Imagine sailing on a Disney Mediterranean Cruise. This has to be on many bucket lists, but is a Disney Mediterranean Cruise the right choice for you and your family?
Disney Mediterranean Cruise
What Are The Disney Mediterranean Cruise Itineraries?
Here we will look at the Disney ships, the itineraries and the overall pros and cons of a Disney European cruise to the Med. Is it for you?
The first thing which you have to think about is where is the Disney ship actually sailing? There are many options for Mediterranean cruises out there with lots of different cruise lines.
We think that Disney is the very best, but first, you need to consider if the ship will be sailing to the places you want to see.
There are four Disney ships right now, with three more arriving soon.
The Disney Magic is the ship which currently sails in the Mediterranean each summer.
The Disney Magic was the first of the Disney cruise ships. She may be more than 20 years old now, but she is looking brand new.
Disney cruise lines always make sure that their ships are in excellent condition. The Disney Magic completed a two-week dry dock in 2018. She is looking better than ever.
Disney Cruise Line usually releases her new sailings for bookings about 16 to 18 months ahead of time. Right now all 2019 and 2020 sailings are available to book.
Usually, it is best to book as soon as you can. The prices usually only go up. Last-minute bargains are rare on Disney cruise lines.
Most of the Disney Mediterranean Cruise itineraries are round trips from Barcelona Spain.
There is one cruise from Barcelona to Rome and another on the return journey from Rome back to Barcelona.

Disney Mediterranean Cruise Tips
Why should you choose to sail on a Disney Mediterranean Cruise? Learn about the Disney Magic and what you can expect onboard.
Why Choose a Disney Mediterranean Cruise?
There are many reasons why a Disney cruise is a great choice. However, before you decide you really have to think about whether this is the cruise line for you.
We have spent months on Disney cruises and would always choose them first. However, Disney cruises are more expensive than some other cruise lines.
So why is Disney a great choice?
Here we will talk about Disney Magic as this is the only ship which cruises the Mediterranean right now. That may change in the future when the new ships are launched, but for the moment it is just the Classic Disney Magic which sails our of Europe.
Disney Cruise Staterooms
Most people think that the stateroom is a very important part of the cruise experience. Here Disney really does win out.
Disney cruise staterooms are not only well designed and luxurious, but they are also much larger than most other cruise staterooms.
There are four types of Disney Cruise stateroom for you to choose from. A lot will depend upon your budget. There can be a lot of difference in price between each of the category types.
An Inside Stateroom on a Disney cruise is a good choice if you are budget conscious. We have stayed in Inside Staterooms and been very happy with them.
There are 2 categories of Interior Stateroom on the Disney Magic. The smallest and usually the cheapest is the 184 square foot Interior Stateroom. If you are looking for a comfortable stateroom on a budget for 2 or 3 guests then go for this. Some do sleep 4, but we really think this is pushing it.
The next category up is the Deluxe Inside Stateroom. This is quite a big step up in terms of space. They have 214 square feet of space and feel quite a bit larger than the Standard Inside Staterooms. They do have the split bathroom so the toilet is separate from the bath and shower room.
If you want a window then an Outside Stateroom is for you. They are exactly the same as the Deluxe Inside Staterooms, but they have a window.
Our preference is always for a Disney Cruise Verandah Stateroom. There is something so special about sitting on your own balcony watching your port arrival or just watching the ocean sail by. Of course, they are the most expensive of the non-concierge Disney staterooms.
The Disney Wonder and Magic have a unique category. The Navigators Verandah is an enclosed balcony which is very popular with some guests.
We have never stayed in a Navigators Verandah stateroom, but many people love them. They are usually a bit cheaper than the outside Verandah category.
If you want to blow the budget then of course Concierge is the way to go. You can choose from Deluxe Balcony staterooms which sleep up to 5, one and two-bedroom suites.
You can even stay in the Walt Disney or the Roy Disney suite. Be prepared to pay a premium though and book early.
Concierge is very very popular. However, the perks are extremely nice!
Disney Cruise Entertainment
We really think that no one can rival Disney cruise lines when it comes to entertainment. You will be treated to Broadway-quality shows which would cost you a fortune on land.
It isn’t just the stage shows which make Disney cruise lines different. They also have a movie theater which shows first-run and popular Disney movies.
As Disney now seems to own so many movies they have a huge backlist which they can show.
If there is a newly released movie you can even see a premiere at midnight on the day of release.
One of our best experiences on a Disney cruise was watching a late-night showing of Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Just one of those great family memories which we have from Disney cruise lines.
Disney Characters on a Disney Cruise
The chance to meet Disney characters on the cruise is just so much better than at the parks. No standing in line for hours in the baking heat of Orlando or Los Angeles.
You just look at your Disney Cruise Navigator and see which characters you want to meet every day.
Even better than this is the chance to bump into characters in the corridor!
You never quite know when you might meet Belle or Peter Pan on their way to another part of the ship. These occasional impromptu meetings are one of the highlights.
Disney Cruise Lines Looks After The Adults
We understand. Not everyone wants to meet Peter Pan in the corridor. It’s all good. A Disney cruise is not for you if you loathe the Mouse, but it really can be for everyone who is just open to a great cruise experience.
Disney cruise lines is designed for every member of the family. There is plenty to do on a Disney cruise for adults.
The Disney Wonder has a large amount of space which is just dedicated to the over 18s on board. If you have kids on board they will be happy in the kids club, so for once you can have some me time and escape to the adult spaces on the Disney Magic.
If you want a great dining experience then we particularly recommend the Disney Palo Brunch on the Disney Magic.
You have to try the Disney Rainforest Room. This is one of our very favorite places to just escape the stresses of every day when you are sailing on the Disney Wonder.
Disney Mediterranean Cruise For Kids
Imagine the great experience of showing your children some of the great sights of Europe. You can do it in such a manageable way, no matter how old your kids are if you sail on a Disney cruise.
You only have to unpack your suitcase once and almost every day you will wake up to a new cruise port. Travel is great for kids and creating wonderful family memories.
The Kids Clubs on Disney Cruises are the best at sea. We have sailed on many Disney cruises with our children at various ages.
They have always been happy to spend at least some time in the Kids Clubs. Sometimes we have barely seen them.
In our experience the older that they get the more time they want to spend in the Disney Kids Clubs. Getting them out of there has been a problem as they enjoy it so much.
Disney Cruise Dining
We think that one of the best experiences on all of the Disney cruise is the dining experiences. Most of the food is good, some of it is great.
Of course, as we have sailed for months on a Disney cruise there have been some dishes that are not as great as others. However, in general, we think the standard of the food on Disney cruises is very good.
We have written a Guide To Disney Cruise Food
The Disney Magic has three very different restaurants. You will experience them all on your Disney Mediterranean Cruise.
Every Disney ship has Animators Palate.
This just has to be seen to be believed. Watch the dining room transformed whilst you dine. The interactive experience is not something you will have on any other cruise line.
Lumiere’s on the Disney Magic is a tribute to the beloved Beauty and the Beast character. It is a unique upscale dining experience.
The new favorite has to be Rapunzel’s Royal Table. After the success of Tiana’s Place on the Disney Wonder, the Imagineers wanted a Princess themed restaurant for the Disney Magic. They created Rapunzel’s Royal Table which has a Tangled theme.
What really makes the Disney Cruise dining experience outstanding is your wait staff. Disney Cruise Rotational Dining is a unique concept.
Each Disney ship has three main dining rooms and you rotate between them on your cruise. What is particularly special is that your waiters rotate with you.
This guarantees that you get to see all of the amazing Disney cruise restaurants on your cruise and your waiters get to know how best to make you happy.
The fact that your waiters come with you is a huge part of the Disney cruise experience. Over the years we have made some great friendships with the wait staff. They really all seem to go the extra mile.
They will know your drinks preferences by the second day, cut up your kids food, listen to your food likes and dislikes, recommend the best menu items, and just do anything they can to make your experience very special.
We have to confess we have cruised on other cruise lines -the dining service just isn’t the same on any other cruise line we have experienced.
The Disney Cruise Experience
This is one of those things which you really have to experience to understand what we are saying. The level of service is just better than other cruise lines.
The quality of the staterooms, the public spaces, the entertainment, and the dining is just above other cruise lines which we have experienced.
You don’t have to love Disney to enjoy a Disney Mediterranean cruise. We think that the Mouse will win you over.
