One very important thing to know before you book a Disney Cruise is exactly what is included.
There are many food options that are included with your Disney Cruise fare.
Although there are upgraded dining experiences available, it is very possible to sail on a Disney cruise and not pay anything extra for food.
There are more than enough included food choices on a Disney cruise to keep everyone happy without having to pay any extra!
What Food is Included on a Disney Cruise?
All your breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks are included. Food is available from one of the following sources onboard.
- Food in the main dining rooms
- Food in the buffet
- Room Service
- Counter Service
There are also some food and dining experience that do cost extra.
- Adult Only Restaurants
- Some Bar Food
- Some Extra Charge Deserts and Ice Creams (such as Dole Whip)
Disney Cruise Line Does Dining Differently
Disney does main dining a bit differently from every other cruise line.
On each Disney ship, you will find three main dining restaurants with different themes.
On all Disney cruises (except the rare 2-night sailings) each guest will visit all the dining rooms on the ship at least once.
This is called Rotational Dining.
Another unique feature of Rotational Dining is that your serving team will “rotate” with you to each restaurant. This means that you will have the same servers every night.
This gives your serving team the chance to get to know your dining preferences so that you can have an even better experience.
There are two different seatings each night for the main dining room. Each seating time is designed so that you can have dinner and also have the opportunity to see the show in the Walt Disney Theatre.
Disney Cruise Dining Times – What You Need to Know
What are the Main Dining Rooms on Each Ship?
Each of the five Disney ships has three main dining restaurants.
These are also known as Rotational Dining Restaurants.
Each restaurant will be open for dinner and guests will find out from the Navigators App where they are dining that evening.
One of the restaurants will be open for breakfast and lunch if you want an alternative to the buffet.

Disney Cruise Special Dietary Needs
I have sailed many times on Disney Cruise Lines, and for a large proportion of that time, I have traveled with someone who has special dietary needs.
I have always found DCL to be exceptionally good at catering to special diets.
You will always find gluten-free, vegetarian, no-sugar-added, dairy-free, and lighter-note offerings on Disney’s table-service restaurant menus.
See more details on how to inform Disney of your special dietary requests before you board.
When you visit the buffet or quick service restaurant inform a Cast Member of your dietary requirements and they will assist you.
Dining in the Buffet on a Disney Cruise
Each of the Disney ships has a buffet.
On Disney Magic, Wonder, Dream, and Fantasy this is called Cabanas.
On Disney Wish, it is Marceline Market.
The buffet serves breakfast and dinner. Unlike many other cruise ships, DCL does not have a dinner buffet.
Room Service
Room service is available 24 hours a day on a Disney Cruise.
Make sure you order at least once from the Room Service Menu.
Always remember that whilst room service is free, it is customary to tip the server who brings you food. An amount of at least $1 is considered reasonable. You can do this in cash or by putting the money on your account on the check that your server will have for you.

Food on Castaway Cay
All the food is included when you visit Disneys Private Island, Castaway Cay.
The food is barbecue style – and you can choose from three different locations.
Cookies One is located closest to the ship on the Family Beach and tends to be less busy than Cookies Two which is further in but also on the Family Beach.
They both serve the same menu.
There are plenty of places in the shade to sit down and eat.
There is also a Serenity Bay BBQ – if you can go here then this really is the best choice, even though it is the furthest away from the ship.
It’s the least crowded and sometimes has dishes you won’t find at the other locations.
All of the Castaway Cay BBQ venues serve the same menu (although you may get lucky at Serenity Bay).
What Food is Not Included on a Disney Cruise?
Whilst most food is included on a Disney cruise, and you really can very easily sail with DCL without spending any extra money at all on food, there are some options that have an extra cost.
As we have seen, there are some Casual Dining options that have an extra charge. If you want a specialty ice cream or a Dole Whip these are not included.
Want some popcorn or candy before a movie or show? All the ships have a concession stand where you can buy snacks for an extra charge.
The main area where food is not included is in the adult-only restaurants.
Adult Dining on the Disney Ships
There are a number of restaurants on each Disney ship that are only open to those 18 and over. There is an extra charge for each and they have to be booked ahead of time.
All of the Disney ships have the restaurant Palo.
On Disney Wish it is known as Palo Steakhouse and has a slightly different menu to the other ships.
