short cruise, and this is not the most compelling port stop).

You will barely have time to unpack as on Sunday morning you will be leaving the ship as you Disembark.

3 Night San Diego Disney Wonder Cruise

Port of Ensenada

There is only one 3 night sailing scheduled so far for 2022. The Disney Wonder will sail on 10/9/22 on a 3-night itinerary from San Diego.

4 Night San Diego Disney Wonder Cruise

Sailing on 3/30/22

This 4-night Disney Wonder itinerary is new for 2022 and includes the island of Catalina.

This is a port stop where tender boats are used. It is fun to explore the island – you can even do as the locals do and travel around in a golf cart. The island is small enough to see in a short space of time.

Sails on 4/13/22 and 4/17/22.

Later in the year, the Disney Wonder will sail the 4-night itinerary of 9/28/22

The port of Cabo San Lucas is simply beautiful. The famous arches dominate the view you will have when the Disney Wonder is anchored just a short distance away from the shore.

Again, you use tender boats, but these are really efficient and it doesn’t take much time to get from the ship to the hustle and bustle of Cabo San Lucas.

There are many excursions you can choose from in Cabo, or you can simply explore on your own. There are plenty of local bars and restaurants within easy reach. Or take a boat to the very beautiful Lovers Beach.

For later in 2022 there is one sailing on 9/23/22.

We have sailed many times on this itinerary and also the extended 7-night cruise which unfortunately isn’t offered in early 2022.

You can read about our Disney Cruise From San Diego to get a good idea of exactly what the experience on the Disney Wonder is like.

Sails on 4/21/22

The Disney Wonder sails from San Diego to Vancouver on a repositioning cruise so that she can move to her Canadian Homeport in readiness from the cruises to Alaska.

However, for 2022 the exciting news is that there will be two Disney Cruises to Hawaii.

These are some of the most sought-after of all of the Disney Cruise itineraries.

Historically, there really haven’t been that many Disney Cruises to Hawaii, and this made it particularly disappointing when they had to be canceled for 2020.

Both of the cruises are one way to Hawaii and back, rather than a round trip. This means you can spend some extra time in Hawaii either before or after the cruise.

Disney Port of San Diego Tips

Disney Wonder San Diego Cruise Port

San Diego is a beautiful port and the Cruise Terminal is right in the heart of the downtown area of the city. If you can, make sure to spend some time before or after your cruise in this wonderful city.

The San Diego Cruise port address is B Street Pier 1140 N Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101. It is very conveniently located just across the street from the Amtrak Train Station.

The San Diego port is only about 3 miles away from the International Airport. Too far to walk, but it is an easy car ride to the port. It will take less than 10 minutes unless the traffic is particularly bad!

Disney Wonder docked in San Diego Port

We think that if you are arriving at the San Diego airport and just want to get to the port, a ride-sharing service is a great idea.

An Uber will only cost around $10 to $12. Lyft will be slightly less at around $8. The most expensive option from the Airport to the Port will be a taxi which will cost in the region of $20.

There is public transport from the airport to the cruise port. This costs $2.25 per person each way.

The bus you need is the 992 which runs from the airport to downtown via the cruise port. Obviously, this is the most economical way, but really a ride-sharing service isn’t too much more if there are 3 or more guests in your party.

San Diego Cruise Port Hotels

If you want a complete guide to some great places to stay before or after your cruise we have this San Diego Cruise Port Guide for you.

However, here is a quick guide to our top picks of hotels to stay prior to your Disney Cruise in San Diego.

Wyndham San Diego Bayside

Wyndham San Diego Bayside
Wyndham San Diego Bayside

The Wyndham San Diego Bayside is a very popular choice of hotel for those going on a Disney Cruise. You really cannot get any closer to the port. It is right across the street from the B Street Pier.

You will be able to walk across the street to the Disney Wonder in the morning!

Also, there is nothing quite like the feeling of being able to watch the Disney Wonder sail into the port on the morning you are about to embark. If you get one of the rooms overlooking the bay you will be able to see the ship arrive right out of your hotel room window.

The Wyndham San Diego is an older hotel. However, it has been recently renovated. Rooms are a decent size and have either a King or two Doubles.

One slight downside is that it does not have its own restaurant. However. there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance and of course, you are about to have a huge Disney buffet lunch as soon as you get on the ship!

A Park N Go Packages is very popular. It starts at $284 a night. This includes parking for 7 days whilst you cruise. Note that if you do not opt for a cruise parking package, the standard parking rate is $32 per night.

This is pretty standard for the location as parking is expensive in downtown San Diego. If you are going to park at the Wyndham and then go on a cruise, definitely get the cruise parking package. Or leave the car at home!

Westin San Diego

The Westin San Diego is another one of our favorites. It has an amazing downtown location and is a short ride to the cruise port. If you want a high-quality standard of accommodation in a fabulous location you really can’t beat Westin San Diego.

The Westin San Diego
Westin Hotel San Diego Port

It is located within very easy walking distance of Little Italy and the Gaslamp Quarter. You are right next to San Diego Bay and a short ride from Coronado and Balboa Park.

Of course, all magic comes at a price and the Westin San Diego is a high-quality hotel. Room rates start at around $180 per night.

Note too that the Westin San Diego has a resort fee of $28 per night (are we the only ones who just wish hotels would get rid of resort fees and put them on your room rate). Parking is valet only and is a whopping $50 per night. Unfortunately, that is not a typo. Therefore we do not suggest staying here if you have a car.
