This is the question everyone is so desperate to get an answer on. When will the Disney Cruise ships start sailing again?
We are all anxiously awaiting that announcement that Disney Cruise line ships will start sailing again – but right now things are still unclear.
On March 9, 2021 during Bob Chapek’s address to shareholders he gave some indication of what to expect.
We are very anxious to get our Disney Cruise Line business back up and running. As you know, the cruise industry had been quite hit hard by COVID, and as of right now, we don’t have any definitive information in terms of when we will be able to re-open up our cruise lines.
Mr Chapek went on to indicate that there may be some limited Disney Cruise sailings from North America in the Fall of 2021
We are anticipating that with some luck and the increase in the number of vaccinations out there and the encouraging that we are seeing that maybe by this fall we might be able to have some limited operations of our cruise ships, but that’s all going to depend on the incidence of the virus and the vaccination of the general public. So, we look forward though when we do open up to using the very same disciplined guidelines we’ve used in our parks to safely reopen and use those same guidelines on the Disney Cruise Line. So we hope to have you as a guest on our ships when we reopen.
This really isn’t the news that we want to hear as we are hanging on to the hope that as Disney Cruise Line has only cancelled cruises up to the end of May 2021 for the Dream, Fantasy and Wonder. The Disney Magic cruises have been cancelled up to August 17, 2021.
Right now the next bookable cruise on each Disney ship is
- Disney Wonder Cruises next bookable September 17, 2021
- Disney Magic Cruises next bookable August 18, 2021
- Disney Dream Cruises next bookable June 4, 2021
- Disney Fantasy Cruises next bookable June 2, 2021

This statement seems to suggest that there will be limited occupancy on the Disney ships when sailing does begin. If that happens it will be interesting to see how it is decided who will keep their existing bookings and which will be cancelled. Perhaps they will prioritize existing Castaway Cay members.
Whatever is decided it is clear that no one at Disney has a clear answer of when the Disney Cruise Ships will be sailing again. There are certainly some good signs on the horizon – but until we get the definitive announcement from Disney Cruise Lines, anything else is just speculation.
We would usually have expected that the May 2022 Disney Cruise ships itineraries should be released by now. However, there is still no word on when this will be either as of today.
There was no comment at all about the Disney Wish. Whilst we know that the construction on the Disney Wish appears to be progressing well, we do not have many details about the design, and no details yet about the Disney Wish itineraries.
We can speculate that it is highly likely that the Disney Wish will sail out of Port Canaveral on the 3 and 4 night itineraries which are now on the Disney Dream schedule. However, we have no details of this as yet – we are only speculating.
